Top Villain: Total Domination

The original title of this was Saturday Morning Villain, which I think conveys the appropriate mindset going in. You're a villain from a saturday morning cartoon for kids, there's no Fallen Hero angst here. You also have almost no real control over how the story goes. E.g. you have ice powers or fire powers or no powers, and those add flavor to things. Similarly, you select what uniforms your henchpeople wear, and what they call themselves, but those decisions matter about as much as selecting your eye color and gender. That all said, it's entertaining. I wouldn't call the humor funny, but it's amusing. If you're interested in this for the romance subplots, give it a miss. You have like four scenes total with the ROs and each are about two pages long. I liked it. Not a lot of replay value, but I got my $4 of entertainment.

This is.. ok? Very.. very short. Never quite feels like there's growth, or connection, or accomplishment. Certainly campy which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Its ok, villains is always a fun genre, and I'm happy that it has a poly options. But beyond that it doesn't particularly stand out as-is. But really, its ok, wish Steam had a 'maybe' button... There are just better games in the genre, in hosted games, that I'd certainly recommend first, with 'more depth'.

Not a long read, most choices are flavor over substance (not always a bad thing), just accept that you are along for the journey and your choices do not effect too much of the plot. That said, it is well written, cute and funny. I say give it a go!

Funny, short, doesn't take itself too serious, lot of call backs to TV shows and popular culture here and there, goes off on some truly random tangents at times, choices didn't seem to matter all that much your basically along for the journey more than anything else. I went out of my way to go counter to the story as much as I could just picking the most amusing options more often than not to see what I could get away with, the stats didn't seem to impact much for example my dooms day weapon, the work in progress ray never got past 36% completion but still managed to work just fine despite me never committing to what it was suppose to do.

An amusing enough story but too much woke crap. Only buy if your are bored out of your mind and need a distraction.

Is it laugh out loud funny? No, mostly it's sharply exhale funny. But every now and then it makes me actually laugh. Plotwise? Who cares. You're buying this cause you want a goofy and silly adventure. Not an actual plot. Quite frankly, this dialogue exchange sums up the whole game to me. "Do you really think you could make every country swear fealty to a new leader?" "Yes," you say. "It's supposed to be really easy. My mom and dad say so."

My favorite part of playing Choice of Games games is being amused at how bad they usually are. I've gone from buying these titles looking for a good one, to buying these titles hoping its even more atrocious than the last. Unfortunately, Top Villain isn't that bad because the story and concepts seem stol... let's say... heavily influenced... by themes already explored thoroughly by the Venture Bros series. Honestly, the whole thing has a very Adult Swim vibe, with Robot Chicken levels of Gen X humor. So, if that's something you'd be interested in, give it a try. That really wasn't enough for me to give it a thumbs up, but I am doing so anyway because I got a true laugh out of the hideously solipsistic romance option. Choice of Games titles could benefit by permitting more of these dark, unhealthy pathways handled with a kind of "let the player burn it all down" acceptance.
