Reviews
Just play this masterpiece. You can not trust your parents or your siblings, but trust me and play this game. Welcome.

it looks great but the gameplay is just incredibly basic and the pacing is also rudimentary. feels more like an exercise in game design than an actual game to be played
It's incredible!
Tunic is one of the most baffling experiences I've ever had playing a game. It wears its Zelda influences like a badge, yet there are no actual puzzles in this game that force you to cleverly interact with the games mechanics, instead locking the solutions to puzzles behind knowledge you accrue through the manual pages. This is all well and good but if there are no puzzles that require you to actually think and problem-solve then why even market this as a puzzle game? Another core issue with the game is the actual combat. I thought the combat was going to be secondary to the exploration, so I was pleasantly surprised when it wasn't since games like this don't usually focus on combat, then all that went out the window when I realized the combat is a non-responsive piece of ♥♥♥♥ that is never fun once (except when throwing dynamite at people, but that isn't a viable strategy). The magic system is one of the most half-assed things I've ever seen in any game with this level of popularity, with maybe 1 or 2 MP consuming weapons worth using and no way to refill the mana bar except removing the use of health potions (to my knowledge). But the exploration is what really matters, its the first tag of the game after all. I'll concede that exploring the first few areas was pretty fun, but it really all hits the fan once the key fetch quest starts. (Spoilers for the rest of the game ahead) The forest castle area is middling at best with a mediocre, forgettable boss at the end which would rather run away than actually fight you, real enthralling stuff. The Library in the sky or whatever cliche boring name it really has is just 2 rooms and then the boss, which is a simple design I've seen in a million games that is also accompanied by janky hitboxes thanks to the isometric view-model this game has that purely works to it's benefit and does not kneecap the combat in every situation its in no sirree not here. Extremely forgettable location. Good god The Quarry. Jesus christ. I don't even know where to begin besides from the fact that I don't know how it's possible for an area like this to sneak into any game, regardless of who it's from. Having enemies that do a lot of damage is one thing, having obstacles that reduce your max health is fine if done well, and spamming enemies everywhere is also whatever. Combining all of that as well as a stupid visual filter that makes it unable to actually see anything and be even borderline epilepsy inducing at some points results in maybe the single worst location I've played in any game. Ever. I played this game alongside a friend who was glazing it the entire time because he's a closeted furry who eats up any of this slop and even he couldn't defend this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. The area it turns into is cool and all but the boss is terrible (noticing a pattern?) Then, after all that bullcrap where you can't see and have to get these random items and none of it is actually interesting and everything sucks, the game takes away all of your upgrades and puts you back at level 1 for the final level. Interesting idea, hope the area it leads capitalizes on it! The cathedral isn't as bad as the quarry just based on the sole fact that it doesn't completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ blind you, but gameplay wise it's even worse. Getting rid of all your progress is already slightly ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, but then putting you in a field of invisible enemies that 1shot you, and have nigh-infinite tracking range, it's like the game is purposefully trying to just be as bad as possible. Then the boss is just a gauntlet of enemies you've already fought, except now with base level stats. Cool. After this you have to re-explore the entire map, which I actually didn't mind since the alterations made to the map made re-exploring it fairly interesting, and the final boss wasn't too bad either. Why is this game like this? In all honesty, the beginning of the game was very good. The art is pretty, most of the dialogue/language being unreadable is neat, and exploring was fun for the first few areas before the key fetch quest. Where did any of the whimsy or intrigue from this part of the game go? The nosedive in quality this game takes is astounding to me, the same level as dark souls 1, but the first half doesn't even scratch the brilliancy of the 1st half of that game, so why is this game so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lauded? Herein lies my biggest gripe with the game, and it's really not even the game's fault. Why do so many people adore this game? It doesn't make the slightest amount of sense to me. It's an above-average metroidvania with a unique premise until it becomes unbelievable ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ for hours until a decent final boss. Maybe I'm being a little harsh, but I feel as though the lowlights of this game are undeniable to any real critic, yet this game is met with almost unilateral praise. I see people complain that this game didn't win the indie game of the year accolade in 2022, but if it did I honestly think the influx of players who try it on that pretense would really pick apart the shortcomings in this game in a way that the cult of people who adore it cannot. Seriously, even after some videos about the game and reading plenty of steam reviews, none of the core issues I have with the game seem even remotely discussed, instead everyone's hyperfocused on the cute little main character and vibe instead of the actual ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game. One of the most egregious examples of furryslop I've seen online. Feel this is necessary, but I do not dislike furries nor the furry community. I make jokes about them in this review because I do not see any reason this game has such stellar reviews outside of astroturfing from furries. I watch furry porn all the time. I like furries. I don't like this game.
what a predictable creature!
Not for me and I can't recommend to others. Gameplay combat and movement are too floaty/loose for a game that requires iframe. There should be an color, stance change in mob, or some other indicator to show your combo is staggering/stun locking vs the minion is ignoring it; Its too inconsistent. The first several "puzzles" are take a key from one side of them map to the other which I found too slow pace and unengaging. Finally pressing the same button in a row to do damage is very one note.
