"Valley of Dragons" is a student project from a student who apparently failed the course, but made a commitment to publish the game anyway... and failed that too, because they abandoned this about 4 years ago. And left it on Steam in an incompleted, busted state, to pollute Steam I guess. More pollution for genuine indie developers to have to compete with for visibility.
Anyway if you take this seriously as a game, which nobody should (or did, check out the peak player count), it's a VR non-game where you're in a field with a ripoff purple dragon that might even encourage Dreamworks to send a DMCA, and all you really do is treat the thing like a glorified Tamagochi. I'd rather have the Tamogochi, if I wanted something small and useless.
This features fairly low quality low poly 3D visuals which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and it's clear the developers behind this didn't understand that.
It's free for now, but the developer intends to charge for this if it ever leaves Early Access... but considering the poor public reception, it's likely this will not be one of the 25% of games that ever gets finished and leaves Early Access.
The poor quality of this game is also reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the game all-time peak player count was only ONE player. That's right, only one person ever played this at a time. When I played this for the purposes of reviewing it, I equalled the peak player count for the game. OUCH.
The only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it.
Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected.Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it?
Nope. This isn't worth downloading. While this didn't cost me any money up front, I still feel ripped off.
