I've nearly completed the game now and feel that I should be able to offer some relevant observations. Maybe I'm just a sucker for dogs, but I've actually found that the Laika character and her interactions/observations are what have driven me to complete the game. Pros: - Laika, reasonably well written story and interactions - Upgrade system - Combat system - Platforming - Art style and UI Cons: - Lack of variety in quests, lots of fetch quests - It's easy to get lost in the vastness of the areas, the map works, but unless you're from the old school and played the original Doom, etc., with old style automaps, it'll be quite confusing Overall, I'd give it 75-80%, it's been an enjoyable distraction.

Neat looking cutscenes
Neat looking UI
Not so great looking artwork
Many platforms can get easily confused with the background/foreground and vice versa
Pretty badly animated models
Constantly having to check the map on where to go
The map itself can get very confusing to use
Gameplay felt heavily lacking
Buttload of boring side quests
Main quests involve much strenous exploration
Not so stellar combat up against ground enemies.
I could not find this game any fun overall. Both side and main quests were just the most uninteresting and unappealing parts of this game and I just couldn't really be motivated to keep going with this game going from one long & boring exploration from one objective to an another and even more unmotivated because the actual shooting or combat or whatever just started to feel boring. Reminder: Don't just ignore Greenlight games you don't like, downvote them.
TL;DR
If it's on sale and you have money to blow, feel free to try it out. Otherwise, don't bother buying it at full price.
The Definition of Average
An unspectacular entry. The map system is incredibly complicated to navigate, many design choices are inconsistent (everything in-game is cartoon-like, but the map is 3D and the upgrade system is future-tech?), and the gameplay just isn't interesting enough to draw the player in. While the story is okay, the slog to get through it simply isn't worth the time. The Sun at Night is worth playing for the story alone. The world and characters are nicely done. The alternative history setting is great. Other parts of the game are not so wonderful though. Art is all over the place: the propaganda posters and most of the environment art is great, while characters, monsters and character portraits leave much to be desired. As do animation, combat, platforming, enemy AI and bosses. But! Despite of the flaws I really enjoyed the game. Levels are enormous and for the most part are really fun to explore. Laika is adorable and character customization system is surprisingly good. I wish the devs would go full metroidvania with this though and tie exploration to various upgrades of Laika's suit. I shall definitely be looking forward for the sequel.
https://youtu.be/win_uk9Xp7g Laika the space dog gets caught up in a complicated and very verbose conflict. The setting and core gameplay choices are sound but the implementation is rough at all the corners. Laika's movement is quick and responsive but the platforms lack contrast at time making vertical movement confusing at times. Twin stick shooting feels a loose while the health/shield mechanic is fiddly with the active toggle. That said, pacing is the major issue with the game. Major plot elements are told in tiny two line chat windows and interspersed with a large number of minor quests that feel like busy work.
Pros: +The controls work great with mouse+keyboard. They don't feel sloppy or loose at all. +Charming art. +Many upgrades to customize your character. +Large Levels to explore. +Serviceable Map. +Optional side quests . +Most enemies don't respawn so exploring isn't a pain. Cons: -It's rather short.(Rushing though, just following the main objective and ignoring side quests I finished in about 6 hours) -It's meant to be the first part of a trilogy,so the story is incomplete. -Health and ammo pick ups are very plentiful,so it's a bit on the easy side. -Could be easy to get lost in the large Levels. The Levels are large, almost maze like and many of the rooms in each area look the same, so it could be easy to get lost. but the map ,while a bit tricky to use does a decent job of helping you navigate the "3D" layouts of the levels. I'd also recommend turning on the option to keep the navigation arrow on screen at all times.Almost all the main objectives( and a few of the side quest) use it to show you the correct path to take.So if you just want to rush though and not explore much you can. I rushed though it like that when I played the first time,I say "first time" Because I fully expect to play it again some day when I'm feeling more patient, exploring more and completing more side quests. There are many small notes are scattered around the levels for you to find and read if you want, these help fill out the story and build up the world narrative making it feel more alive. There is a some backtracking,Usually I HATE Backtracking in games, but it didn't really bother me too much in this because most enemies don't respawn after you defeat them so it's quick and easy to run back through rooms you have cleared before.
Fun, Indie, Adventure, 2D Platformer. It is a frickin' dog with lazer beams! I had a blast! Run and jump around investigating, hunting down clues and secrets, blowing up baddies and revealing the story as you go. Upgrade your space dogs abilities and weaponry and exchange your ammunitions and extras for the stuff you need. I found the menu and inventory system easy to manage and the mapping rather good. Nicely detailed backgrounds with good variety between levels. Sound okay, though the music was a little monotonous. I found the gameplay and controls easy and had no fault with it. The story leaves you wanting more. Good length and fun achievements. Fairly easy to 100%. I got my copy in one of the three cheap bundles it has appeared in, but I would say it is worth the usual price.
Some good ideas, but suffers from a lack of self-editing. This game would have been great if they'd kept maybe 50% of the content, and in particular cut down the levels and random notes you come across. It could have been a nice concise experience. Instead, eventually you tend to stop reading stuff and just run through levels clicking on everything and following your objective marker - the map system is quite nice, which makes this a viable approach, but respawning enemies means that the game encourages you to skip the combat as well, leaving very little. I'm a completionist, and I like getting into the guts of a game, so just running through isn't that rewarding an experience for me. As it is, new and exciting content probably wont come in quick enough for you to be tempted to finish slogging through each area, particularly in the first half. Bit of a shame.
Interesting but a bit confusing. Had fun playing it, though. I wouldn't say it's great, but it's not bad either. The graphics are great looking and the concept is good. All in all, I recommend it.
