Debutante was a general term used to describe a girl coming of age, entering womanhood and society as an adult. The word usually relates to women of aristocratic or upper-class background. In the United Kingdom, the tradition of young women being presented at court was upheld for nearly two hundred years until Queen Elizabeth II abolished it.
The debut and the season following it was the most important time for both the debutante and her family. If the woman was lucky and very hardworking, she would not only land a husband in her first season but secure a spot in the high society for herself and her prospective daughter. If she failed, she might have become an outcast and spend the rest of her life pretty much secluded...

Heyho! This is Jumack, the developer behind the Victorian Debutante. I am a novice single developer, passionate about games ever since I learnt how to use a computer mouse. It was before I learnt how to turn that machine on! Victorian Debutante is my official first project and it stems from the sheer love for games and the Victorian Era.
I'm planning on developing the game with time, here's a little list of features I'll be adding:
localisations in different languages,
full dubbing in localised languages,
animations and environment sounds for stories pictures,
in-game wiki for more and less known facts about the era

A short, but sweet visual novel about a young debutante. I enjoyed it tremendously and replayed it quite a few times! The art is beautiful and the music really set the atmosphere for the gameplay. I do wish, however, that there were more endings, hehe. For example, I wish we could have married Christopher since there were many scenes with him. There was also this strange, unknown man I hoped to have seen more of, and while playing I began to wonder if Beth was an option for romance as well? Like, Beth's presence brings you immense comfort and the feeling of stability and you know you can tell her everything. What you like even more is staying close and silent, however. It's not something you have with anyone else. You look at her and adore her unobvious beauty. She looks at you, too, and raises her brows with a smile. Um, hello?! But anyways, can I just take a moment to gush over the gorgeous writing this game has? I genuinely loved playing this visual novel and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an immersive experience in the Victorian era.
i found this game on a Friday and it made my weekend! It's a well-written visual novel with good length, replayability, multiple endings, interesting paths to choose for the debutante if that's what you choose, nice music, and nice art. It's not long or too short and I think I'll try for some other endings. It was pretty fun to pretend to be a Victorian Debutante for half an hour. I would say it's about two to three hours long if you play all the routes and my computer isn't working so it looks like I played for a really long time but it's a really fun, nice short and sweet game of course. Overall, I liked it and look forward to other games from this developer.
A beautifully written visual novel where you can determine the future of this young woman raised in a high-class family. I love how this game dwells on the pressure female faces in the way they dress, act, attend, show emotions and their work occupation during the Victorian time period. The use of the colour to convey richness, royalty and the place this game is set in is a wonderful choice making it stand out and appealing to the eyes. It is so aesthetically pleasing to look at in fact that I sometimes wonder what old movies would look like if they were done with the same colour palette instead of black and white. Just a dumb hypothesis.
i found the demo for this game on newgrounds early one morning and hit it off with the game developer after leaving my review there. she was so kind as to offer the steam code for me to read more into ending i'd gotten. love how the story teaches you how to exhibit poise through its narrative. i relate so much to the protagonist and empathize deeply with these characters in such a way to deepen my role in the gameplay. the visuals in this game are unique, simplistic and gorgeous. clearly a lot of care has been put in to give the player a sense of environment, but not so much to distract from the story. (from an artistic standpoint, i really appreciate the usage of values here. i think the color purple was such a good choice!) in a weird way this game has reminded me of the few beauties of the internet. of how anyone can put themselves out into the open and find small connections with individuals similar to oneself and henceforth reigniting a passion for something as simple as text-based adventure games. i will be telling my friends about this piece and have them play it as well; i'm curious which endings they'll get >:3 four outta five stars
