Voidrun

Best enemy designs. Sooo cool

I really want to like voidrun, but I simply cannot. It's jam packed with cool and genuinely innovative ideas, but is marred by the single worst pacing of any game I've played. A core mechanic of voidrun is managing the stock of orbs you have on hand, so that you do not run out while battling enemies. However, you need to get more orbs than you start with to defeat enemies. How do you get more? By creating circles over empty ground hoping to uncover some orb ups. And you do this for the first half of your time in a level, EVERY LEVEL! In addition, the speed of the game is directly tied to your screen's refresh rate, and if you're stuck with a particularly slow or fast rr, then it becomes way too slow to be fun, or way too fast to be playable. Voidrun has some very interesting and fun ideas, like a "downgrade" upgrade system, and unique combat, but it's just too jank to be fun.

Great game. Very satisfying and addictive game mechanic.
