How did the communist regime in Czechoslovakia fall? This hidden-object game tells the story of ordinary people taking part in the peaceful demonstrations that changed the course of history. Big crowds hide those, who want to tell you why they took to the streets.

As a Czech person myself, going through this game brought tears to my eyes. It felt so personal to be going through the individual experiences that reflect the very real and painful history of Czechoslovakia. I learned a lot from this game... thank you for bringing this into existence as we are in desperate need of educating ourselves and the people around us in these trying times. „Truth and love must prevail over lies and hatred.“ - Václav Havel
I always love learning about other countries' history.
Velvet 89 is a Where's Wally/Waldo? search for hidden objects game with a focus on education. Very fitting that a Czech indie studio would tackle such a historic topic. This game is FREE and definitely worth checking out. It is quite short and has a hint function for maximum casual play. Even grandma is able to play this. I only knew surface level stuff about Czechoslovakia and Velvet Revolution, but this game made me research more about this fascinating topic. If only the communists left like the "supposed heroes" when they first arrived and kicked out the nazis, but no they just had to stay and replace one evil with another. No wonder tensions still exist between Eastern European countries and Post-USSR countries. Ironic how Russia moved away from communism, yet affected countries like Czechoslovakia and China had to deal with that dystopian ideology. Czechoslovakia is proof that a country can transcend and become a happy and peaceful place. Meanwhile China and North Korea prove what communist ENDGAME looks like. Just horrible. Charles Games does not disappoint with the conscientious and educational games.

🗣️"And the city does nothing. They tell us to stay inside and keep the windows shut." 🗣️"People are tired and want change." 🗣️"Every year it gets worse and worse." 🗣️"They're firing our friends from schools and arresting people who just want the regime to respect human rights." 🗣️"I am afraid. I hope they'll let us go when they see our hands are bare." 🗣️"Stop the violence!"
Super cool cia-like eye-in-the-sky surveillance gamebook; look for the pesky protesters in the crowds, identify them, and then read a blurb or two of what's on their mind. Plays out like a Where's Waldo book, but with more Waldos to search for in every protest scenario.
What a fantastic master class in including history into a game! Both visually and creatively! As many others have said this is an I-Spy and Where's Waldo/Wally type of game where you explore through the crowd to find various folks with various perspectives and lived experiences related to the Velvet Revolution; that led to the fall of Czechoslovakia. I myself had not known the proper history of this revolution so this was deeply moving and educational for me! I think the nuance here is that looking for each person and item in the crowd highlights the ways in which each person matters in these types of situations when folks are fighting against injustice in their country. We learn what each individuals thoughts are and each item gives us context clues of where we are. As outsiders we often will see the big crowds on international news but not understand or hear what brought people to join these movement and moments in history. This game really highlights the power of the collective and how we can all find common purpose and empathy in a shared cause. And how people really can create mass change! Each individual matters! Thank you for such a wonderful educational experience!
hm takový no počteníčko o listopadu 89 no. hledačka docela vpoho až na samotný závěr v Ostravě u toho TV vozu. ten předmět byla největší vydrbávka kvůli které tohle nedoporučuji. to mě mega vytočilo :D jinak jako takový nemastný, neslaný.
