Inspired by the party games Werewolf and Mafia, Town of Salem is a game of murder, mystery and deception.

Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Got suspended for 3 days for writing "RIP Charlie Kirk" once in game chat. Since suspensions and bans are the same except a ban is for repeat offenders, this is a banable offense. Also the game is close to dead and tos2 is much worse
I thought I'd play a few rounds for nostalgia's sake but ranked games don't seem to work at all and the "Ranked Practice" lobbies are just unhappy people intentionally losing while tossing around slurs. Reporting doesn't seem to do anything. Playing against bots would be better. Edit: I played some more, still the same. I leave it on sometimes just as a sort of chat room where people kill each other but unfortunately it doesn't run very well on mac despite the simple 2D graphics. Animations freeze up entirely and I can't even type when anything is moving. Macbook M1 Pro with 64gb unified memory.

If you had asked me a good few years ago after this game came out, I would have recommended it 200%. Absolutely bonkers amount of fun, with fast games and a decent community who could strategize and feint you out. I have quite a few wins as all the roles, including the evil and neutral ones, just by having a good poker face and knowing what to say. Since the release of ToS2 though, which I feel was a failed attempt to get people re-invested (and to milk money) this game's community has now been split between those who remained on ToS1 and those who migrated to ToS2. Unfortunately, ToS1 nowadays is bordering on dead, even though there's a free version accessible through Discord activities. Lobbies take a solid few minutes to even get the 15 players to start, and every time there will be at least 1-3 players who disconnect immediately. Even Chaos - All Any is not much better, even though it seems to be the main mode nowadays. A lot of players I have played with over Discord have said the game is plagued by bots and the majority of the 18000-20000 players it claims are online are AFK or Bots, which does coincide with the fact is says only 30-40 actual matches are ongoing at a given time (40*15 = 6000, not even close to the 18000 it claims online). I would normally say it's an exaggeration, but here I believe it. Barely anyone talks in chat, and as soon as they get taken-out or lynched, they just disconnect. Even actual players don't seem to care about finishing-out matches now, probably because the monetisation is pushed incredibly hard, and the free currency you get is pitiful. What this leads to is roles like the Medium being completely useless, because you can't do anything, leading to incredibly dull games, where you'll want to just AFK/DC or tell one of the evils to get it over with, which just perpetuates the cycle. I have 60 hours on record, as I used to love this game so much, and had so much fun with it, but I played 3-4 games over Discord with a couple friends, then a bunch of bots/randos, and it was more tedious than it was fun.
Good game, the most horrid community to accompany it. Imagine tryharding in town of salem
Town of Salem has devolved into a cesspool of unrestrained bigotry, and its report system is an absolute farce. I’ve been playing and reporting racists since 2014, only to be mocked and harassed with zero consequences for those spewing hateful filth! It’s sickening that a game supposedly built on community interaction can’t be bothered to protect Black/ir any form of players—or any kind of ideology—from vile, repetitive hate speech. The developers clearly don’t give a damn about accountability; they’d rather ignore the problem than ban the worst offenders. If you’re thinking of playing, don’t. Save yourself the heartache of being relentlessly targeted because the creators can’t be bothered to enforce their own rules. Town of Salem is the last place anyone who values basic human decency should spend their time or money.
The game as a whole is fun however it is currently suffering from the fact that it's over 10 years old and depending on the time of the day can have anywhere from 20 to 300 players. The system says 4000+ however 8/10 times I will stumble upon the same exact group of people for hours with little to no variety. That is fine however some of the players are quite toxic and are there to just wreak havoc by throwing games on purpose or by harassing people and while there is a reporting system it feels as if there is 1 person keeping an eye on things and they are trying to catch up on sleep and by the time they ban those players they have made new accounts and are back at it again. The reason I am recommending this is because the game is fun. However I do advise you take the time to read up on how the game is played since you don't exactly get a tutorial.
Players don't play properly. They just vote out literally anyone they pick randomly. If you are mafia, you can win without doing anything. The chat is overrun with players using vulgar language, and it seems like reports do nothing. Wouldn't recommend getting this game.
I've owned this game since launch, before the game was Free to Play. I paid money for this. I have played over 500 games, and my account was banned for having an inappropriate name. No review, no appeal, just arbitrary banning. All my scrolls lost. All my progression.
It's really fun, a great social game! I just wish it was more popular. I feel like the only folks who play this game nowadays are people who played the browser version back when they were in high school.
got banned for joking in the chat , the devs are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
