Pretty decent game as a project by student developers. Personally would have preferred a twin stick shooter approach to the keyboard controls as trying to aim left and right by holding LMB or RMB was a bit awkward especially since movement is WASD with Spacebar to shoot. Also noticed that the dialogue in general was a lot longer and drawn out than I would have expected (i.e. if you count the total LMB clicks I did in the game more was spent on dialogue than aiming weapons!). Granted, you can "skip" it, but I like to go through the story at least once first. Then again, I suppose just because the overall gameplay loop is fairly simple, doesn't mean the story and dialogue has to be short. One suggestion I'd provide is to lower the screen real estate being taken up by the information in the bottom left (ship health/shields, etc). Typically that wouldn't matter as much except it's actually taking up space in the primary game area instead of a border frame or panel. Alternatively, some of the information could be placed in a small meter/icon around the player's ship to make it still readily viewable but take up a lot less of the screen.
Overall the ship mechanics and enemies were pretty good for this type of game and is certainly challenging to play.
"Unstable Star" is a poor but apparently deliberate runner-up for one of the worst games on Steam, this Itchio reject is a really badly made 2.5D retro shoot 'em up with a vague elementary school tier sci-fi narrative premise and some of the worse gameplay on Steam. What do you do in the game? You play the worst Galaga ripoff to insult gamers. As Jaughn (pronounced "John" or "blurgth this game sucks I just threw up"). Itch has one job, and it's not a hard job, but they failed again... to keep amateur stuff in their weird hugbox where everyone claps and says "Good job!!!" at every bit of amateur drivel (which nobody actually plays) and away from gamers. Unfortunately this has leaked out onto Steam platforms and now gamers have to put up with yet another bit of poorly made amateur shovelware. The graphics here are particularly awful, low poly garbage and even worse backdrops, so bad that it actually stands out as one of the worst looking games on Steam. Quite an accomplishment. It's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. Let's talk about pricing and the actual value this has for gamers. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. Even as a free game, this couldn't find an audience. With a peak of only 2 players, it's clear the Steam community took one look and walked away. They literally couldn't pay people to spend time playing this. This "free" game won't count toward your game collection count on your profile. With that in mind, is it something you should still download? This is a "nope". While it won't necessarily cost you money, the time and hard drive space it requires could be better invested in one of the many higher quality alternatives on Steam.
This is by far the best game I have ever played.
