Cross Board Soccer is essentially 2 opposing teams with goals, similar to soccer, on an oversized checkerboard like checkers or chess, with predetermined placement of 14 pieces spread in groupings of 4 and 3 on the defending sides. What makes this game so exciting and strategic is that while only one piece is being moved each turn, the evolution of the board makes keeping up and remembering where lines of safety are. The planning ahead and the fear of your goal being scored on from any angle is what makes the strategy of this game feel akin to chess. In short you must preserve the safety of your goal but also at the same time set yourself to jump one of your pieces turn by turn, and hopefully get to a position to where the opposing team has left it open for you to score and win! Your only option is to play this game windowed and has no full screen options. Graphics are minimalistic but retro and you have an option of using “photo design” and feels like you are playing on a set of blueprints which I rather enjoyed the aesthetic of. You can also change the aspect at which you view the board, this removes the flat one dimensional minesweeper feel. Every time you win or lose you are forced to use the drop down menu that sits above the game to restart. I find this mildly annoying and I wish there was a hotkey to restart instead. This game is pure strategy and I feel like it would feel and be much more competitive against friends instead of only AI. I imagine that idea has already been considered but would be great to see implemented. The easy AI is near impossible starting out until you get the hang of it and can quickly assess your imminent threats to your goal. I wish there was the availability to change the board size - the amount of spaces on the board and the amount of pieces could extend gameplay. I think it is well balanced as is but would be interesting to test variations. I could see this game having more arcade-y modes, like: changing board shapes, blocking spaces or an item/power-up that draws your interest to a space and makes you balance that idea of preservation of your goal. I genuinely enjoyed playing this game especially because I am a board game fanatic and this bleeds into the same area of strategy as tabletop gaming. I love the idea that this game could easily translate to the real world with little effort. When you do win it feels like an accomplishment or that you earned it and getting that kind of satisfaction from a game is rewarding.I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to play some quick gaming that's strategic and challenging and really mashes concepts or mechanics borrowed from fundamental games like soccer, checkers, and chess. Good
I have requested a refund. That was probably the most enjoyable thing that came from this game. I personally rather, get waterboarded by the US government, die an excruciating death, and get railed by ten men, before I would even try to play this "game" again. This game has mechanics that make absolutely zero logical sense. The graphics, on the other hand, look like a concoction that can only be achieved by allowing a blind kindergartener, to be the lead designer of this game. Unless you're getting paid to play this game, do not buy it. Even if they make it free, you SHOULD STILL NOT BUY IT. Unless you're looking for an excuse to delete your Steam account. 0/10, probably the worst game that has ever been made.
