Warum macht man solche Spiele?
A poor man's edgy Jazz Jackrabbit, Toxic Bunny was a bad game in 1996 and remains bad with updated graphics.

This game is absolutely awful. The controls are horrible. Controller support is terrible as well, as you can bind buttons in the configuration area, and then not even have them mapped correctly once you're in game. Analog stick support is bad as well, as the controls seem to get stuck in one direction. This does not happen in any other game, so I do not believe this is a problem with my xbox controller. Weapons do not function well, and the movement of your character only exacerbates that. The movement is very stiff, and non fluid. Your character awkwardly moves from position to position, and if this is a problem with vsync, well the options menu give you no option to turn that on or off. In fact, the graphics controls consist of low/medium/high, and only a choice of resolution. This game is not well done by any stretch, even the graphics are poor. By the way, an endlessly looping musical track that might be 6 seconds long? Stay away, stay VERY far away. There is nothing redeemable about this game. It reminded me of early 90s PC platformers, but even those were better made than this. Says $6 for this. I wouldn't even accept this as a free gift, it's THAT bad.
Short and fun janky little game. I enjoyed it despite its shortcomings. Kind of reminds me of Bubsy meets Earthworm Jim.
A few years ago, my brother in law let me try one of his games called Toxic Bunny. I thought it was okay but kind of hard. When I saw that it was getting a HD remake, I thought I’ll put it on my Wishlist backburner for a later time. And that time is now cause I felt like it. Pros: -It’s got a difficulty setting, which for a remaster version of a hard game should be encouraged. -The potion system has been redone. Instead of mixing whatever potions you find and using a guide or cheat sheet to get the one you want, you just find the recipes and they go into their own inventory for easy use. -The different weapons all have a good punch to and can be very handy depending on the area. And while you can only get ammo from shops, money is everywhere so you and the machine gun and ray gun have infinite ammo so you should be fine. -Really good map that shows the whole level so you don’t get lost. And there’s a list of objectives on screen at all times so you know what you should be doing. -Also, this might be the dev realising how bull crap some of the game could be but there are lives almost everywhere, especially at end game and if you die you just continue from where you are with no penalty. Unless that was your last life. Neutral: -I don’t think the journal was finalised correctly as in the story section, the prev button is covering some of the text and most of the enemy pictures don’t match with what you're fighting. -The art might be a bit subjective. While it’s not that dark and gritty, it can be a bit ugly for some. And the comic style pages between levels don’t really explain what’s happening well. -Also, why do we keep the machine gun instead of replacing it with the ray gun when enemies stop getting hurt by it. -Also, why is there no load button in the pause menu? Saving anywhere is fine but what if I wanted to see if I could do better without going back to the main menu. Cons: -The tutorial isn’t that great. Even after playing it, I didn’t understand how some things work like using weapons or how potions work or how swimming works. -While the potion system has been improved, the game doesn’t tell you the cost of using them and there is a cost. -The K-IT-TY fight was bullcrap due to the small and hazardous arena in the original and it’s still bull crap now. -While there is one real small underwater section, it’s one of the worst sections of the game as you can’t see a damn thing, filled to the brim with annoying enemies, you super slow and the underwater potion just resets your breathing so you have to keep using it to survive. -And if you’re an achievement hunter like me, well some achievements are broken like the spending a certain amount of money one, so tough luck. 6/10
Controls didn't work for me, keyboard or controller. I manually configured my controller and got it to work, but if I had not, I would have still thought this might be a good game. However, the jumping mechanic is broken. I know how tricky it can be to get a good jumping mechanic working, but this is nowhere near considered "passable". I think if the running and jumping mechanic was improved, this game would be a million times better. What I am saying is, this game could be fixed if the game devs are willing to work on the controls mechanic. This is a 24 FPS game that was ported to Unity and can run at 60 fps, but all the mechanics/animations/timing is still based on 24 FPS. Apparently the only purpose of this re-release from 1996, was to port it to Unity so that it would be playable on modern computers and increase the resolution. If you played this back in 1996 and now you want to play it today, I suppose this is great. If you never played the original and are trying to play it for the first time in 2022, it's pretty bad.
I was really hoping that I wouldn't have to leave a negative review for this game, but after less than a minute of clunkily trying to run around, with the game fighting me every step of the way, I've decided that I'm going to cash out before I can annoy myself any further. I'm just glad that I paid for this so that I don't have to feel bad about downloading the original online instead. To anyone who's considering buying this: DO NOT. While the game is not unplayable, the original release is MILES better than whatever this is. The only thing I have to say about this is that I appreciate whoever re-did the graphics, because they obviously put a lot of time and effort into it, even though I vastly prefer the old school look. Adding music and all the extra sound effects was really nice, but it all gets so overwhelming after a while that I honestly just prefer the stripped back SFX that the original game went with. I just feel like the devs did all they could to remove every last trace of charm that the original had to offer - even down to the little comic strip at the start. It feels like the people in charge of this remake put all the effort they could into deviating from what made the original game so fun and charming. The controls are unbelievably clunky, and you fight with Toxic's movements constantly. I loved the original game, but no amount of nostalgia will get me to wade through this. Again, if you're thinking of buying this, don't. Or if you really HAVE to - then I recommend buying it, and then downloading the original version from an abandonware site.
Tags: Platformer Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: Nineties style platformer remade but the experience has technical issues and flawed controls I had to restart the game a couple of times for inputs to get detected. Once they did manual configuration of Xbox360 pad worked. I still found the combat to be clunky, with a slow arc projectile that does little to no damage and even the smallest foes will tank upwards of 7 of them which drags the pacing down. Some jumps can only be executed while running for momentum but running speed is very fast and some platforms are very narrow making the whole platforming really painful. Sometimes the rabbit would fail to climb gentle slopes and get stuck or just move akwardly on uneven surfaces. I found it jarring that you cannot get hurt, or kill foes through physical contact and everything is handled with projectiles. Making ennemies just better bypassed by running past them.
The intro was great. But then, I went into the config options to change some things around. I changed the controls to better suit me. There's a lot of things to change. I start the game and I cannot move. ESC does not work. Nothing worked except Alt + Tab and Alt + F4. So I do that and change the controls to default to see if it worked. It did. I go play and the controls, as everyone said, kinda sucks. However, to me, it feels like all the other games like this. Though, jumping sucks in this game. I go back and forth trying to figure out what to do. Apparently, I wasn't supposed to kill some creature, I was supposed to drop an anchor on him or her. Since I didn't do that, I assume I could not go future until I restart the game and do that all over again. Which was right near the beginning. But I really did not feel like it. The first impression was not good to me. If this was one of my only games and I actually paid good money for it, I may have tried to play it for longer. However, since I forgot how much I bought this for through a bundle or however I got it, I did not care. It isn't as bad as all the other bad games. I will give it that. This received more negatives than most horrible games that received mix. Some reviews indicate that the controls suck and that it would make for bad jumping. yet, the user admit that it did not work on his keyboard or joypad. So.... I will assume, some of the reviews are just people who read the reviews and copied off of each other without putting their own thoughts into it.
