Throwback

Throwback is an Early Access VR game that is a re-imagining of the arcade game Paperboy. It worked on my Index system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. Has mini games that you can also play. Can be challenging. Looks like it has long play value. Has a tutorial and instruction. Best played Seated, no movement required. Maybe buy this game, if you like on-rails VR shooters and the arcade game Paperboy. I got a free key for this from the Steam Curator program. As a Zennial, this game has been a wonderful joy to visit. It originally caught my attention as reviving the paperboy NES concept that I grew up loving to play with my family. This hits the mark on a fun arcade like adventure! There is new things to discover each run, discovering new techniques, or point collecctions, or just level of detail as this is an on the Rail game. Perfect for those that want to start out in VR, as it is best while sitting, and just tossing the newspaper where it needs (and doesnt need) to go. For those more experienced in VR, this is easy to jump into, give you a great sense of accomplishment right off the bat, but just enough to get you cocky enough to thing the next run will be better, till you realize the first was just a fluke leading you up a learning curve trying to beat your last score. With what is expected on the Roadmap, I cant wait to knock over my buddies and race them to the end and beat their buts as the BEST PAPER BOY THERE IS!

I would give this game a middling grade but since I refunded the game myself, I can't recommend it. It is definitely made for someone with good reflexes and stamina more so than I could ever possibly have. It will give you a decent workout with the constant throwing of papers and grabbing various items. My problem is that it lacks any sort of rhythm to the game. Targets are scattershot and way too many for any kind of pattern. The music is terrible so much so that I turned it way way down. This would make for a great Quest standalone game. I think there is an audience for it. Too bad it is stuck in Steam land where only a few people will see it and pick it up. If the game had more of a pattern/rhythm then I would recommend it. But if you enjoy flailing your arms about tossing virtual papers around, then this is your game. If you looking for more of a music rhythm game, look elsewhere.

Jump back to the 90s and slap in that copy of Paperboy and sit in front of that TV for some fun. That is what Throwback is, a trip back to those amazing days, now in VR. The game is a rail shooter, where you are on a BMX style bike delivering your papers. You are armed with a gun that shoots news papers, phone books, and of course news papers. You will go through a bunch of different maps, with a sweet look. Its a 90s retro worlds meets a Pixar sci-fi world thing, lol. You have to see it. The game is got your target mail boxes to hit, secrets, robot targets, and tons more to try and hit in your run. Lots of replay value in each run. Just like in the 90s, grinding a stage to perfection. One thing I would of love to see is interaction with the people during a run. Bonk some one in the head with a paper, they drop some sort of power up. That sort of thing. This game really brought me back to the old 8bit days. Be it on a Sega or Nintendo sitting in front of the TV. The gameplay felt great, and was simple to pickup. I even played it sitting on my floor, lol. Try this game out for sure you 90s gamers.
