Up All Night

I'm a big fan of horror movies, horror games, horror books and pretty much anything that is designed to try and scare you.. Most of the time I'm left with a slight chuckle but never truly scared (this game isn't going to scare me or you) except the Ring,, for some reason that long hair girl and her jump scares were too much.. It didn't help that the first time I watched the movie someone actually called me..... like right in the middle of the movie, seriously right when one of the characters was getting a call after watching the tape.. Soooooo.. anyway.. If you like scary stuff, this game might tickle your fancy.. Story - you play as Nick, a recent high school graduate, a man suffering from numerous mental ailments after having a "grisly tragedy" befall him.. His mother decided it would be a great idea to take him to a remote cabin in the woods, in order to let his emotions have a chance to rejuvenate or get jiggy wit it.. (sorry this isn't Cherry Kiss games, no getting jiggy in this visual novel) The story is rather simplistic in nature, and takes about 20 minutes to read through for a single time.. Gameplay - normal visual novel fare, you scroll through various pages, reading the words, making choices (about 15 in this game) and then you get an ending based upon your choices.. Nothing ground breaking, but still fun to read.. at least until you get tired of reading everything around the 2nd playthrough.. Pro's Interesting storyline Interesting double twist Well written (which is nice in a steam visual novel) Very simplistic in it's approach (could be a negative, as it's rather short) Con's Not enough graphic content (the story goes there, but the artwork doesn't) Could be a big longer (yeah I know I said it was a pro, but also a con) Price tag for content delivered. (6.99 for about 20 minutes) Had the game weirdly crash at a random point and force me to rollback.. Recommendation The price tag of 6.99 is kind of steep for the content delivered, BUT, the content which is delivered is pretty good.. If you're going into it expecting a visual novel with lots of gory graphics (considering the content) you'll be disappointed, the most you get is a blood stains on various objects.. Which doesn't really replace the fact of seeing what is being talked about.. You're a horror visual novel so act like it and show me the goods.. You don't watch Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th to only hear about the kills off screen do you? With that said I'd recommend buying the visual novel, while it has some issues as far as length, and lack of graphical content, it is still a good read, and the twist or twists, almost makes it worth the price of admission.. If 6.99 is too much, wait for a sale, but do yourself a favor if you like horror stories, this might be a good bite sized one to grab..
