I went into this blind, from a recommendation after playing another visual novel, not really knowing what to expect. Holy heck what a journey! Such a wonderful VN with a beautiful branching story and also lots of extras! The art is lovely and the voice acting is phenomenal. Buy it, play it, get sucked in to the story and the lives of the characters, like I was - it's so worth it!
I enjoyed Twofold immensely. It was nice to see characters from First Snow again and to meet Olive. Twofold had a similar "feel" to First Snow but it was interesting to learn more about the characters as choices get made and relationships develop and friendships grow. You learn that people are not as simple as they appear. Family and the past can play a huge role in how people turn out. I really felt that all of the characters were fully developed, even those that do not appear a lot. This made the stories feel fuller and more rewarding to experience. I very highly recommend Twofold.
I Simply Can't Put into words how much I love this game. I have Never before just fully broken down and cried while reading a book or playing a game, and not necasarily sad tears either, it is just such a moving story, and hands down the best one I have read. I can so closely relate to caprice because Im always trying to put on a facade of being the strong one, and i also strugle to recognize when I cant power through. For Millie I can activly relate to having a close family member being terminaly ill, as I'm going through that right now. And for Oliver, I'm ata point in my life where i'm just struggling to find motivation to do the things that I need to do to get myself a proper education. I'm trying not to spoil to much because you SHOULD play it, no you NEED to play this game. I just can't put into words how much I love TwoFold, along with the Prequell FirstSnow. More People NEED to play this game and experience it as I did. If I had to rank This Out of all the games I Have Played, it is one, I Personnaly Enjoy The Story Even More so than HollowKnight, Silksong, Expedition 33, BG3. So Please, Just Play this game. 10/10. Oh, there is also the fact that Olive is in fact VA'ed by dottovu
staggeringly, surprisingly good. the writing here is fantastic!! i don't like caprice, she's the kind of person who genuinely rubs me the wrong way, but she's so so well written that i can't hate her. and millie is one of the best depictions i've ever read of someone who's trying her best, who puts in a lot of effort to make other people happy and just ends up treated like a doormat. watching people take her kindness as permission to ignore her boundaries and take her for granted is heartbreaking, the core conflict of the story isn't happening because either of these girls(or anybody else involved) are bad people, but because so many people are projecting their feelings and issues onto millie instead of just. listening to her. except olive of course. they're basically the one emotionally intelligent person in the cast lol i love this VN and you should to!!!
This game was awesome. This is the type of game where you get different perspectives on the same story but it's really well done here. I LOVE how both girls are a bit unlikable at first especially after the prologue and then after you learn a bit about both of them through their respective stories it makes you want to learn way more about the characters. I also love how some of the scenes backgrounds and even foregrounds are actively moving which brings the characters to life despite having a comic book feel to the game. You even get a chance to friendship characters in shorter routes part of the main routes which is really cool and despite having a short time with the friends you get a lot of characterization out of them. Highly recommend this game.
twofold is not without its weak points: the scenes with supporting cast members generally leave you wanting a lot more, and caprice and millie’s relationship feels like it could have been introduced/explored a little better upon reflection, but overall it’s a solid and very lovely visual novel. completing both girls’ routes is a must!! twofold excels in its most emotionally charged moments, both in the main game and in perfect circle, its collection of side stories. twofold also earns the distinction of being the first visual novel to ever make me cry - it almost got me a few times during millie’s route, but perfect circle’s ending sequence is a triumph in storytelling that had the tears flowing from start to finish. powerful and just so deeply human. major kudos.
Twofold is a puzzle game that proves compelling gameplay does not require elaborate visuals or an abundance of mechanics. Developed and published by Grapefrukt, the title presents players with a deceptively straightforward objective: manipulate colored tiles across a compact board, merge matching groups, and survive for as long as possible. While its premise can be explained in moments, the actual experience quickly evolves into a thoughtful test of strategy and foresight. Every action has lasting consequences, creating a game that consistently rewards careful planning over impulsive decisions. The Steam description highlights the game's emphasis on elegant puzzle design, and that philosophy is evident from the opening minutes. Players are introduced to a clean set of rules that remain consistent throughout the experience. There are no unlock trees, extensive tutorials, or intrusive systems competing for attention. Instead, Twofold relies on a tightly designed gameplay loop where each turn matters. The board constantly shifts based on player decisions, creating an engaging balance between maintaining control and taking calculated risks. This simplicity is not a weakness; rather, it serves as the foundation for a remarkably deep puzzle experience. Presentation is another area where the game excels. Twofold adopts a minimalist visual style that prioritizes readability, making it easy to understand the state of the board at a glance. The bold use of color ensures that players can quickly identify opportunities and threats without visual clutter getting in the way. Complementing this aesthetic is a subdued soundtrack that reinforces the game's relaxing atmosphere. Despite its calm appearance, however, the game generates a surprising amount of tension during extended sessions, particularly when the board begins to fill and difficult choices become unavoidable. One of the title's strongest qualities is its replayability. Since success is determined by decision-making rather than scripted content, every session unfolds differently. Players gradually develop their own strategies, learning when to conserve valuable spaces and when to commit to larger combinations. The game's mechanics encourage experimentation, and mastery comes through experience rather than artificial progression systems. This design makes Twofold equally suited for brief play sessions and longer attempts to surpass personal bests. There are, however, aspects that may limit its appeal. Players seeking a story-driven experience or a wide variety of game modes may find the offering too focused. The game remains committed to its central concept from beginning to end, and while that dedication is admirable, it also means the experience can feel repetitive for those who prefer constant novelty. Fortunately, the underlying mechanics are polished enough to sustain interest for players who enjoy methodical puzzle-solving and score chasing. In the end, Twofold succeeds by embracing restraint. Grapefrukt has crafted a title that understands exactly what it wants to be and executes that vision with confidence. Its accessible mechanics, strategic depth, and polished presentation combine to create a memorable puzzle game that stands apart through elegance rather than excess. For fans of minimalist design and thoughtful gameplay, Twofold is an easy recommendation and a reminder that some of the best puzzle experiences are built on the simplest ideas. Rating: 8/10
Twofold is probably my favorite VN in a long time, this was a beautiful story that honestly broke me
beautiful visual novel
I ended up replaying this game 6–7 times for every achievement, and I don't regret a single playthrough. 😭 I came in expecting a cute yuri visual novel and left with emotional damage. The music, art, voice acting, and characters were all fantastic, and each route felt unique instead of being the same story with a different romance. I also really loved Olive. They felt like an actual person instead of a blank-slate protagonist, and seeing them constantly support Caprise and Mollie made me even more invested in the story. ***⚠️ Spoilers ahead! ⚠️***
Caprise was easily my favorite. Watching her slowly figure out relationships was adorable, and her energy made every scene fun to watch. Mollie... girl, PLEASE communicate. 😭 I liked her route, but she spent half the game expecting everyone to understand her without saying what she was feeling. The library scene had me yelling at my screen after she kissed Olive and immediately acted like it never happened. 💀 Still, once you understand her grief and why she pushes people away, her actions make a lot more sense. Neither girl was perfect, and that's exactly why they felt so real.
Overall, this visual novel made me laugh, smile, get frustrated, and absolutely wrecked my emotions. 6–7 playthroughs later... I'd still happily do it all again. **10/10. Would willingly receive emotional damage again. 😁**
