Virtual Rogue is a top-down action roguelike shooter set in a computer controlled by a cruel and merciless User. You play as a text document file named “Note” who, after being accidentally created by the User, is thrown into the Recycle Bin.

Fun and quirky game! You go around shooting stuff, I suppose you could say in the style of Smash/Super Smash TV, kill stuff, find exit, next level. Plenty of power ups and excellent music akin to the likes of NES era/80s synth? Well, the point is, the music is great. Oh, plus there's a doge monster in the game. Yeah, that doge, so hip, wow, many bytes.
Man this game is fun as hell but could use a layer or two of polish. I'd highly reccomend for people that enjoy top down shooters in the vein of SmashTV and Total Carnage.
Interface review: • First few seconds in the main menu: "I can't use a mouse? Not even WASD keys? ENTER is not working?" Needs more user-friendliness. • First few seconds in the game settings menu: "Wtf is Angling? No descriptions?" Well at least the character does have one. • Warning messages (such as those that appear when picking up upgrades) disappear quickly. • No panels for texts? It hurts my eyes. • Some texts go through the edge of the screen, making it impossible to be read. Gameplay review: • Pressed Tab and the game glitched and froze in a white screen. Happened twice. Stopped playing after the second one. • The limit in shooting at certain directions is kind of weird for a shooter game. I mean, we aren't in the 90's anymore. The angled shot concept is interesting, but I still disagree with having to shoot at 4 directions only. Design review: • Main menu seems to give a sad feeling despite the cheery music in the background. • Some sprites look cute. Some... Look weird. • Some sprites blend in badly with the tileset. • Music is okay, but it loops and after a few good loops it's kinda boring to listen to.
Virtual Rogue: Or
Warrior needs RAM, badly!

Rogue-like and permadeath, sweet.
Strange choice of virtual computer theme, but it works.
Interesting decission to use directional attacks rather than mouse aim.
Discontinued on the store page.
Doesn't play currently on my computer.
No support.
Awesome Music opens up, opening menu looks very generic, No press enter or space bar to select, think it should say that somewhere most people think enter to start, and it was space. Game is sort of like Smash TV without Diagnol shooting, I kind of wish it did have diagnol shooting. Character is ok, No backstory tho. That could of gave the game some more insight. Tutorial was Decent, but the items just seemed to small. The Idea of moving around in computer chips was a good one, and the attacking files etc make the game kind of fun for a nerd like myself. I found the Gameplay fun for the most part, the hit detection kinda sucks tho, takes forever to try to hit something, shouldnt be this hard. The Art is decent, I like the Blue Screen of death ending, but cant lie it scared the crap out of me for a second lol. I do like that it has a save feature and multiple save slots.
i dont really like the mechanics and control of the game. it is no comparison to something like enter the gungeon or binding of isaac. you never really know when you shoot.
Many great easter eggs can be found in the game. Even thought i was a beta tester long before the game was released, I still often play this game, and im still not sick of the game because this is a rogue-like game. Don't give up because u feel like the game is too hard! You probably just need to do some angled projectiles and keep moving. I have created a gameplay video on youtube, feel free to help yourselves to find out how to beat an particularly hard enemy. Great game, great music, great graphics. I highly recommend this game to anyone who is reading this.
Better than expected
Got this game for free in exchange for being a beta tester AND a promise that after the game is launched, the dev will give me another key so a friend can get to play it as well. Guess what? It's been half a year since game was launched the the promised extra key was not given. I messaged the devs before and only got 1 reply from them saying they will give. Come on, how hard is it to give a key? Now, the game itself : Binding Of Isaac clone with not so great graphics and less items to play with. It's a short game and can be finished in 30 minutes or so. I'm not even a hardcore gamer but I got the highest score. It's hard but not that hard. I feel BOI is still harder but has a better gameplay. My complaint is that there are not that many item drops, and on the last stage, there's this stupid item that just replaces Note's head with some avatar. Any succeeding item spawns will be the same item because all other items spawned already. So you get stuck with the same item and every time you get it, the avatar just gets bigger and bigger until you can't see Note's body anymore except the avatar. Just plain stupid. Sure these are procedurally-generated levels but no replay value in them. Achievements are ok but with the game getting boring the more you play it, I doubt you'll want to achieve all of them. One thing I like is that if you don't have enough bytes to open the door and you try to still open the door a couple of times, then the door becomes a monster that would kill you in a second especially if you don't have much power-ups. I don't recommend this game for any price except for free.
