Unto the Aurora

El juego es básicamente apuntar hacia el norte y ya. No se cual era la intención o que trataba de contarnos con este juego. Ambientalmente esta bien, pero no tiene mucho mas trasfondo, o al menos no lo he entendido vaya. Además, el diario donde se apuntan todo lo que pasa durante el viaje se me ha bugeado y no me dejaba verlo.

If you've ever wanted to just sail out to sea and get lost this is the game for you!

DO recommend! Clocking in at just an hour long, Unto the Aurora is a fantastic journey, tinged with the supernatural while never quite revealing its hand. You spend (almost) the entire game aboard a small boat, working against the weather in an attempt to steer into an aurora, to flee the witchhunters, and to find a safe community. It's scary, in an intentionally subdued kind of way, and it's MEDITATIVE too. Once you get into the rhythm of the game, the time will go by.

A short, but haunting experience that stuck with me for a while after. I'd rather not spoil the turns the game takes in my review, but I will say that each chapter sinks you further into a journey that becomes actively hostile that you must push through for. An easy recommendation for anything looking for an equally harsh yet beautiful game. Also you can fish. My only suggestions would be to include a 'push off' function for the boat when close to terrain, make it more clear when the boat is moving, and include a 'escape to menu' function. I was stuck twice against invisible walls and turning the boat slowly, then being unsure if I was actually unstuck or if the waves were just moving was a problem in Level 2. I ended up having to restart the game to be able to properly unstuck myself and restart the chapter. I don't see this is a major problem with the game and more of quality of life suggestions. As a side note for this review -- is there a place where the game's music and more are uploaded to? A Bandcamp or similar service? I very much enjoyed it and would like to support where I can.

I love this interaction model enough that I could see myself happily working through a game two or three times its length, but I also appreciate the developer's keen sense of pacing, and far be it from me to complain about a short game. Every part of Unto the Aurora, from the art style to its soundtrack, successfully conveys the story's weary, unsettling, but ultimately hopeful tone, and what little writing there is effectively establishes a rich inner world for the protagonist, which only grows richer the further they get from their pursuers and into the wild grey yonder. A fantastic, evocative little story.

Great wee game with a spooky vibe and a fun sailing mechanic!

What an amazing experience for $5!! I especially loved the music! IT WAS GREAT!
