This is one of few games without guns and violence. The worlds are really beatiful and fun to explore. Game controls are easy to use even if I play only with keyboard and mouse.
Unpetrified – Echoes of Nature is a beautifully crafted, calming experience that feels like stepping into a living painting. The world is wonderfully designed, filled with warm colors and countless tiny details that invite you to slow down and look closer. Its sound design adds an extra layer of serenity, wrapping every moment in wonderful ambience. The many cute little animals bring charm and life to every area you explore. Throughout the whole journey, the game kept a quiet smile on my face.
TLDR: probably a pass, ui is obtuse for those who like to collect/complete games, puzzles are just okay with clunky feedback from your companion. Updated review: Playing this game can be frustrating, the character can get stuck in the environment while rolling. Can get softlocked while using environmental objects and achievements/100%ing seems completely unfun. Finding all animals in an area is obtuse with no meaningful ui to tell you how many are left. I think the butterfly compass is supposed to help with this but it doesn’t. The compass are butterflies that surround you and point to… things? Plants? The animals your looking for? It just points at everything and i stopped using it pretty much immediately. The fox is clumsy with poor user feedback, you have one button to control him. When you tell him to sit your character slaps their knee and points trlling him to stay. When you press it again telling him to come theres no feedback except the fox starts moving eventually. It doesnt feel good to Perform puzzles with him. Its okay, but not great. Lastly the puzzles are pretty much just activate switches and sometimes have the fox sit on them. Maybe more variety after 5 hours but im not sure. My original impression is below, 2 mistakes: 1) the bunny achievement requires more than 3 collected (i think) theres 2 at a house with 5 holes and getting 3 more aka having 5/5 isnt all of them(?) bad unintuitive design 2) the door is a backtracking area that wasnt used in my playthru, just weird level design. Original review 2 hours in: Unfortunately Atm I’d say this game is a pass. On steam deck they have a custom graphics present that runs okay if you can put up with big fps fluctuations while traversing. Thankfully nothing requires twitch reflexes. I love how cute it is, but I’ve gotten stuck in the environment twice. An achievement didnt pop for the bunnies in the forest (probably because I got stuck and had to reload). And currently I’m not sure if I’m stuck on my save file or not as a door appears to not open in the grasslands. Alot of patience is required with this game in its current state. Im not sure if the save is broken, if i have to fully quit and restart the game or if i missed something. Thats not a good sign not knowing if its my fault or the game.
I didnt expect this to be so fun. Its not loud or flashy, but the world is packed with little secrets. I found a rabbit sitting near the water and it made my day. The Fox is adorable and actually helpful, which is rare. Its the kind of game you play when you just want to chill and smile. Definitely a hidden gem.
8/10 Very cozy and beautiful game! You play as the Golem in a world with no humans, though there are signs of humanity. The natural world is vibrant and thriving! Something seems off though... Explore by solving puzzles, speculate about the lore via murals, roll around at high speeds to break stuff, and collect flowers that are displayed on the Golem's back. Not all the puzzles are obvious, so you'll need to bring your patience and your explorer's hat. Best played with a controller, in my opinion. There's next to no reading involved; everything except tutorial popups are communicated with camera movements. There is no combat. Autosaves occur at fixed points (like when you pick up a flower). You CAN pet the fox. And a bunch of other things, technically, though those aren't button prompts. You can also sit on benches and just enjoy the views; the camera automatically focuses on nearby points of interest. I backed this on Kickstarter and participated in testing! It's come a long way. There are indeed still some minor bugs, but I trust the devs to fix them as they are made aware of them. If you find a bug, go to the Discord and let them know! The game is fully playable in its current state, you just might need to go back to title screen and re-enter if you get trapped doing something silly. Ultimately, great game, especially for relaxation and mental challenge.
Initially, I wanted to give this game an 8+/10. The plot, cuteness, and mechanics are all really well thought out, and the puzzle design strikes a great balance between simplicity and satisfaction. However, the visual glitches and small bugs do start to pile up the further you progress, and they can begin to chip away at the immersion and flow of the world. As the game stands right now, I’m giving it a 7/10. But honestly, if (or when) these issues are fixed, I truly believe Unpetrified: Echoes of Nature could climb much higher. It’s already a wonderful foundation for something truly special, one that any cozy game lover should keep on their radar. A cute game that was somehow both exactly what I was expecting, and not at all what I was expecting. The game consists of two main play elements, one being exploration and the other being puzzle solving. In some cases both puzzle solving and exploration occur at the same time, and in other cases they are their own sections of game-play. For people who want some helpful gameplay tips check out the last paragraph of this review, the second-to-last paragraph is the review summary for the tldr folks! For the most part I really enjoyed this game! It's a game that shows its small development team roots on it's sleeve and doesn't try to be more or less than it needs to be. I only had three cases of glitches, one of which was fixed with a quick restart (...I rolled through the floor of the map) and the other two of which let me 'cheat' (by which I mean skip parts of puzzles lol). Some of the puzzles were a little mind-numbing but I found myself able to (for the most part) strong arm my way through them all. For achievement purposes I wish there was a way to save/play each area on it's own but the game is short enough it should be easy enough to replay. Well...as long as you aren't a time-strapped college student like me :) Each region feels extremely different, but that has less to do with a difference in gameplay and more to do with the varying sizes and portions of puzzle solving versus exploration. I was very happy with the overall amount of content, but I do wish there was more regularity to the gameplay segments as that could have helped with wiping out some of the fatigue I felt being stuck in the sections that are either exploration or puzzle solving. You also have to manually walk/roll back if you miss any content. There is no map and no teleportation features so if you don't like spending five minutes to roll your way back through the map to find the one animal you missed earlier....you might not like this game. There are also times where you will be locked out of anything you missed earlier if you continue on, with the only way of completing them being starting a new game...hence my desire for the repeatability of specific areas. The story is simple and shown entirely through murals and short cut-scene segments. The only text is for the tutorials and button/key-pressing prompts. I would argue this is a great game for all ages but some parents/guardians might want to be ready for some pestering questions from younger kids on how to solve some of the puzzles. All-in-all I would recommend this game! It is not perfect, but is plenty cute and much more gameplay than I was expecting. Hopefully, you will enjoy it too. I am glad that I backed it and that the game came to life in the way that it did. Some tips for players (ie things the game doesn't tell you but it probably should have): -On the back of the player model is a cavity that can be blue. This is the 'charge' that you have for interacting. It lowers it's level as you interact with objects. There is a max of 3 charges you can have at once, and you can refill them at any time by interacting with plants/animals/anything that places the small pulsing ring at the base of the character. If it is yellow, that indicates a section where you can't roll, but can still interact. The game does tell you that you can get charge from interacting with nature but as far as I can remember doesn't explain that the player character's back is the charge indicator. It also just tells you that when the player character is sad you can't roll...never explaining that you can tell when that occurs by the player character color changing to yellow (and it will be raining...as long as you are outside). You only need to interact with a nature aspect once to completely fill your charge! -Also relating to charge, while you can move sliding rocks without using any charge, you cannot move them at all if your charge is empty...which is kinda hilarious to me. Make sure you have charge while moving them. -If you are achievement hunting MAKE SURE TO CHECK EACH AREA THOROUGHLY. As there are cases where you can't go back to previous areas. -Have fun and take breaks to enjoy the nature!
didn't expect anything from this went in blind what an odd cute game, the puzzles are overdone, the whole environment the amount of times i been out of bounds without realising and glitched through the map, the respawn dev i gotta redo the whole puzzle again, and the amount of crashes was stupid gonna give it a postive 4/10 only because the story is pretty cute and some nice music kept me going
Unpetrified: Echoes of Nature is a cozy puzzle-adventure game where you play as a stone golem traveling through a colorful world alongside a fox companion. Pros ✔️ Extremely relaxing to play - The whole game is built around reconnecting with nature and helping it flourish in a gentle, thoughtful way. ✔️ Small missions and puzzles keep things moving - There’s always something to do without it ever feeling overwhelming or difficult. ✔️ Consistently cute and charming - From the animals to the environments, it leans fully into being soft and comforting. Cons ❌ Controller recognition can be finicky - I ran into moments where inputs didn’t register properly. ❌ Movement speed feels slow - Especially considering how long some of the paths are. ❌ The compass could be clearer - At times it’s hard to tell if you missed something or if you’re meant to loop back later. Conclusion This was exactly the kind of game I needed. I went in feeling pretty stressed, and not long after starting I realized how calm I felt just moving through the world and helping things grow again. It’s simple, kind, and never asks too much of you. Sometimes that’s all a game needs to be. I came away from it feeling lighter than when I started, and that’s saying a lot. Score 9/10 Reawakened Roots — A gentle reminder to slow down and let things grow.
Delightful game. Puzzle platformer with some whimsy. The issues I had were resolvable in all cases reloading from checkpoint. Longer than I expected it to be which was nice. As challenging as the puzzles got, they never got too big or too challenging. I do wish it was clearer you were triggering plot continuation inadvertently since I would have liked to complete more areas throughout the game, but I'd trigger continuation with no way to go back.
