I have mixed feelings about it. You learn that you do not need an undo option in the first four chapters. I was in a flow. But the fifth chapter increases the "oops" moments to a very frustrating amount. This could easily be fixed with an undo option. Everything else speaks for a nice puzzle game: no timer, no move limits. Well, the controls, you'll get used to it. But I cannot recommend for someone like me who wants to complete the game with 100 % and not investing the free time with resets :/ But hey 11 % of the players mastered the fifth chapter, so maybe it is just me.
There are no words, there's no text, no introduction. It starts directly in the game. First levels are sort of a guide to the existing puzzle mechanics, but you have to guess them on your own, there's no "click on this to trigger that" type of tutorials. This is a nice way for the developer to get you started on the game without actually talking to you. First 20 levels are pretty easy, you mostly have fun pressing buttons. Then it gradually starts becoming more complicated. By the level 55 (where i am currently) it turns into a complicated multi-step strategy puzzle. You have to consider your actions into many steps forward and start thinking out of the box. Finishing such a level gives a sense of accomplishment. For the given price, i think it's a very nice game. Consider spending 10 hours of your life enjoying this puzzle ;)
I bought Unit 404 in a bundle along with [The Sequence], by the same developer. As a lover of puzzle games who has played many examples of the genre, Unit 404 game has many attributes of a good puzzle game: no timers, no quick reflexes needed, no randomness, simple controls and just your brain. However, for whatever reason, I just did not find it "fun" enough. Solving a puzzle gave me more of a feeling of "thank goodness that's over" rather than feeling really smart at completing it. I poured about 13 hours into the game and was completing every level as I went along. Once into chapter 5 where the sequences needed to complete a level became quite long, the game's lack of "undo last move" was just too much and I thought it was an unforgivable omission by the developer. Each time you make any mistake, you have to reset the whole puzzle. Who needs that kind of frustration? Not me. It pains me to give a negative review for a game that is well made with no bugs and has many attributes of a good puzzle game. So to end on a positive note, I am pretty far along [The Sequence], the other game in the bundle, and I am enjoying it much more. It is actually fun and does not have the same frustrating elements.
I was really surprised! I thought it impossible to create a puzzle with such cute character. You really want to help him while playing . Special thanks to developer for one more thing you don’t expect in puzzle game - very high quality of graphics and sound. Highly recommended.
Nice and relaxing puzzle game for couple evenings.
This is a very good puzzle game with 1 major flaw and that is a rewind button. There is nothing wrong with the puzzle design , the game is divided in 5 chapters and in each you are introduced slowly to new mechanics. Nothing ground breaking but very good puzzles at times very hard, you have 4 chapters for casual puzzle fans and chapter 5 for hardcore fans. I finished chapter 5 but all I can say is - Good luck solving the last level - and here is where we come to 1 major flaw this game has and that is a rewind button. To be honest I think for many players this will be an instant turnoff because this game is not easy and many levels involve trial and error so it can get very frustrating to solve harder levels. I can guarantee I would have 8 hrs less if they implemented a rewind function. I recommend this game for people who have nerves of steel because in the end this is a very good puzzle game with some complex puzzles. Shame that developers gave up on this game.
