The game keeps glitching. Anytime something needs to process, like spending tech points, the wheel just keeps spinning, and it says the transaction is processing. Two times now the game has taken my tech points (total of 190,000 points) and not awarded the skill that I spent them on due to the glitch. This was hours worth of play wasted. It's extremely frustrating to the point that I no longer want to play the game because it keeps doing it.
I don’t know if I can recommend this game — I don’t think I can even continue playing it. I understand that this game is old, but it just won’t stop autosaving every few seconds. Worse, the autosave sometimes locks up and doesn’t save at all, causing me to lose progress constantly. This bug has been driving me crazy. I’ve tried verifying the files, removing “read-only” permissions, and troubleshooting in every way I can think of, but nothing has changed. I’ve also put a small amount of money into the game to speed things up, nothing excessive — but after 18+ hours, I’m done. Seeing that constant autosave icon in the top-right corner makes me anxious, because I’m just hoping it disappears so I know the last 20 minutes actually saved. I said earlier that I’d quit if this doesn’t get fixed, but given how old the game is — and how many other players report the same issue — I don’t see that happening. Because of this one incredibly frustrating problem, I don’t see myself ever finishing the game. I can’t recommend this game in its current state. Don’t waste your time, and don’t spend money on it. It’s not worth the frustration.

Cute game... very buggy. There are large problems with saving. You will lose hours of play at times - and some of the items you used will stay used even though the time shift has meant you (theoretically) never used them.
Buggy. Won't save when needed. Many lost hours.
I just find this game so cute. I used to play as a small child, never understood it. But now I am all over this! Love it
If you really like puzzle and collecting games this is for you. It takes days to complete some of the puzzles. Mostly due to the need to craft items to solve the puzzles. While you can play and not give the dev/publishers any money, I would advise paying for the family/Lemur/Heron package. When you get to the point that the earthquakes and cracks start showing up the Lemur will ALWAYS successfully retrieve something. Your villagers will at best be 33% successful. Additionally you have to craft ropes for villagers. The Lemur does not need them. The materials to craft ropes show up only every 8 hours. And even then only enough to make 2 ropes, if you even find them all. That means you can send a villager into a crack once every 4 hours averaged out. When you are online the cracks can show up every 10 minutes. That means you will miss most of the good stuff. Of note, the family/Lemur/Heron package does not give you a family. Instead you receive 300 "Lava Stones", the in game currency. It costs 250 Lava Stones to buy the family. You can instead choose whether to buy the family or just keep the 5 starting villagers early on. For initial villagers choose one child and 4 adults. Try to pick one with some experience in each research, farming, building and healing. Gathering can only be learned by dragging a villager to where you want them to collect (gather) items. Probably the best mix to start is one male, three females and one child age maybe around 5-10 (male or female as you choose). Children are required to fetch certain items, like mushrooms which are food. And the child gains gathering experience while getting the mushrooms. And after you repair the crafting hut they can collect fireflies too. Keep in mind if your female villager has a baby that female villager in unavailable for anything besides caring for the baby for 2 years in game (about 4 hours). So do not let your only farmer have a child. You could starve the village to death. On the subject of "breeding" as the game calls it, women cannot have a child at age 50 or more. Do not get yourself into a position of all females being over 50 with no children. Your village will die off unless you buy a new family (see above). There are actually several games in this series though Steam only carries 2 or 3. And there is wiki site dedicated to the games if you need clues or help. Facebook groups too. Overall a decent game, especially for being free. I recommend it for casual game fans.
⭐️⭐️
It's alright
I'm personally biased to A New Home since it's an old classic with a nostalgic feel to it. I feel that it has everything that this game lacks. It's fun to play if you have the time to grind it, but it can easily be a money grab to progress. The progress unfortunately is extremely slow if you complete the game naturally. If you like slow progress games this will be for you. https://store.steampowered.com/app/16100/Virtual_Villagers_A_New_Home/
Every time I play this game, some glitch ends up happening that is unfixable and requires me to completely restart. The first time I had gotten all the way to chapter 2, a villager got frozen at the crafting table and despite trying for 3 days I could not get them to build a tool that I needed to beat the next puzzle. I couldn't drag any other villagers over to do it because the one stuck villager was frozen there. The second time, even though I had the fully gathered gold and metal at the anvil, I kept getting a message saying something else was required (which I know it wasn't, because I had already beat the statue puzzle the first time around). A third time, I kept trying to get a villager to gather rhubarb (I knew it was ready because a message popped up saying it was ready when I clicked on the garden) but even though they would go through the gathering motions, the rhubarb would never actually get harvested. I got to the point where I watched several walkthrough videos just to make sure I was not missing something, and it was definitely just a glitch in the game each time. I really enjoyed this game,d & I am extremely disappointed that I now would have to restart again and put who knows how many more hours to just redo what I've already done, just because of a glitch. Not going to be playing this anymore and will not be recommending it to others. I honestly wish I could just get a refund.
at one point it's all good, funny glitches start happening that I think will affect my game play. i let it go. the icing on the cake was making a combination (concrete) using limestone and clay. i use both of those ( i only have 1 limestone) and the cement is no where to be seen. i used my materials, did it correctly, and cement is nowhere to be seen. it essentially stole from me lol i've been playing virtual villagers since i was 8 but ♥♥♥♥ origins. ruined the virtual villagers game as a whole. this game steals your hard work from you, just don't bother.
