I really enjoyed this, well done on your first solo development:) You created a really beautiful atmospheric world with a lot of soul. All the best
That's barely a game. That's even barely a walking simulator. And the last achievement is broken and probably won't be fixed. A big "No thanks" from me even if the game is almost free.
Is this game good? Nah. But its short and super cheap on sales so if you wanna try it go ahead, but I can't really recommend it. Its got some really weird stuff not like "wow what strange lore" its just like "ok I guess I'll water the plants with seawater because the river is poisoned?" Clearly made by a single dev so can't judge it too much I guess. Didn't scratch the horror dinosaur itch
So after playing the game through, and posting my gameplay to Youtube, I found several things with my experience. First thing, Amar, you did very well with flushing the game out from the demo. The voice acting was a nice touch, the animations were excellent additions and the atmosphere of the game was very tense. Now some cons: -The game didn't run well on the High setting, but after dropping it, the game ran alot better. -The objectives tended to be very obscure and often led to frustration. In my video, I had cut out upwards of 30 min of just walking around trying to find the objective (barring some of the puzzles). -If possible, maybe add extra assets (smaller dinosaurs, maybe bodies here and there, destroyed vehicles, etc) in order to really add to the environment. -Next, the story could use some extra refining, I know it's your first game but a good story is an excellent way to hold a player in the game. This is all constructive, use it. I enjoyed the game and the potential it has, now you know where you can apply improvements if you so choose.
I really enjoyed UNEXTINCTION. While the early puzzle—finding the lab code—felt a bit frustrating, once past that hurdle the game truly shines. The visuals are breathtaking: lush island jungles, cinematic labs, and dynamic dino encounters all draw you in. The voice acting is first-rate, adding real emotional weight to the story and those dinosaur segments? Especially the T. rex moment—absolutely stunning. The tension, the scale, the thrill... That said, the game could benefit from optimization improvements; I noticed some hiccups that pulled me out of the immersion at times. Overall though, despite a few rough edges, and with it being the developers first game. UNEXTINCTION delivers a memorable, visceral experience worth checking out.
I was really torn between whether I would give it a positive review or not. It's something in between, and for the current price, it's more than enough. However, unfortunatelly, I cannot recommend it at this stage as a finished project. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, and the visual effects look good, like the forest, all the flora and such. But there is just a lot of stuff missing. When it comes to setting atmosphere further, it needs additional sounds, like when you're on a boat, but there are no sounds of waves. Also, the jumpscares need at least some sounds (not turned all the way up like many people do, of course), because it DID make me jump, but it wasn't as effective due to being silent. Visuals are looking great! But the explosion of the lab looks a bit wonky. It also ruins the atmosphere of fear of the lurking danger when we don't see the dinosaur destroy the ship and helicopter during the boat sequence and instead our memory just glitches out. At least some signs of the wreckage would make it look more believable and set the mood, because otherwise you start to question if the ship and the helicopter were here in the first place. And then comes the story. It's just rather confusing, like it can't decide if it wants to be a horror, a science-fiction, paranormal or fever dream. If the inclination is towards the story being a bad dream, it would be good to get some kind of hint in the beginning, like see us going to bed before everything starts (this way we can set our expectations during less realistic stuff, like seeing things here and there). Of course, without that you're supposed to believe you're in real danger, stranded at sea and then at the dinosaur island, but it makes it hard to believe that danger is real because of mentioned above "memory glitches". It's also a bit hard to understand character's motivation sometimes. For example, when he decided to water the plants at the lab, when his main objective should be getting off the island or investigating, perhaps? (It would make more sense if he were to decide to settle down temporarily and meanwhile take care of the plants, because keeping something alive would bring comfort while stranded alone and help keep one's sanity in check.) Setting up camp outside and complaining about the cold, when the lab provides better and safer cover? Or when he woke up from the nap near the campfire to see the forest on fire and decided to go INTO the fire instead of going the opposite direction. There was also an option to fix communication link, I think, on the computer in the lab, which previously was impossible to do, because we needed to stop the emergency protocol in order to open the lab. I also understand now that during the sequence with T-rex, I was supposed to fire at it, but I didn't, and it still acted like I did. On top of everything, there weren't that many dramatic moments, or they felt a bit dull. You never feel in real danger, because character cannot die, and there are no cutscenes to show a brush with death or narrowly escaping a dangerous situation. It's more like a walking simulator. This review is not meant to bash the game. I wrote it, because I can see that it has the potential, and I'm sure with more work and experience there will be better games from the developer. I love dinosaurs and Jurassic Park with all my heart, so I wish the developer good luck and keep working, because there are good things too, a potential and passion. It's just that some error correction needs to be done, along with clearer shaping of what the story is supposed to be - a fight for survival or a bad dream meant to represent a cautionary tale.
Pretty interesting dino game, Story was good, gameplay kind holds your hand a lot but that isn't always a bad thing. The only issue I had was not being able to change mouse sensitivity, I tried the controls listed to change it but nothing happened, Not a deal breaker though. For 5$ and a little over an hour of playtime not a bad game, looking forward to more from this developer!
There's a part at the beginning where you go to sleep, and when you wake up, you're under the map. I tried it multiple times and it still happens.
For the record, I got this game for free as I offered to translate it in French. In this game you will enter the nightmare of a fisherman lost at sea. It took me some time to understand what I was playing to be honnest. It is a very peculiar and felt a bit like a LSD trip sometimes. Now, after finishing it, I feel it should be seen more as a graphic story than a game as we are used to and this is actually ok! It took me around 1h to finish the game, although my play time is more than that, as I had to start over twice due to issues with the logs and stones part and on the boat at the beginning (both bugs have been fixed by now I believe). Overall, it is an interesting piece of work, an allegory of the relation of Human with nature (from what I understood). Honnestly this is what I expect from small indie projects, something different although it is not perfect ('though the game is pretty to be fair). You can tell the dev is passionate and put a lot of work into his project. Now, yeah, the game is not free but if you want to support the indie ecosystem and have some time to spare, I guess you could give it a try.
