STOP KILLING GAMES BOYCOTT COTW
SO SAD :( :( I discovered the game in early 2026, and in just 4–5 months, I’ve logged over 700 hours of playtime. Friends introduced me to it, and it became a way for us to unwind after work and liven up those cold winter days. Every day brought something that made us laugh out loud—moments we’d keep talking about for months afterward. We eagerly awaited the winter so we could spend hours hunting again and splashing out on various weapons. Through the game, I also made many international friends with whom I still stay in touch. Just today, I showed the game to my cousin; he loved it and was ready to download it and spend a few dollars on a nice weapon. But then, shortly after he got home, I heard the news that the game was shutting down; I immediately called my friends, and together we "mourned" the loss while sharing stories about our most interesting and funny moments. WE ARE GONNA MISS YOU THE HUNTER CLASSIC :( :(
What a Joke! Absolutely disgraceful way to treat the players who supported this game for years. TheHunter Classic gets removed from Steam after people spent countless hours and real money on it, and now it feels like the community was simply thrown away. Years of support, purchases, and loyalty apparently meant nothing. This isn’t how you treat the players who kept your game alive. Extremely disappointing and honestly feels like a slap in the face to everyone who supported Classic. And now the excuse is basically, “Here’s the new Call of the Wild for free Absolutely pathetic.
Yet another victim of the dominating SaaS scam. If you've ever spent money on this game, I pity you. You absolutely don't deserve to be f§cked over by yet another corporation, but, well, you had it coming. Føck corporations! No exceptions.
Stop Killing Games F**k Expansive Worlds. F**ked over players who spent money on this game. "we can't make it offline" Bullsh*t and you know it. Yall are just lazy and don't care It's f**k yall forever
WHAT A LOAD OF HORSE CRAP!!! WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!! A whole community of loyal players thrown away! Ugly crying over this stupid ♥♥♥♥, No person who actually enjoys hunting will play that POS arcade game!!!!!! Nothing but greed anymore the reputation thrown away and stomped but OH YAY couple more months?! Thanks for absolutely nothing, and you know nobody would be this peed off if we could actually play still BUT NOOOO its gone for GOOD! Seriously who would even trust this company anymore they'll do the same to COTW.
Hands down the best hunting game, and I've tried the mainstream ones. Way of the Hunter, Call of the Wild, WOTH 2 (when in testing) and they can't hold a candle to this. This was what inspired me to become an active sportsman and conservationist. Without it, I would have never discovered how beautiful hunting is. It's the most realistic hunting game ever released. Sure, it may not technically be as high fidelity as the other games, but it has the best graphics. Seeing the sunrise on Timbergold Trails genuinely is so beautiful. The most beautiful hunting game maps ever made, diverse but not so much so that it feels small and cluttered with wildly different areas (ahem Way of the Hunter). Bird hunting is well done, unlike COTW's upland birds and WOTH's waterfowl. It's well rounded. Still the only game with a truly arctic map as far as I'm aware as well. I wish I got to get a dog, that's what I was saving for an a quarter there. I love wetlands so naturally I love waterfowl hunting, and that's what I really wanted to do. No other game has a swamp map like Rougarou Bayou and I doubt any game will. I'm gonna miss it, and I really wish Avalanche you take their head out of their ass and not follow through on this shut down. They make enough off of COTW. School of Dragons was an online only game that was shut down, yet it has a community of well over 130k players keeping it alive well after the official servers shut down. Why can the Classic devs not allow this? I know they said they can't, but is that true or is that it'd be too hard? Avalanche has a bad track record at this point, with shutting down The Angler but afaik that's playable offline still. I can't play WOTH2 due to my PC, COTW is boring, buggy, and very shallow, not in depth at all. WOTH1 is abandoned, and unoptimized. This was my favorite game, the mechanics, the sound, the visuals, the feel. There will never be another like it.
The 17 year old game is getting shut down because some higher ups couldn't cope with paying someone to make an offline version, shame. Your account and anything you've purchased will be deleted when the game shuts down, there are some ways to download your progress but all of this shouldn't be necessary at all, they've killed a small dedicated playerbase for 2 pennies of extra profit.
Rip theHunter Classic.
