About
The Short Trip pays direct homage and inspiration from games like The Long Drive and Desert Bus, using the visual style of PICO-8 games, and being created in Godot.
In The Short Trip, you will drive vehicles until you reach the end of the road.
Items are intended to be rare, you must keep track of your food and thirst.
Maintaining your vehicle is paramount, as crashes will slowly deteriorate your vehicle until it is inoperable. It will also burn fuel.
Inventory management is a core feature. You cannot hoard, so you must only take what you need. Taking too much will slow your vehicle down.
All vehicles come with upsides and downsides, which you will find through gameplay. All vehicles are viable, but some are better than others.
Death is permanent, there are no respawns.

free food next to every toilet this is advice the game does not give you.
This stupid game changed my life. I know, pretty big statement for just a bundle of pixels moving across a screen but it did. For reference I'm 45 (46 in a few months) and I grew up poor and never got into video games as a kid. My parents, bless their hearts, just didn't have enough money to buy me and my 8 brothers any sort of game console. The most my ol' da could do was buy a ball every so often for me and the boys to share and throw around (though usually Jerrik would end up getting it stuck on some building or across the river). Once I had moved out and got a job, I realized I just didn't have time for gaming. You know, I barely had time to eat drink and sleep besides working. I'd hear about a new video game console through a show on TV or a new game through a friend that would game. It took me getting fired from my job (♥♥♥♥ you Robert, still wasn't my fault) and moving half way across the country to start working on a PC to even START to play games, and still I didn't like them. It was all to much for me, too many colors, to many things to click, why are there blocks and shapes UGH. Its been a long time since I tried to play video games again but my friends told me to start on Steam and to just look through the games to find something I may enjoy. And that's where I found this game. It just blew me away, the game play, the visuals (gosh so beautiful, like a painting). The world just seems to go on forever, I don't even know how they fit it all in there! I'm still figuring out the controls, I seem to just restart randomly and there's what I think is a car but it doesn't work. I love this game though and would recommend wholeheartedly for any old soul like me who just couldn't figure out gaming!

Really fun game that is exactly what it says it is, a short trip through the desert. Don't forget to turn on your radio (all the songs are public domain!),
The game in its current state is mostly unplayable using a controller as most of the buttons either don't do anything or just don't make sense as to what they're bound to. Currently you can't navigate your inventory with the controller. The settings on a Samsung 49 inch Super Ultra Wide is completely un-navigatable because the settings menu is gigantic to the point where it's mostly off the screen and you can't access it. If you zoom out entirely, as you would expect, You'd be able to see everything, but things become so aggressively pixelated that they go from being able to understand that that's a water jug to it being two or three pixels and they're blue. You have no idea what you're looking at. Same thing with the sausage, gun, or any item at all. If you zoom out completely, again, as you would on such a large monitor, it's completely unplayed. You can't tell what you're looking at at all. A lot of the functionality with the car is just completely unintuitive or cannot be accessed with a controller. Even though it says Xbox controller is good, a lot of buttons just don't work as the d-pad on the controller does nothing and you still need a keyboard. And even then, because I can't navigate the settings menu because of how gigantic it is, I can't access most of the settings to even see if there's any adjustable options. I want to like this game. The concept's great. I've watched SkapeGoat play it and it seems really awesome, but on my Samsung Super Ultra Wide 49-inch monitor, this game is barely playable at all. And I'm struggling to figure out what each button is because I can't look at the controls to see what they are properly due to how the settings are so huge. The UI in the games is so small that when you're completely zoomed out, every pixel becomes indiscernible as to what you're even looking at, and you have to zoom in to the point where everything else that was already visible properly becomes way too aggressively large on this monitor to be able to play without crashing into everything in sight because of how zoomed in you are you can't see anything in the distance. This game has a lot of potential, but it, in its current form, needs significant adjustments. I'm not refunding this. I'm keeping it in hopes that it gets the love and intention that this little gem certainly deserves. TL:DR An update to my review: Dev fixed all the ultra wide problems. I keep my review the same to show a good dev that cares about there game. Far too few these days. A must grab if your a fan of pixel art or the long drive type of road trip games.
Simple and fun, especially if you like driving and pixel style games
I'd give this game a 5/10 in it's current state, which I don't think is necessarily bad, I just think this early on I should be generous with my thoughts on this game's future, because it definitely has potential. My thoughts are: - Simple graphics are nice, but it would be nice to have clarifications of what things are if we were to hover our mouse over them or a mechanic like that. - Controls are a bit "mechanical." Although they are deceptively simple, doing things requires a bit of getting used to the controls, which in my opinion, are a little awkward and could be rearranged or reformatted in a way that facilitates quick and smooth actions that feel more natural to navigate quickly and efficiently. - Small thing, but when the car goes straight upward or downward it becomes visibly smaller than if driving diagonally or horizontally. - This game is what it promises, a more casual relaxing type of game, but I would like to see in the future perhaps a more chaotic mode, where natural disasters, large creatures, and other such extreme hazards spawn throughout the game creating an experience that is constantly requiring fast-thinking and full attention. - Multiplayer would be a fun addition (not a requirement, but it will be fun to go on adventures with friends). - More to see on drives, or maybe a slider that controls how often things are seen? - Alternative art styles (the art style is not bad, and it achieves what style it strives to recreate, which I admire. Though, I think the game would benefit from settings that allow you to change over all styles, perhaps to more cartoony or more realistic textures. I know this is picky, and I understand it's way harder than it sounds to add, so I don't expect it to be implemented, but I just like to give ideas sorry lol). - Maybe slightly more physics based type things, even if simple? Like throwing objects with a small pounce when they hit walls or animals. - Optional interface changes. Your needs pop up next to your character, but I think people able to opt for other displays (like having these needs bars displayed in a corner of the screen or such being an option in menus) I think it'd be great. - The pick up and drop system is a little frustrating, it would be nice to easily click on something to hold it or even a slight change to inventory like having hotkey-ed inventory spaces in the bottom right to make things easier. Again, I understand I'm asking a lot, and also this is a very early state of the game, but these are things I'd be thrilled to see. I'll be keeping your game in my library and am happy to be along for the ride of future updates! :)
500 yummers
nice game. I like it!
Has a few things that need to be ironed out but after a few fixes it's a nice chill and simple experience
A bit confusing and buggy
