Tricky Towers

I love this game. Tetris with physics is such a simple idea but it works incredibly well. It’s a really fun casual game to play with family or friends, but even the single-player content is worth playing. The Trials are fun to work through and the different modes keep things interesting. My main complaint is that I really wish the game had AI opponents. Online can be pretty dead most of the time, which isn’t too surprising considering the game is around 10 years old now, but it means some parts of the game are harder to enjoy unless you have someone to play locally with or happen to find people online. The achievements are also where the game becomes a lot less fun. Some are genuinely challenging and satisfying, but far too many feel more RNG based than skill based. You can be playing well and still have a run ruined by bad spells, repeated negative effects or awkward physics, and some achievements rely on specific spells appearing with very little indication of what you’re actually missing. I spent a lot of time going for 100%, and while I did eventually get there, some achievements were more frustrating than rewarding. The game itself is excellent, but I’d definitely warn achievement hunters that the completion can be a bit of a pain. Still, I’d absolutely recommend Tricky Towers. It’s easy to pick up, difficult to master, funny when everything goes wrong, and one of those games that works just as well for a quick casual session as it does when you accidentally lose a few hours to it.
