This is an essay on frustration. It's original, with intriguing concepts, but the least that can be said is that it teaches you how difficult mere survival can be. Besides the clunky UI and villagers running around aimlessly, balance is harsh. Even while only building the bare minimum (shelters, campfire, basic staple resources gathering), maintenance tasks eat up all your workforce, leaving barely enough to cook food. Everything else sits in the tasks list forever, or more precisely until colony members get fed up with bad living standards and leave, or are killed by animals. I just got fed up too, and uninstall this game that I really tried to like.
Man, I really wanted to love this game.. :( And to top it all off, game looks abandoned by the devs, which is a shame.. the art is good, the fun survival mechanics are fun! Its a gem.. a unpolished turd covered gem... I cant recommend it, unless you love Sims and its super cheap, then get it, I guess, maybe if the Devs get some money they will come back. Its super fun.. when its working like it should. The game is complicated but not impossible, its fair, man, Its just so damn sad it was left like this.. The lore is great, take some time to read the story, some scenarios have good dialogue and events which just gives you a glimpse of what this game could have been. Game music is broken it cuts off and restarts and its super jarring. There is no autosaving so if (in typical sim game fashion), you get so focused on the game you forget to save for a long time, the game starts bogging down and glitchy stuff starts to happen and if you get unlucky, it may freeze and since you didnt save.. bye bye, Oh yeah, the game also doesnt close/exit properly and I need to force shutdown from steam library. When one of my guys died, whenever I tried to save, the game would crash.. it was awful. Right now, you can only play in scenarios which have the same map. If they added mod support so players could share their own maps and scenarios, it would have been great! Heck, give players access to fix the game! Luckily, you CAN 100% the game, took me 100 hours but I had to reload lots of times because reasons. If you are having trouble, I made a guide while I was suffering! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2878354358 There is one achievement which needs you to play on a beta test version of the game. Unfortunately, I just cant recommend this lovely game in this broken state, if the devs decide to come back and fix some issues, Im so willing to switch my review around, if anyone reads this and the game has updated for the better, let me know please! Unclaimed Worlds gets 10 golden turds out of 30 colonists who cant store items into containers properly.
Unfinished and seems abandoned at this point
It's an abandoned game, and consumers should expect an unfinished game, that never really worked right when it was receiving updates. The guide to help teach you how to play is very poorly done, and you're left to repeatedly fail until you give up or try something different, even though you'll eventually run into an issue that can't be dealt with and have to start all over again. The game isn't hard, it's just poorly thought out, and the UI leaves the player wondering what to do. It's clear the art style was the focus, not the actual game-play or game itself.
Unclaimed World is an ancient game from 2012-2016. It's a whopping 8-12 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for the typical features of modern gaming PCs, hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on contemporary machines. The game looks and feels dated. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an old game. This seems to have be lingering on Steam with an inflated price to try profit from abandonware. And abandonware this most certainly is. This looks like a really promising space colony simulator... and games like this can really be amazing and fun to play, but here, it's not. There's little to no content, just three mostly sandbox scenarios, and it's buggy and a lot of the gameplay is either massively unpolished or just not there. The developers walked away from this, but they're still reprehensibly trying to charge money for an incomplete game... this is not good for gamers, and leaving the game on Steam in an incomplete and valueless state is just polluting the store. So don't be fooled by the promising looks and theme... what's advertised is not what you get. Unclaimed World didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is "Castaways - Completed", for finishing the first tutorial, trivial to get, but less than 21 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, even the people who own this game weren't interested in it. Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a modest spike in player counts for the game. But this only happened once, around the same time that trading cards were applied to the game... so this is just card idlers getting their cards and moving on. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? Unclaimed World is relatively expensive for an abandonware nostalgia gouge, at $17 USD, and it's not worth it. Even when it was new, this was never a triple-A game. This is the kind of game that would go almost directly from the warehouse into the cheap bargain bins at the front of the shop. For comparison, the $17 asking price for this game could get you games like "Red Dead Redemption 2", "The Outer Wilds" or "Stray". Quality, professionally made (and fully completed) games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this.
last update 2017. "bUt I MuSt DeFeNd ShAdY PrAcTiCeS!!!" - every company defender.
Unclaimed World could have been a big thing, it delivers the feeling of an unclaimed world. Unfortunately the AI & UI problems are way too much...
Pleasantly odd, a bit of a frustrating UI, with long periods of watching interspersed with demanding micro. Best thing about it is how well it does the 'weirdness' of being on a xenoplanet, Probably not worth full price.
KAMGUSTA'S MINI REVIEW My gameplay is 10 hours of a popup saying "MISSING WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER" (that I have) - game won't work on Windows 11. Released on 2016, developers abandoned it just after 7 months - they took the money and run away. Do not buy it under any circumstances. Best played with imagination Recommended buy price: they should pay you Score: 0/10
it had potential, but then they remade it and broke it. garbage and waste of money.
