Vertiginous Golf

A steampunk golfing game that's very charming, but in later levels the holes become extremely complex forcing you to rely on a little scouting bird that you have. Unfortunately, if the scouting bird gets deployed while in collision with the environment, it will fly off to the boundaries of the map becoming unusable. This makes the later, more complex maps, impossible to beat without trial and error rather than being able to look at the course as intended. This made the game too frustrating to complete.

There are better mini golf games on steam but I still enjoyed this one.

I like minigolf, I like steampunk, I don't mind if there's some narrative in a game that doesn't need one, but this isn't just a bad minigolf game done badly (see other reviews for details), it has some of the worst stories and voice acting(?) ever.

It's unique but unfortunately not in a good way. It could have been great with more polish, but as is, it feels clunky and the hummingbird is a nuisance.

The best dystopian steam punk mini golf adventure game I ever played

Tried this for the first time maybe 10 years after getting it for free. Must admit, I didn't hate it. It plays like an over-the-top mini golf game, which is probably the intent, and the expectation. It also ran on Linux without any hiccups. But paying 1200 yen for this in 2025? Nah, probably not. Maybe if you really, really like mini golf.

This game astounds me. It enthralls me. It deeply confuses. Is this because it's a good game? Not at all. The gameplay is terrible, and brings shame to the very idea of a golf game. The writing is nonsense a la carte. No individual element of the plot, story, or setting quite makes sense even in isolation, and gets worse when you consider other elements of the plot. You control a robotic hummingbird in order to change the camera angle. Each hole is interrupted several times by floating radios used to distribute the propaganda of a proto-fascist monarchy. This monarchy is propped up by the existence of wireless electricity called syntricity, which is responsible for the word vertiginous being in the title since it's necessary to power the floating golf courses in the sky. The poor live on the deeply polluted surface, serving as industrial wage-slaves for the gentry. Golf through syntricity induced astral projection serves as the opiate of the masses. The only feasible way for the working class to overthrow the monarchy is to seize control of the propaganda system implemented within the golf games. The game sometimes acts as if the player is playing a significant role in this, but really you're just playing golf in an electroshock massage chair while other people conduct the plot in the background, verbosely and with the kind of intellectual self-confidence that could only stem from an author who has never reread their own work. This game is an enigma. I hate it, yet find it morbidly fascinating. It deeply confuses me. The narrative is so obtuse, unwieldy, and self-indulgent that it comes across as if it were the core of the game. For the sane, the existence of this game alone disproves the philosophical view of solipsism. No reasonable person could ever dream up this mad hallucination.
