This is a tactical RPG with Galgame elements. As the owner of the village, which will be attacked by all kinds of monsters as the story expands, you'll need to recruit cute adventurers, use magic, and build walls defend it. Remember that those cute girls may need ‘comforting’ after doing hard work.

Requires HEAVY level grinding, still I liked it. Bonus dungeon? Never.
Yes.
QUICK FACTS
Type: City builder / tactical RPG Developer: Tamamo Studio Publisher: Paradise Project Price: €9,99 Est. playtime: 15-20 hours Censorship: yes (patch available online)
THE GAME
MECHANICS Village of Adventurers 2 is both a city builder and a tactical RPG. Your job is to expand a small village into a thriving city, using the proceeds you gain from adventuring. The game alternates between two phases: a building phase, where you give orders to your citizens and improve your city; and an adventuring phase, where you guide adventurers through side-scrolling dungeons. In both phases, you first get the opportunity to plan your actions, after which resource gathering and combat unfolds in real-time. There are about a dozen different types of building to construct, each of which provides certain benefits to your town. To build them, you require resources and money, which you collect by having your citizens harvest them and/or adventuring. Adventuring also yields items, equipment and materials that can be sold, magically enhanced and/or used by your adventurers to enhance their capabilities. As leader of the village, you don’t go adventuring yourself. Instead, you assist the adventurers by casting spells from a distance. At the start of each new building phase, the game checks whether you’ve accomplished any building or dungeon-clearing objectives. If that is the case, the story progresses and new buildings and/or spells get unlocked. In addition, you get to watch one or more cut scenes made out of static CG’s. Controls: mostly mouse STORY You play as Kay, an adolescent war orphan. At the start of the game, you’ve just inherited the role of village head from your parents, who died during a civil war. Soon after, the regent of the country appoints princess Claris, the heir to the throne, as a public official in your village. Pushed by your sister and encouraged by Claris, you decide to turn the village into a home base for adventurers. Meanwhile, a passing hero helps you unlock the power of ‘holy spirit emissary’ by sleeping with you. As emissary, you gain considerable magical abilities, which (naturally) are dependent on your sexual activity and prowess. Motivated by the hero, you set out to grow your village and your powers by um, ‘helping’ as many women as possible. The story is completely linear; there are no choices to make or different paths to follow. If you fail story-related challenges, you simply get the opportunity to try again next round. QUALITY For an indy game, VoA2 is quite alright. While the mechanics aren’t too complicated, the gameplay is interesting enough to keep you entertained, especially at higher difficulty levels. The main challenge is to expand your city and skills quickly enough to deal with roaming monsters in the countryside. Once you’ve managed that, you can build, level and explore at your leasure. For those who want to test their skills, the game also features a time attack mode. The story is OK: not too bad, but built entirely out of galgame clichés and therefore mostly predicatable. Worth noting: almost any (female) dialogue is fully voice-acted (in Japanese). The music is also well done; simple but catchy and fitting. The game does have its flaws, most notably the counterintuitive user interface. Expect to spend quite some time figuring out the very basics of the game. What doesn’t help either is that publisher Paradise Project (as usual) botched up the English translation. This also caused a few crash bugs that occur during story cut scenes. They can only be circumvented by temporarily switching the language to Chinese before the cut scenes start. So save often. Finally, some users (including myself) have reported sluggish game performance during side-scrolling combat, making it difficult to effectively use your spells. This, too, may be a side-effect of poor localization by the publisher. While not game-breaking, it takes away a good deal of the fun during combat – and in my case, any inclination to replay the game.
THE GOODS
SUBJECT The lewd content in VoA2 is mainly about Kay having (vanilla) sex with various female NPC’s, in various positions. Nearly all interactions are consensual and enjoyed by both parties. There are a few lolita characters involved, which VoA2 justifies by
making them non-human (beastman / robotic)
. Not a great fan of that trick myself, but to each his own. Keywords:
straight, vanilla, lolita, monster, tentacles
CONTENT 24 static CG’s spread out over multiple scenes, supported by Japanese voice acting. ACCESS Nearly all scenes are unlocked automatically as part of the story progression. Afterwards, you can re-watch them in a gallery in the main menu. Censorship: VoA2 is censored by default. There is a patch available online, but not at the publisher’s site – you’ll have to google it and decide for yourself if you trust the sources QUALITY The quality of the artwork is pretty good: well drawn at a fairly high resolution. There isn’t much variety, though: while each image and girl is unique, most of them share a similar look and feel.
VERRO’S VERDICT
Village of Adventurers 2 is a decent indy game that is worth your time if you’re city building enthusiast looking for some light-hearted, lewd-flavored fun. However, due do its poor user interface, performance and translation, it’s certainly not worth its full price. So try to get it during a sale. Oh, and don’t buy it for the story and/or the CG’s alone: there’s not much of it and you’ll find nothing you haven’t seen before. [i]Looking for fairly priced adult games with good gameplay?
