About
While this world may lack the normal human problems of hunger, fatigue, and death, it's not without its own set of issues. The world's inhabitants, Zens, constantly fight and bicker, forming clubs and factions as they strive against each other for wealth, power, and influence. The worst of these is The Engineer, a madwoman hidden away in the distant Sky Castle, who stirs up conflict with her army of Constructs, noisy mechanical beings that belch smoke and keep everyone from getting any rest.
Arm yourself against The Engineer's machinations by leveling 8 character classes with distinct abilities as you fight your way through both her Constructs and the natural inhabitants of the world, Abstractimals. Gain new powers through hundreds of weapons, armor, pets, artifacts, and consumable items. Make friends and gather Companions to buff yourself as you head toward Sky Castle and your final showdown with The Engineer.

With a callback to side-scrolling platform fighting in a similar vein of Maple Story, this single player game takes things in a different direction artistically. Rather than try to appeal to a manga/anime style of design, Theden appears as cuts of paper formed together to create what seems to be almost all the art assets in the game. No AI here! The classes take a page from Secret of Evermore, a cult classic on the SNES. Each is afforded multiple unique skills that require crafting material to use. Fortunately, you aren't limited to just 99 of these in your bag, and they are found plentiful throughout the game from defeated enemies and unwanted loot. Initially I thought I'd need to use these sparingly, but I was quickly overflowing with these paper scraps and unable to carry more, so I promptly changed tunes on how often I used them. I've played enough to get the first two classes to maximum level by now, but to further increase in growth one must up the dynamic difficulty from the default easy to at least hard. This change is as easy as pressing a button, no need to delve into menus. In doing so the game does put up a challenge, and each of your loadouts are useful in a variety of situations. Sticking some boxes around enemies only to watch them faint as they run into them is quite amusing. You are able to equip each of your classes with a unique loadout of gear and weaponry to assist in your fight, and I've found many items that belong to a set to further grant you bonuses. Overall, I'm quite impressed by this game, and I hope to see it progress further!

I didn't really know what to expect from this game. I'm not a big gamer or anything, but the trailer looked interesting enough. I really like the look of the game. It's like craft paper looking. Seems like it took a lot of time to create it. I always appreciate that. It's really easy to jump into. Like I said, I don't play tons of games, but this was easy to get a hang of the controls and I liked all the different options you get for character creation as well as different things within the game. I also like the game's animations when you do different actions. lol. I think the creatures are cute and creative. The whole game is actually really creative. The vibe is even kinda cozy feeling. The music and the visuals just make it nice to play. If you're scrolling through Steam looking to play something interesting and fun then I definitely suggest giving this game a try.
Very unique game with a distinct aesthetic. You can tell a lot of effort was made to infuse the game with character - from the construction paper design to the silly puns with every enemy's name. The gameplay does require spending time fighting waves of enemies to level up and get drops, but I think those who it appeals to will find the equipment collecting and class swapping to be satisfying. I like the music tracks I have heard, and I hope to hear a lot more as development continues. I look forward to seeing more classes as more chapters are released.
A fun 2D side scrolling hand crafted game where you can run around to do quests, kill enemies, collect items, and get gear which may be better for one class vs another. You can switch your class (gear is equipped per class) with the number keys to do different things as you explore the zones and kill enemies in different ways. You can also change the difficulty on the fly to test out your gear/damage/weapon and find out what class/weapon you like best as you roam around and collect items for the people of the world in need of your help. I’ve only played a bit, but Theden definitely scratches that itch of a game where you want to find out more of the story, kill enemies, do quests, and find more gear in hopes of progressing your character and the classes you can switch between to become stronger and see the damage numbers go up.
Why am I here and why am I paper?! If you enjoy unique stylized games with a story and some grinding you'll enjoy Theden. I love the cute creatures I've been encountering. Currently Leveling up and trying to max out my stats and having fun doing missions for npcs. If I had one request for future updates, I wish to become a Crab(Scrabble). Looking forward to the additional Chapters.
I love the paper world of Theden! I have been using the Engineer and Conductor Classes. The "Squahare" enemies are SUPER cute and I love the sounds the enemies make. Music is relaxing and reminds me of Minecraft. I am having fun so far and cant wait for updates!
Theden is an imaginative and extremely unique indie gem filled with passion, creativity, and detail! It has a strong sense of style and individuality that promises to only grow deeper as more content is added through Early Access. Even at this early point, it's filled with so much interesting and varied content to be an enjoyable and compelling RPG for hours, and its world can only grow from here. * Great depth, diversity, and choice with the items and equipment. * The action is relaxed and approachable, but satisfying. * Charming and cohesive visual style. * Lovely and peaceful music! * Really feels like a labor of love and vision.
This game is pretty great, 10/10. Fun to collect, upgrade and figure out!
A nice simple side scrolling type of game with lots of play ability. you can play as 8 classes switching freely between classes. there are quests and crafting. and places to explore. Great for just passing time and having fun.
