Absolute recommend. For a free game I got around 5 hours of actual playtime out of it (and I did not complete all side quests and character quests). Best part of the game was the characters, they all had backgrounds and pasts that made you actually care about your companions. I only experienced two small bugs (a certain mushroom character can basically stun spore you and attack you from full to zero if unlucky lol, which really sucks if you forget to save for a while because there is no autosave feature). The game is quite easy and I do wish there was harder difficulties or modes, but for a storytelling little rpg game, it was quite fun and has a lot of little details like talking to certain out of the way npcs for cool bonus items. Overall, game was a nice surprise especially for a free game.

Basicamente, The Throne of Bernicia é um jogo mediano e que explora pouco o potencial do RPG Maker MV, mas tá de bom tamanho pra algo gratuito.
This was a wonderful game (and it was totally free). The characters changed expressions that coincided with the dialogue (like smiles, closed eyes, wide-eyed looks) and you could see them immediately, just like they were real people. It had a good amount of side quests. You had choices on what your responses could be and most of the time your responses would result in different outcomes. The story was well written and the dungeons were not all the same. It was not predictable so several times I was surprised with what happened. The battles had different backgrounds. There was comedy as well as drama. The ending allowed you to interact in the hero celebration. It was rather lengthy because you had to speak with about 35 people before the game progressed to telling you how long the feast lasted and then the credits. Although I recognized several of the enemies from various games, I thought oh I've seen that character before, but they were so varied you could not identify from which game. And I loved the fact that it wasn't laced with sex and bad language. Try it, you'll like it. The one thing I didn't like was not being able to go back to a dungeon once you beat the boss. That means if you didn't finish a side quest, you weren't able to go back and resolve it. Thumbs up to the creator/developer.
RPG Maker strikes again! The Throne of Bernicia is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. This is a painfully generic RPG Maker asset flip with an equally painful high school anime club dropout fan-fiction fantasy plot from some kid who watched too much anime and thought RPG Maker would allow him to tell his imaginary girlfriend that he's a game developer. As with all RPG Maker games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer. The point can be made that the intention of RPG Maker is to make demos and small games to pass around friends, and shouldn't be used for "professional" game development. Like most RPG Maker shovelware and asset flips, the game features extremely low quality copy + pasted 2D retro pixel art, looks awful, and has even worse gameplay. RPG Maker is an absolutely terrible construction kit, and never results in games of any reasonable quality or value to gamers. This is "free" enough, at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 8 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. While this didn't cost me any money up front, I still feel ripped off.
I was looking for a random Indie JRPG to play, and happened to find this one yesterday. It's absolutely free, without ads or in game purchases! I've already beaten this game. While I wish a screen with controls would have been useful, it wasn't too difficult to figure out. Use Z to select, X for back (or menu), arrow keys to move. There are some other buttons, that are repetitive to these, but this felt the most natural. It has some typo errors, but nothing over the top. The biggest bug I encountered is that Ghosts do not give experience or gold. There is end game gold exploit, but honestly at that point it didn't matter for me. There are also 2-4 chat screens with an error for the speaker portrait and naming. This all being said, this was absolutely a fantastic game. I missed two of the side quests (you have to complete them before finishing an area), but enjoyed everything this game had to offer. I was a little confused on starting the first quest and getting past the bandits, but when I stumbled my way into the camp I found that I was already enjoying this gem. I rarely have much time off, and I spent quite a bit of it over the past two days grinding this game out. The story was the usual, but in a great way. I like the combat system and that the hero is sort of a "Red/Mage". It would be great if after beating that game you could grind the end areas to level up as much as possible, as I'm just personally curious as to the highest level. I finished this at level 43, and had a blast the whole time. Thanks for making such a great game!
I don't have a single reason to play along with the stupid rules of gender ideology by picking my pronouns. That's terribly marxist indeed!
I mean, for a free RPG Maker game, this one knocks it out of the park. Only complaint is its short length and the lack of diversity in the enemies/mobs, but realistically given the scope of the game it over delivers anyway. Hopefully the developer tries something more ambitious next time. Great game.
This game gets my full recommendation. Thank you for giviung us a nice game.
Before I played The Throne of Bernicia, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
