One of the best standing shooters, build and deck randomization roguelite experience make the game really fun! I finished with 3 stars all missions and all Mutation in just 16 hours, it's not very long, but still much better quality than most games.

VAR: Exterminate is a virtual reality action shooter developed and published by VAR LIVE International Ltd. Set in a city devastated by a zombie outbreak, the game throws players into a relentless battle for survival where quick reflexes, efficient resource management, and smart tactical decisions are essential. Built exclusively for VR, it emphasizes immersion by placing players directly in the middle of chaotic firefights against swarms of undead enemies. Rather than presenting a straightforward wave shooter, the game incorporates roguelite progression that encourages experimentation and gives each playthrough its own distinct identity. Although it remains an Early Access title, the available content demonstrates a solid foundation that blends arcade-style action with meaningful progression systems. The heart of the experience lies in its combat and upgrade mechanics. Each run allows players to unlock randomly selected abilities that gradually shape a unique build, making every attempt feel different from the last. Some upgrades improve raw firepower, while others strengthen survivability or provide tactical advantages that become increasingly valuable as enemy numbers grow. Defeating zombies rewards resources that can be invested in weapons, equipment, and other enhancements, creating a satisfying progression loop that keeps players motivated to push through increasingly difficult encounters. The randomized skill selection adds welcome unpredictability, encouraging players to adapt instead of relying on a single dominant strategy throughout every session. The VR implementation contributes significantly to the game's appeal. Facing zombies at close range creates an intensity that is difficult to replicate outside virtual reality, with every encounter demanding constant awareness of the surrounding environment. Weapons feel responsive, and the combination of visual effects, environmental detail, and atmospheric sound helps sell the illusion of fighting through a city on the verge of collapse. The dark environments, unsettling audio cues, and relentless enemy assaults maintain a constant sense of pressure, making even familiar stages feel tense as larger groups of undead begin to overwhelm the player. The presentation successfully captures the atmosphere of a desperate last stand without sacrificing the fast-paced nature of its arcade-inspired gameplay. Replayability is another notable strength. The game offers multiple stages spread across different chapters, along with a selection of firearms, equipment, armor, drones, and numerous upgrade abilities that can be combined in countless ways. Players who enjoy refining strategies and improving their performance will appreciate experimenting with different loadouts while climbing the online leaderboards. However, the title also shows the limitations of its unfinished status. While the existing gameplay systems remain entertaining, the promised expansion of maps, content, and features has yet to fully materialize, and long-term players may eventually notice repetition once they have experienced the available stages and upgrade combinations. Continued development could have significantly expanded its longevity, but the current version still delivers a respectable amount of content for fans of VR action games. The game's exclusive focus on virtual reality naturally limits its audience, but players with compatible hardware will find an experience designed specifically to take advantage of the medium. Enemy encounters become more engaging because movement, aiming, and situational awareness are all integral to survival. At the same time, a greater variety of enemy behaviors, additional mission objectives, and more environmental interaction would have elevated the experience even further. Despite these shortcomings, the core gameplay remains enjoyable thanks to responsive shooting mechanics, rewarding progression, and the excitement generated by its roguelite systems. Overall, VAR: Exterminate succeeds as an entertaining VR zombie shooter that combines satisfying gunplay with meaningful progression and replayable roguelite mechanics. Its immersive combat, customizable builds, and tense atmosphere create an engaging survival experience that rewards repeated play, even if its Early Access status leaves some unrealized potential. Players looking for an action-focused VR title centered on battling relentless zombie hordes will find plenty to enjoy, provided they understand that the game feels more like a strong foundation than a fully realized product. Despite its unfinished nature, it offers enough polished gameplay to stand out among VR survival shooters. Rating: 7/10
