2 Minute Video Review → https://youtu.be/ZRRxw5QNTCs Tis the season for Christmas games to arrive. Tippy Tree is a casual balancing game where you place ornaments on a Christmas tree, but the tree is extremely tipsy (possibly from too much eggnog) and the slightest shift in balance from the ornaments can send the tree falling to it’s doom. You need to place all of the ornaments on the tree. Once they’re all on, you can finish with the star on top. The game will check for a moment that the balance is good, then you can move onto the next level. You can rotate around the tree, and also extend your hands for easier reaching. While playing you can pick up presents that appear, get enough presents and you can unlock special ornaments for variety. I think this game would especially shine as a party game with people taking turns and watching. It’s a casual challenge that’s priced just right at $2.
So I'm in the Holiday spirit so I decide to go ahead and play this Tippy Tree game with the family. What better way to spread that Chrismas joy than spending some quality time with those closest and dearest. We're having fun and everything is going great. You put these ornaments on the trees and they bend all around in a balancing act capped with a star on top. All is swell until I get to level 10. That's when no matter what I do that damn white tinsel tree keeps going into a death spiral. Once that death spiral starts, there's no stopping it from tipping. I remember it's Christmas and that I should be patient, but that damn tree keeps falling to the ground. No matter what I do it keeps falling over and over and over again. I get upset and start yelling. The kids start crying. My wife tells me to calm down. But there is no calming down. That mothereffing white tinsel tree better balance the ornaments or there's gonna be a real war in Christmas. I start to rage. I rage and I roar and cables start getting ripped. I go on a furious ramapage leaving a wake of silicon destruction. My wife left with the kids. Now I'm left all alone to ponder my actions ... hrmm ... best $2 I ever spent on Steam. Rate 7/10
A fun cheap holiday game. Well worth the 2 bucks I spent on it
This is a cute, festive game. It really helped me get in the Christmas spirit, especially since I haven't actually even put my own tree up at home. Mostly the mechanics work well; I like how you can extend your hand and rotate around the tree. It definitely gets insanely harder once you reach the white tree, and have medium/heavy ornaments, but I like a challenge. I like the addition of the special ornaments you get, that also serve as an ad for the developer's other games. I guess the only negative is sometimes it seems like the tree gets stuck in a static position, and no matter what ornament I placed it never tipped over. This happened a couple of times, but most recently was after I failed one of the white tree levels several times. Maybe it was a glitch, or maybe the game was taking pity on me. Can't really go wrong for $1.99. It's a pleasant, casual game with a crackling fire and jolly music to get you in the holiday spirit while you will your tree to stay upright. I've been mistakenly calling it Tipsy Tree, which I think works too.
Woah go home 🎄 Tippy Tree - you’re drunk! Picked this one up expecting a super light 10-15 minutes of casual holiday-themed fun... but then ended-up spending 10x as long in the game. Unexpectedly addictive and complex given it’s simplicity. It’s unlikely to win any game-of-the-year-awards but for some casual holiday-themed VR fun - it’s perfect! Recommended.
This is a great little game, tons of value for the price!
+Balancing game not used +Somewhat fun +/- Pricey for meh gameplay -Bad physics -bad mechanics -Horrible controls 2/5 Good concept, however the physics/tippyness are horribly executed, with this type of game you want at least somewhat realistic physics, and much better controls. Tippy trree is a Family Friendly Christmas VR title that you should consider only if you are looking to have a bit of fun. https://youtu.be/WRUCAt825Rk Whilst the concept is excellent, the graphics are acceptable and the music is AWESOME! <-- Well pretty good anyway, there are few issues with this game which could so easily be fixed if only the developers would listen and implement solutions.
POSITIVES
* Fun (mostly) * Unique & excellent game idea * Family Friendly * Great Festive Music * Decent progression and difficulty (mostly)
NEGATIVES
- The physics are woeful; the tree goes from stable to uncontrollably unbalanced with no warning at all - Very little if any feedback (the arrow is a poor design - solution added below)
SUGGESTIONS
1) Improve the physics, at the moment the tree falls in blocks and not gradually, this means resolving instability is almost impossible once you pass level 5. 2) Add a circle on the ceiling with a dot indicating the centre of the tree...this way we can look up and see how we have altered and where the centre of balance is (much better than the arrow - which is poor). 3) Allow us to skip a bauble (you can hold onto a bauble which is the same thing) in easy mode.
CONCLUSION
I got a fair way through the game levels on normal mode (no chance I am trying hard mode), but found it impossible and VERY Frustrating that the tree would just suddenly go, and there seemed to be NOTHING I could do to stop it once it had lost balance. Often it would spin when I tried to counterbalance and then it is game over. Adding some of the solutions mentioned above would instantly make this game excellent, because the game idea, the delivery and the entire premise is REALLY GOOD. Just a shame it is so frustrating as soon as you progress past level 5. Well worth a go for family fun at XMAS if you have just bought a VR device, but could so easily be so much better than it currently is. That being said it is less than £1 in sale and just £1.69 Full Price...so for that money it's def not going to break the bank, just a shame this excellent idea wasn't fully fleshed out... Here's Hoping for a patch developers please??? ;-)
(Vive) Oooooof.... interesting idea but the controls don't feel too good. I doubt I'll come back to it. I definitely enjoy their snow fortress game more.
