About

The latest sensation to hit Gensokyo, Volleyball, but this isn't an ordinary game.
The skies are your court as you pick a team of two of your favorite Touhou characters. The pressure is on as you must not only keep the ball in play but avoid the bullets coming your way, all while countering with your own special attacks.
Panic strikes Gensokyo as everyone wakes up to find their powers missing, including our resident incident solvers, Reimu and Marisa. But when Sakuya appears before them, a great revelation is made. A strange orb has appeared in Gensokyo with the power to take away and grant abilities as it sees fit. Our heroines are on another case to challenge their friends in this new sport that has taken Gensokyo by storm.

I don't play sports games at all, but since it was a gift I decided to try it. I did find it very fun and learning the mechanics was easy. I do suggest changing the inputs to control your character. Aside from that, it is really challenging, each characters have their own special attack. I can actually see myself playing this type of game for a while.
It's Volleyball, but Touhou!
Ever since Compact Youmu announced this game, I was looking forward to playing it. Back when the game first released, it was rough around the edges. I couldn't even run the game with my PC back then, but after the 1.100 update, My PC can now run the game perfectly fine. It also plays nicely on the Steam Deck. It has the artstyle and charm of Compact Youmu's Youtube fan parody skits of the Touhou series Gameplay-wise, I think the combination of Touhou's bullet hell with Volleyball was well-implemented. Much like the actual sport, your goal is to hit the ball towards your opponent's side of the court until they drop the ball; however, each side is protected by walls that you may need to destroy with your volleyball, and players can freely shoot projectiles, bombs, or their desperation attack to eliminate one another until the next volley. If you hold the 'ball' button while holding a direction before touching the ball, you can spike the ball, send it upwards, allowing you to set up the spike, or dump the ball depending on the direction you're holding Many of the characters from the Touhou series play uniquely from one another. Marisa is well-rounded but likes to flood the field with stars and is good at dumping the ball in order to score against players staying too far back. Yuugi has slower movement, but can perform the strongest spikes in the game, making her good at wall-breaking. Aya, on the other hand doesn't have as powerful spikes, but is the fastest character in the game. Youmu is a technical character who can control her ghost half while charging her sword slash, allowing her to block the ball or line it up for her to hit it as desired. Cirno and Suika are my personal favorites to play, but it's fun to play everyone in this game, since they all can hit the ball at different angles from one another, and their various attacks provide a lot depth for learn about the game. The story mode is simple. You're in a volleyball tournament, and your goal for the first round is to win matches to earn 100 points to qualify towards the 2nd round where you play against the top 6 players (yourself included), and face off against Remilia and Sakuya in the finals. The first round can be rather tedious since you earn 2 points per victory by default, and losing a match risks lose a point; however, you can speed up the process by wagering for more points, and clearing mini-games as they appear, so it's not so bad as long as you have the patience for it. Back to the recent 1.100 update, they fixed major issues like crashes on certain hardware, did some character balancing, added arcade mode, more fun minigames, and even online multiplayer. The main menu UI was changed to accommodate these new additions, but the design was confusing at first. There's still a few bugs I discovered at the time of this post, but considering this is all developed by a single person, the game is still impressive, and I trust he'll fix them up thoroughly given how much has been improved from the initial release.
Overall, I give this game an 8.5/10!
It's not a perfect game, but it's a fun game for its cost If you're interested in this game, then I suggest you give it a shot. It didn't cost me much ($10 is the base price), but what it provides has been well worth it to me, and I can easily enjoy this game on the go. If you do run into issues, don't be afraid to let Compact Youmu know, because he'll make sure to address them.
Some of your favorite Touhou heartthrobs (understood as 'waifus') playing volleyball! Since I'm madly in love with most of the girls in Touhou (and ALL of the ones in this game happen to be ones I have crushes on) I especially like this.
This game has me hooked! the gameplay is fast pasted and exhilarating. This game was made with so much time and care, from the hand drawn animations and the main story. The replayability is great too i just finished Reimus campaign and it took me an hour to really get the controls down but once you do its a blast to play! i hope the game continues to grow. as for a suggestion i suggest to compromise with the keystones. it is a neat idea to have obstacles on the field, but they take about 4 hits to shatter and when there's around 7 of them on screen it doesnt become hectic as would be expected it becomes unplayable. i also came across a glitch that freezes your player for the next match. When you use your desperation ability when the ball goes off screen and the next match starts your character will be frozen for the entire next match. wonderful game compact! ill be playing for a while thank you for such a fun game!
One of the best arcade sports games of all time!!!!!!
just to support compact youmu i like your videos maybe i could make the Chinese mod for your game and promote it to more people on BilBil
