Perhaps a quirk of how my rig interacts with this version of the game, but everything is running really smooth and fast. This is a new peak for the series.

Molto bello
Good upgrade, runs better than TSW 6 and Aire & Wharfedale lines are great.
Dovetail Games
Unfinished tutorials, inconsistent controls, broken interactions — but the DLC store works perfectly I wanted to like this game. I enjoy simulators and I have absolutely no problem with learning complicated controls. In fact, that is part of the appeal. The problem with Train Sim World 7 is that I constantly have no idea whether I am doing something wrong or whether the game itself is broken. The tutorials are a mess from the very beginning. In the Class 323 tutorial, the game starts explaining various controls and systems in the cab — except nothing is highlighted, there are no arrows pointing at what it is talking about, and no clear indication of where I am even supposed to look. So the game is telling me about some switch or control while I am sitting there looking around the entire cab thinking: “OK... where exactly is this thing?” For a tutorial, that is bizarre. If you are introducing an unfamiliar train to a new player, at least highlight the control you are currently explaining. Then there is the control scheme itself. At the beginning I was asked which interface/control style I wanted. I selected the less simplified option, yet the tutorial kept showing elements from both simplified and normal interfaces at the same time. When I later checked the settings, Beginner Controls were still set to ON and the option was greyed out, so I couldn't even disable them. The instructions also don't always match what actually happens. At one point the tutorial tells you to use D to brake. In reality, D just reduces the power until the train reaches idle, after which it happily continues coasting. The actual brake has to be operated separately. The Class 323 itself has a combined power/brake controller in the cab, but the tutorial does a poor job of explaining how the actual physical control relates to the keyboard controls it is teaching you. Then the game pops up a message saying you can enable additional driver safety systems for extra points. Great. Which safety systems? Where are they? How do I enable them? What do they actually do? The game doesn't explain any of this. Apparently a new player is expected to already know what AWS, TPWS and DSD/Vigilance are, where the relevant switches are located and what keyboard shortcuts control them. That is exactly the kind of thing a railway simulator tutorial should be teaching. The same problem appears with normal cab controls. At one point I needed to switch the tail lights on. The game pointed me towards the control, but after I had changed cabs and returned, that switch — along with other previously interactive controls — was no longer interactive at all. This seems to happen whenever you do something even slightly outside the exact sequence the tutorial expects. Controls that worked perfectly a minute ago suddenly cannot be clicked. The scripting is equally unreliable. At one point the tutorial basically told me not to worry about the track switches because the game would handle them automatically and that I should concentrate on driving. So I did exactly that. I ended up on the wrong track because apparently I was actually supposed to change the switch myself. I tried reversing to get back. The screen started violently shaking, everything went dark, and the game decided I had crashed and offered to reload the checkpoint. Fine. I reloaded. The checkpoint then started with me having to prepare the diesel locomotive again. The procedure required putting the reverser into neutral and then removing the reverser handle. Except the game allowed me to remove the handle before it was properly in neutral. And that completely broke everything. I could not put the handle back in. I could not interact with the reverser anymore. Keyboard shortcuts did nothing. At that point you would think: fine, reload the checkpoint again. Nope. After this happened, I could no longer reload the same checkpoint. My only option was to restart the entire chapter — including all the coupling and uncoupling exercises I had already completed. So the game: allows you to put the locomotive into an impossible state, gives you no way to recover from it, and then makes you replay a significant part of the tutorial from scratch. Wonderful. There are also moments where the game simply tells you to wait for another train to clear a junction. Normally that would be completely fine. But after enough broken instructions and scripts, you stop trusting even perfectly normal objectives. You start wondering whether you really need to wait or whether yet another trigger has failed. And that is probably the biggest problem I have with Train Sim World 7: I don't trust the simulator. In a good simulator, when something doesn't work, my first thought should be: “I must have done something wrong. Let me learn the correct procedure.” In Train Sim World 7, after a couple of hours, my first thought became: “Did I do something wrong, or has the game broken again?” That completely destroys the experience. I can forgive complexity. I actually want to learn signalling, braking, safety systems, locomotive startup procedures and proper train operation. What I cannot forgive is a tutorial that doesn't show you the controls it is explaining, gives incomplete or contradictory instructions, mixes different control interfaces, leaves safety systems unexplained, breaks interactive cab controls if you deviate from its script, and can leave you in an unrecoverable state with no option except replaying the entire chapter. And then you open the in-game store and see trains, routes and locations costing €30–50 each. Maybe there is a good railway simulator underneath all of this. But before asking players to spend hundreds — potentially thousands — of euros on DLC, perhaps the basic game and its tutorials should be reliable enough to teach someone how to operate a train without constantly wondering whether the simulator itself has derailed. Not recommended in its current state.
GUI does not work and im stuck on basic keyboard controls and i cant change it even if i try it just wont do it for crying out loud FIX IT!
