About

On the outskirts of a small village stands a massive tree whose canopy disappears far above the clouds. While grandiose on the outside, its interior houses the humble Mortem Post, which receives and delivers letters from those who have passed on. Deciding to break protocol to lend a helping wing, Rain, a flighty little courier takes a skittish girl by the name of Mila on an adventure through the inner workings of the post office. Together, they search for a letter containing the last words of someone who seemingly never existed.

One part visual novel, one part puzzle adventure! Follow Rain and Mila through the mysterious Mortem Post as they meet with various couriers working throughout the tree and make use of Rain's trusty stamp collection to overcome a myriad of obstacles that stand in their way!
Often during your adventure, you'll need to take advantage of stamps to tie words together in intuitive ways to help Rain and Mila out of various sticky situations. No two puzzles are exactly the same -- from choose-your-own-adventure style outcomes to stealth missions, you'll see just how versatile Rain's stamps can really be!

cv: Beth Pierce
A rookie courier at Mortem Post and granddaughter to the postmaster. As a no-stamp rank, she's still learning the basics, such as handling front desk duties or sorting ground-level mail.
While she loves her job, she's prone to bending the rules that come with it, often causing trouble for herself when her mentor inevitably finds out.

cv: Mel Valentine
A young seaborn girl from the village of Vitae. She's been a regular at Mortem Post recently, coming in every day for the past three weeks asking for a letter she's expecting from her dearest friend who has recently passed on.
A bit of a crybaby, her tears upon hearing that her letter still has yet to arrive are what move Rain to take her on an adventure through the back of the post office.

cv: William Maloy
Though a courier by name, in actuality Mizore's duties to the post mostly involve the upkeep of the tree's exterior. Trimming branches, ensuring it's continued health and so on. While the tree stretches upwards forever, they never stray higher than the clouds, lest the task become impossible. They have a friendly, laid-back demeanor, finding much amusement in Rain's day-to-day ordeals. Arguably too much, as they end up playing along with just about anything she readies as an excuse and, as a result, lets her get away with pretty much everything.

cv: Elissa Park
A Three-Stamp ranked courier and Rain's Big Sis (no relation.) Unlike her fellow galekind, Neve is firmly planted to the ground thanks to her missing wing. She's found a comfortable position in the post office that takes advantage of this. Staying out of the sky allows her to get to know the other villagers in a way those who stay airborne do not, and as such, she's able to deliver letters that arrive at the post office with vague recipients such as "the kind regular who always visited my shop" or "the woman who delivered flowers on my birthday."

cv: Vyn Vox
A courier who has achieved the rank of Five-Stamp. With her prestige comes no small amount of additional responsibilities, including the training of new staff. Her newest trainee, Rain, has caused Caile nigh endless grief. The young galekind's reckless disregard for the rules of the post clashes constantly with Caile's ceaseless chase for perfection. Rain's repeated patterns of defiance have only doubled Caile's efforts, however, and it's not uncommon for her to hover around Rain for much of the day if her duties do not pull her elsewhere.
*Sees the game, trailer and screenshots.* "This is gonna make me cry isn't it?" *Plays to the end.* "AAAAAAAAAAAAA YES IT DID! ;W;"
This story is down right beautiful. Rain is a new blorbo for my bird brain, Neve is cool and a great found family rep. Caile's position in the office is frankly tragic though I won't go into details cause spoilers. The connection Rain has with Mila is so sweet and silly too. As for the end though,
Few years back, I lost a dear feline companion to old age who I had for a very very long time. It left a her shaped hole in my chest. So when the twist at the end was revealed that Dandy was Mila's cat, and thus unable to send a package with even context clues. I was instantly reminded of my cat and was sobbing into a pillow. The meow at the end made me sob more ;w; /pos.
Point is, this game is beautiful. Though it's audio balancing and some images are a little unpolished. This game is utterly beautiful.
perfect ! everything about this game is just perfect ! i wasn't expecting it would make me cry extremely hard but it did very short but also very wholesome and sweet, i can't recommend it enough
If a 3 hour long book can get you emotionally invested and want to see more of the characters, I'd say thats an amazing book. In the same way, this game is amazing
A short and beautifull game, perfect for when you feel down and need a little lift up
Lovely little game with beautiful artwork, soundtrack and writing. Had a lot of happy tears <3 A courier's work is never done :)
Upwards, Rain! The Post Office of Farewells, developed and published by Studio Élan, is a compact yet emotionally resonant visual novel that blends heartfelt storytelling with light interactive elements. Known for crafting character-driven narratives, Studio Élan once again leans into themes of love, loss, and personal growth, presenting a story that feels intimate without being small in scope. Set within a fantastical postal service housed inside a towering tree, the game invites players into a world where letters from the departed are sorted, processed, and delivered—messages that carry unfinished feelings and final words. The story follows Rain, an energetic but somewhat impulsive courier working for the Mortem Post, a mysterious organization tasked with handling letters written by the deceased. When a timid village girl named Mila repeatedly visits the post office in hopes of receiving a letter from her late friend, Rain makes the spontaneous decision to help her search for the missing message. What begins as a simple act of kindness evolves into a journey upward through the many layers of the immense tree, both literally and metaphorically. Their growing bond becomes the emotional center of the narrative, grounding the story’s fantastical elements in relatable feelings of grief and longing. Narratively, the game thrives on quiet, character-focused moments. Conversations between Rain and Mila feel natural and layered, gradually revealing their fears, hopes, and vulnerabilities. The script balances whimsy and sincerity, allowing humor to coexist with heavier themes. Rather than overwhelming players with melodrama, the story unfolds gently, inviting reflection instead of demanding it. The central question—whether some messages are meant to be delivered, or perhaps left unsent—anchors the experience in a thoughtful meditation on closure and remembrance. While primarily a visual novel, Upwards, Rain! incorporates light puzzle mechanics that complement the storytelling. Rain’s collection of magical stamps becomes a tool for solving environmental challenges and narrative obstacles. These puzzles are not designed to frustrate but to enhance immersion, encouraging players to think creatively about how the world functions. The mechanics feel integrated rather than appended, reinforcing the theme of communication and transformation through symbolic gameplay interactions. They provide just enough interactivity to break up the reading segments while keeping the focus firmly on the characters. The visual presentation contributes significantly to the game’s atmosphere. Character sprites are expressive and detailed, capturing subtle emotional shifts through posture and facial expression. Backgrounds carry a soft, storybook aesthetic that enhances the dreamlike quality of the setting. The interior of the colossal tree feels both magical and lived-in, with layered architecture that reflects the organization’s complexity. Complementing the art is a carefully composed soundtrack that underscores key emotional beats without overpowering them. Voice acting further elevates pivotal scenes, adding warmth and nuance to the characters’ interactions. One of the defining qualities of Upwards, Rain! is its brevity. The story can be completed in a few hours, yet it feels complete and deliberate rather than rushed. Its focused structure prevents narrative bloat and ensures that each scene serves a purpose. Additional unlockables, such as supplemental lore entries and side stories, offer players the opportunity to explore the world more deeply after completing the main arc. This layered content adds replay value without diluting the impact of the core narrative. The game’s linear storytelling may not appeal to players seeking branching paths or complex decision trees, as the emphasis remains on delivering a curated emotional journey. Similarly, the puzzle elements are intentionally gentle, designed to support pacing rather than provide intense challenge. For those who appreciate narrative depth and character intimacy over mechanical complexity, however, this design choice is a strength rather than a limitation. Ultimately, Upwards, Rain! The Post Office of Farewells succeeds as a poignant exploration of connection and closure. Through its imaginative setting and tender character development, it captures the quiet power of words left behind and the courage required to confront loss. Studio Élan crafts an experience that lingers not because of spectacle, but because of sincerity. It is a story about delivering messages across impossible boundaries—between worlds, between hearts—and finding meaning in the act of reaching out. Rating: 9/10
A short but memorable experience imbued with a lot of thought and care. It's only a couple of hours long, plus some extra content to read through after the main story that delves deeper into the worldbuilding and also serves as an epilogue of sorts. Definitely reminded me of the iyashikei subgenre, though beware that loss is very central to this story. I have yet to check the website for some additional stuff but I'm sure even then I'll be wishing for more time with these characters. I feel such warmth in my heart when thinking about this game, I sincerely hope this story will get found and enjoyed by even more people in the future -`♡´-
I honestly wasn't expecting much, but this game completely stole my heart. It all started like this... Me: "Oh, this looks like a cute little visual novel." The game: "How about we make you emotionally attached to everyone instead?" Me: "...that's rude." 😭❤️ The characters are so lovable, the friendships feel genuine, and before I knew it, I was smiling one minute and tearing up the next. This game had no business making me this emotional! The art is absolutely adorable, the soundtrack is beautiful, and the voice acting is fantastic. Everything comes together perfectly and makes every emotional moment hit even harder. Came for the cute art. Stayed for the friendship. Left with tears, a full heart, and absolutely no regrets. Highly recommended if you're looking for a wholesome visual novel that'll make you laugh, smile, and maybe cry a little too. ❤️
