The game is kinda fun, the combat can be pretty annoying. The checks seem to be set too high -- I have passed precisely one check, using up a lot of low or single use item. The thing I learned was basically don't do checks - checks being so hard to pass just makes me disinclined to explore and try things. Hoping they'll make a tuning pass based on data, and it'll be fun to play in a few weeks time, but right now I wouldn't recommend it.
I think I'm too old for this game. I feel like 10 year old me would be so into this.
The visual style of this game is fantastic, and there are a lot of interesting ideas here. The "flying around" + "D&D style narration when you get off your ship" (akin to Between the Stars) works well for the vibe. The "navigating through space" node by node using supplies is an interesting mechanic. The momentum of the ship means you have to learn how to pilot properly, and the use of the boost for both speed and manoeuvrability gives it a further depth. And I love the Cosmic Horror combined with Space Galleons. I do feel like, as a small team, they've produced something interesting and a lot of fun, but something that could definitely do with expanding. Perhaps more open and less linear spaces to explore? Maybe more side missions to flesh out the lore of the world? More NPCs to meet, more places to go, more options for ship customization (both in looks and in loadout?). I do definitely recommend this, even though it's short, because it's an interesting introduction to this world they're building and worth playing.
It's the closest I'll get to living out my Treasure Planet fantasies. But as a game, I dunno. I like the devs, I like the ideas, I like the vibes, but the execution doesn't fit, I guess.
Void Sails is an adventure game that blends elements of exploration, strategy, and linear storytelling. You take command of a spaceship crew struggling to survive in a dangerous void, where every decision shapes the outcome of your journey. What I liked about the game: 1) Atmosphere and style - the game creates a dark yet captivating feeling. The art direction and sound design perfectly convey tension and mystery. 2) Game concept - limited resources and unpredictable dangers maintain a certain level of tension throughout. 3) Interesting artifacts - they're numerous, diverse, and directly impact the course of events. What could be improved: 1) Lack of explanations - characters and game lore aren't fully developed, leaving many questions unanswered. 2) Lack of variety - there are relatively few planets, and they tend to resemble one another. Personal impressions: This game is good for those who enjoy leisurely adventures with RPG elements. Considering it's the developers' first project, Void Sails deserves attention - it might well become a stepping stone to something greater in the future.
its a good first game. i hope they can build on it in the future or in a sequel!
Short review after completing a run: an interesting game primarily focused on exploration severly lacking in other departments. Pros: - A very cool setting where you travel with your skyship to different island and places (medieval, alien ruins and so on) - Choices which impact your run and endings - A DD style roll to determine the outcome of events and if you did sidemissions or took a certain path on main mission you get different relics which can turn the roll into your favour - Multiple runs to get different choices and endings Cons: - Very short game (beat it in under 3 hours) - Very lackluster combat with only 2 weapons and only 1 ship to choose - Not many enemies, lack of varied soundtrack Being a very small indie game studio it shows the lack of resources put into combat, soundtrack and game lenght, however if you like exploration and events with multiple choices and endings i can recommend this game.
Tells a decent story that I enjoyed. About 2.5 hours long, but I had fun
Overhyped as hell. Game dev said it was like "treasure planet" which is one of my favourite Disney films...and he lied. It's so boring and nothing remotely like treasure planet!!! Give it a HARD pass for at least 5 years until this "game" actually turns semi decent.
I really enjoyed this game! Streamed it over on my twitch account, honestly didn't want to stop playing. The story was captivating on every efforts, definitely missed some things that will involve: another play-through!! But all in due time! I highly recommend this game, has so much potential! possibly many more endings possible, I only got one ending but still very enjoyable! the artwork and direction this game took was really nice! Thank you guys and Keymailer for giving me the opportunity to play and review this game.
