Tonight, I Die in My Sleep Review

Dreams, Hopes and Anguish

This game feels like diving in a nihilist poem from Eastern Europe literature. It's a hit or miss, so keep reading the review to know more. Disclaimer: Do not play if you are feeling depressed
About This Game

Storyline
You are a stage performer and you find yourself in a kind of dream that actually feels like a nightmare. Not one with monsters, but one with philosophical and existencial questions that lead you to analyze your character's and your own life.
Gameplay Mechanics
It's a first person artistic game with great graphics (bear in mind the art style chosen). You follow the paths and the story, making choices of what you want to know about your past and yourself. It takes about 0.9h to finish one playthrough. At first you might suppose there are multiple endings, but the choices change nothing, you just get a one sentence comment for your choice.
Visuals & Audio
It’s an artistic game set in Eastern Europe. The graphics are made to remsemble old school first person games. They convey the atmosphere very well and are nicely done given the artistic choice. The music is great. It's classical music that matches such a nihilistic exposition.

Pros
• Artistic game. • Nice storytelling conveying philosophical questions. • Sets the atmosphere really well.

Cons
• The choices do not matter, so there is basically no replay value. It could be an opportunity to dive deeper into the story beyond surface level. • Does not allow players to skip the story parts even after the first playthrough. It's not fun to hear everything again and again just to get the extra comment for each choice. • There are different settings, but movement sensitivity was not on point. More options of sensitivity should resolve this. • Should allow players to see and choose story paths after 1 completion. This way it's easier to see them all and enjoy the game in full.

Conclusion
This game is a hit or miss. For me it was a hit and I really enjoyed my experience in the first playthrough. All the other playthroughs were derivative and not worth it. There are minor flaws and things to be improved. I wouldn't recommend to anyone feeling down or depressed too. So enjoy with caution. An ok walking sim that sets you in various paths that shape the story (kind of) based on your choices, though ultimately leading to the same conclusion. A few spots open up on a second playthrough, but they don't offer much else, really. I say grab this on sale if you dig short narrative driven titles, but be prepared to turn down the narrator. ;)
Decent about 30 minutes long adventure walking sim about peotry I.
beautiful
An experimental indie game that despite its simplicity and brevity feels very honest and vulnerable. Recommended for those who like artistic games that play with the format and leave you with more questions than answers.
Warto choćby dla samego soundtracku
Can't skip dialogues, truly captivating.
