Tried to give this game a second chance years after I set down initially and it won't launch now.

Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5) Timeless arcade entertainment. A window into how video games were before hyper realism took over. There is a campaign with a story but that's not the point, the goal here is to blow things up. Still not sure how damage or points are calculated nor do I need to know, too busy blasting through the heavy metal mayhem and having mindless fun. Worth at full price.

If you grew up playing Desert Strike or Jungle Strike on the Genesis and have been chasing that high ever since, Thunder Wolves scratches that itch in the most gloriously dumb way possible — just pick a helicopter, fly into a warzone, and blow absolutely everything up. The arcade-style gameplay is unapologetically shallow, but the controls are snappy, the hard rock soundtrack fits perfectly, and the over-the-top voice acting from your wisecracking crew had me grinning through all 13 missions. Fair warning: the campaign clocks in at only about 3-4 hours, and the gameplay loop of 'fly to point, destroy everything, repeat' does get repetitive by the end. I also hit some frustrating launch issues getting it to run, which seem to affect a number of players on newer systems, so check the forums before buying if you're on Windows 11. That said, when it works, it's a great cheap thrill — just don't expect anything deeper than a kiddie pool and you'll have a blast.

A simple, arcade-style helicopter shooter. The only thing that takes some getting used to is controlling altitude with LS/RS. But why worry about altitude when you can just shoot? It’s definitely fun and perfect for a quick play session.

What a great,fun little title! Put me in mind of a cross between Just Cause destruction and the 'back in the day' game Desert Strike. All for just over £1 in the current Steam Summer Sale. Bargain! Tbh would recommend game even if not on sale, it's that much fun. I miss titles like this nowadays. Played on Steam Deck
