There's some interesting ideas here, but I spent longer fighting with the UI and UI bugs than I did playing the game. E.g.: The game kept either deselecting my survivor after each action, or would keep them highlighted but stop responding to mouse clicks unless I clicked them again. I couldn't find a working hotkey for cycling survivors, and the game would sometimes fail to auto-end my turn leaving me to scroll around and check if my survivors were all out of action points. I couldn't figure out how to cancel a multi-turn scavenging action, and when I tried the game auto-ended my turn leaving me to watch as my survivor was chewed up by a zombie who spent two turns shambling towards them. I queued up my first base structure and couldn't figure out how to build it; it looked like it was building on its own, so I had my survivor walk a turn away and discovered a few turns later it had canceled (and appeared to throw out my resources?). I dropped heavy loot to transfer it to a survivor with more free encumbrance, only for the items to disappear entirely. Even the save game UI isn't intuitive (I thought I was saving in a new slot, but was apparently overwriting my save); etc. If this was still early access I'd probably just write bug reports and come check in later. Since the first hour of gameplay was this rough after full release, I refunded instead.
It seems as though most of the reviews here are from another, earlier stage of the Early Access - I did not run in to any of the concerns below. This game is excellent - frantic and a lot of fun. capturing and holding a house over the 'night' turns is tough and requires careful set up and placement of traps and sight-lines, exactly my cup of tea. The only downside in my mind was a lack of shooting 'overwatch' skills, which would have been cool and strangely absent given the melee overwatch is very much present in the game. I managed to explore almost all of the map and was constantly being surprised by interesting new locations and enemy types. This game is well worth the cost and I am looking forward to playing the full release.
Better than I expected! A couple more years of development/fixes and this could scratch the same itch as Dead State.
sriously turn base inside the base? cant we just turn base at outside and defending time only, it waste ton of time just reimagine xcom , most people had limited time to play make other live simple, and you will had more buyer, need ton of change combat is fine aniway just turn base movement inside own base? COME ON!!
10/10 would cap my own lads with the shotgun again
Ok, I have not put in much time yet but, I wanted to say something quickly, because of the great discount in the summer sale and there not being many recent reviews to go on, plus most of those are very irresponsible and strange… So far, I am very impressed with the game. Very polished, great art style, graphics, atmosphere, music, UI, controls and gameplay. When I saw this, it ticked a lot of my boxes: survival, zombies, low poly, turn based. There isn’t much else on the market that has that. If you like the look of the screenshots and description, I am pretty sure you will like this game. The gameplay at the moment is just trying to keep your group of survivors alive. There is no campaign or story yet that I have seen, but each area has goals to achieve, and the gameplay is good enough to make that enough for an enjoyable experience (and I am someone who really likes a good story to hang things on). I can’t see any of the problems mentioned in the negative reviews… there are no issues with controls or UI or bugs… maybe they were early access issues that are now fixed or local issues… or the problem is with the reviewer… Some of the comments look very irresponsible considering they were based on an early access build… and the recent reviews of the full release clearly show that some people are intellectually challenged… I’ll update soon when I have put in some more hours... P.S. I have been playing games since 1982, and I have played a lot.
This is a fun little early access game that has a lot of potential to be really awesome. Has some bugs right now but Developer is working them out a little at a time. Will be great when more game options are unlocked.
