Trawl is a first person experiential game of discovery and creativity. First you must figure out how to operate the various parts of the boat, manipulating the wheel, throttle and the net. Then, trawl the sea to recover discover what secrets are hidden in its depths and record your findings on your typewriter.

Experimental Art is certainly not for everyone, especially if it presents itself in form of a "videogame" (maybe calling it "interactive art" would be more fitting). For me it is always refreshing and inspiring to see such lovely little experiments. This is no exception. It's thoughtful and can indeed be an inspiring ground for creative writing. Recommended for those interested in the subject.
quick disclosure, im friends with one of the devs The atmosphere was great. I found I was writing my own narrative and on the second play through I started imaging scenarios where I was going to be attacked by HP Lovecraft’s Deep Ones. The two main mechanics in my opinion are the typewriter and your imagination. The typewriter gives you an outlet for your imagination to run wild whilst stranded on a tiny Trawler. The mood is set by the creaking of the boat against the waves, also the ringing of the bell whilst you have gone below to add to your notes. Extremely interested to know if the letters in the bottle are saved, would be great to read other users letters.
Trawl isn't your typical game. There isn't a flashy tutorial, or a deep story. Instead you simply come to on the deck of a trawler, surrounded by the endless void of ocean. The game invites you to experiment and poke around. For less than a fiver, you can trawl the depths in hopes of seeing something exciting in your net once pulled aboard, place them around your ship, and keep a captain's log of your ramblings. There is no real ending to each play-through, but the game's simplicity draws you back to look for what else is out there. The endless rain sets a surprisingly relaxing environment which makes just being in trawl an almost meditative experience worth checking out. Would definitely recommend to almost anyone. ETA: Thought I should mention that I am close friends with the developer of this game although that hasn't swayed my opinion at all
Fun game! I enjoyed my time with it. Could do with a story arc or maybe some narrative. Get's a little repetitive after awhile, but that doesn't mean it's not enjoyable. Great game for killing a lunch break or a half hour between classes.
Atmospheric unease generator. It will be interesting to see what other people wrote.
Trawl is basically a writing exercise game. I love games that let you use your keyboard to write whatever the Hell you want. And this is basically all this game is, with you every now and then catching a writing prompt in your net. And the best thing of all is that the game saves what you wrote in documents, so you can go back and reread them! The only problem I have is that you can only catch three things at a time, and then you have to restart. If this could go on a lot longer, it would be perfect.
Great concept for a casual indie game. Still a few bugs to fix here and there, but that can be said for any game. Maybe fix the framerate. But overall not to bad 6/10
For those who love atmosphere and creativity ...For me ,it literally transports me on that trawler..I love it.
This game has so much potenail. It could be so much more than blindily moving a helm with a fishing net trailing you. It has a very cozy feeling and a very nice look. Now to get into the bad things. The first three items are very unenjoyable with that unnessicary horn/radio. The waves around the boat are so choppy and constantly high up that it almost ruins the slight emersion. This game could turn into a survival game of sorts where you need to fish for food and go to ports to sell items you find to upgrade your boat and possibly get a new one. As of right now I cannot recommend this game in its current state and that it costs 7 dollars. 5/10 Once again, it has so much potenial but the developer is holding back big time it seems.
