its not being updated anymore. the last update was almost 2 YEARS ago. If you can't update a buggy game why would you want to buy it. I just wanna say this: DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME. It's buggy and very complicated. It also has been discontinued from my perception.
Do not recommend, poor optimization, no proper language packet and some gamebreaking bugs, shouldn't be out in full release yet. (I.e. you can not activate several upgrades because you're forced to hold to activate instead of clicking but the button keeps vanishing before you can hold it long enough, resetting it to 0)
Game was really buggy and lock up on me. Ended up requesting a refund.
Game is pretty buggy, on the forums you can see a bug that stops an entire section of the game from being finished has been broke for 2 years. Interface is a pain to use as far as user experience. Things also take forever due to repeated and unskippable animations. It seems like a thrown together game that they made mostly work and left it at that. The invasion combat has bugged out after I won the fight in NA. Europe refuses to actually do anything and that's where my invasion fleet is so I guess that ends this game for me.... Very Buggy, unfinishable game with no devs around for two years.
This is a yes with major reservations - so if you're skimming reviews? Consider this a no. If you're willing to read on, it becomes a yes. This is not a good game. It is lacking a lot of quality of life features - skipping animations, for instance. Some features seem to be incomplete - the game talks about the Manhattan project, but there's no obvious way to stop the Manhattan project and prevent the humans from developing nukes. So why am I saying yes to Under Domain? This game comes across as a prototype, as something incomplete. The presentation is beautiful - the screenshots look great - and most of the core features seem to be in place. There's a strong sense that a lot of ideas that should have gone into this game got cut so the thing could be finished and released. There's a lot going on here that shows that there's been hard work on this project, that a lot of effort has gone into it, but something rushed this thing to completion before it was ready. This should be an Early Access title - it should still be under development, but it's complete. And I'm asking myself, why? The developers seem to be a small company in Sao Paulo - PlayLearn. Looking around and doing a little googling, it doesn't seem like a very big company, and what little feedback there was on glassdoor seemed positive. This game is rushed. Why would a small developer rush out a game this year? Pretty obvious that they don't have the money and support they need to finish what they're doing. I can tell that if this company had the money to hire a proper translator, to get some proper Quality Assurance and testing done, they could make really cool stuff. This game is really close to being cool stuff - the presentation, while flawed in terms of quality of life (unskippable animations, things taking a long time to do), is beautiful. Someone with real talent is working on this game, and I'd really like to see them make another game with more resources behind them. Playing this game tells me that staff at PlayLearn are doing something right, and need to be listened to. Whoever came up with the story for this game needs to be rewarded. The artists need to be rewarded. The designer needs to be rewarded. The coders need to be rewarded. But whoever decided this needed to be published in the state this is? That person made the wrong decision - and I'm hoping it's because they didn't have the resources they needed. If they did, they really need to listen to the rest of the team and give them the time they need to finish their work. This thing is fun for one or two runs - that's about an hour, an hour and a half of playtime. I'm happy to spend about the price of a cup of coffee or the price of a nice Christmas card for that. But a lot of people - especially those looking for a complete game they can play over and over again - won't be happy spending that money. I think there's a team of game developers here you should support, but I don't think there's a game that's going to satisfy you. While the price is low - especially when it's on special - I do think you should support the developers. If they come back and rebuild a lot of the game? Maybe you should get it at full price. But you should definitely check out whatever they put onto Steam next, especially if they've managed to put the extra time into development that their games will need.
Despite the awesome premise... kind of just... not fun. Your first 4 turns (so like, 40 actions) are probably all going to be just building up economy in a very boring way, and you'll want to do this every game in probably the same way. This game would probably be a lot more fun without these bland non-choices. There's all this hinting that you can influence these really specific events, but nothing ever seems to materialize. The little cutscenes and the art and stuff are really cool, and tie things together nicely. But the random UI bugs that prevent you from activating things really make it hard to want to experiment. The final invasion at the end of the game is the real downer. You're basically just there to watch rock-paper-scissors play out for 5 minutes at a time, 2-4 times per continent. Hope you just built a load of your best units, and pray you divvy them out to the right places.
The last upgrade for your mothership is bugged and will not work. Interesting game, the downside is that combat is completely RNG. Your unit that is good vs infantry decides to attack tanks. Your unit good vs tanks attacks infantry. It is very possible to lose invasion due to RNG. I thought I could murder a world leader to incite a war. Nope. I thought I could manipulate someone into starting a war. Nope You can't skip cut scenes or deploying of probes. For some odd reason, your resources extractors go offline every turn. And of course I hate RNG, the larger force can lose to a smaller one, because of what I mentioned above.
This is my first review. Let me start with I really liked the looks and concept of this game and maybe I shouldn't be writing this at the moment having never played the game. My first issue was getting the game to launch, After many times of clicking the short cut to no avail, then trying from the Steam app I had to launch from the local file section to get it to start. Once there I started the tutorial. Got to the mothership screen and launched the engineer successfully but when instructed to launch the next step it was as if my mouse arrow was not being registered and could not get any further. I tried and relaunched the game again after another five tries I still could not get past that point. I really get frustrated when I take the time to download something only to find out I have to research the internet to see if there is a fix. I wish Steam would officially review games, spot the bugs and issue warnings . While I do read reviews and watch Youtube videos on the product ahead of purchase, You tubers don't report the types of issues one might come across and the reviews written here are a blend of you either hated it or loved it. I really hope the dev didn't already abandon this game and can fix the problems or that after a certain number of refund requests Steam thins out the herd of glitchy games.
First of I had allot of UI bugs because there is not window mode option supposed and I have a 50" widescreen monitor. Alt+Enter does not allow to resize the window. Shame on you developers... While I love the concept and idea of this game, sort of a reverse X-Com twist! It's sadly just too shallow gameplay wise with repetitive and unengaging decisions. You make some energy and materials buildings, and the rest is just a series of uninteresting unlocks doing x number of actions. Don't want to spoil anything, but I was massively disappointed with the invasion part at the end, the randomness was a huge letdown where I had one ship destroy 3 continents because of god's intervention. Such a wasted opportunity for an epic showdown where your agents and combined action through time would have an effect beside an attack and defense modifier.. :(
So I dont usually write reviews but this game really disappointed me. The thought of a game that is essentially xcom (without the team based combat) but in reverse intrigued me which is why I bought the game but the way it plays out just didn't impress me. Firstly the tutorial was short and explained the basics and I was kinda excited when it said now we want you to learn by trial and error which I was ok with. But I encountered a bug in level 5 or 6 of the mother ship which meant I couldn't advance the ship any further. When I hovered over the canon upgrade it would dissappear before I could hover over the select button, I tried for a while to quickly move my mouse but it just wouldn't work. This upgrade meant I couldn't reduce the human war power and or upgrade the ship further and so I fielt forced into starting an invasion I wasn't ready for or so I thought. So the human war power was stronger than mine and I had build a few ships but couldn't build anymore as to do so I would need to advance the decade this would have made the humans stronger and inhad no way now of reducing it, which is why I felt I just had tobstart the envision. The invasion is no fun at all, you select the ships for the continent and then battle and just watch as what looks as if random ships attack each other. The animations are basic and the battles take too long to just sit, watch and do nothing. They are essentially auto resolving, but its like you are watching the first ever computer run through its algorithms. Boring. I few of the under powered continent's were taken over but I lost a most of the battles in NA, EU and Asia...but I won the invasion....it was incredibly anticlimactic. I won my first playthrough and didn't have a clue what was going on
