About

Being a piece of bread, you naturally crave a stack of pancakes for breakfast. To start off your day and, more importantly, fill your stomach, you set off on a journey to get the best pancakes in town. However, you soon realize you have no clue where the bakery is. Thankfully, it seems like an intruder in your house may just know where you can find it...
In this casual platformer, you explore environments ranging from your home to space. Though getting to your end goal doesn't seem hard at first, you soon find that the path there is a tad convoluted, with enemy desserts jumping around at every turn, trying to stop you. Not to mention, your new friend seems to enjoy messing around with you a bit.
If you're looking for a low-stress way to take a break, this may just be the game for you. :)

"The Short Bread Game" is at least genuinely made... it's one of several thousand godawful 2D retro pixel platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of video games everywhere. This one at least has a cute, novel breakfast theme, but that's not really what the tired old platformer genre needed to revive it from the dead. This features really godawful, lazy pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks bad because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded despite the bad graphics, not because of them. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 3 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Sure, it's only been out less than 2 weeks, but if you look at the trends for these kinds of games, it's not going to get any better. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.

Incredible style and charm in this game. The movement is a little frustrating but definitely worth your time. Takes a little under an hour to complete.
Debo decir que no le tuve fe al momento de iniciar el juego, y después me di cuenta de lo difícil que es ser un pan gordo, la gente no es civilizada contigo, todos te quieren picar y matar, es una realidad que no vi hasta ahorita, 10/10
The bunny is the most sadistic being ever The game mechanics can be quite frustrating specially because the hit-boxes aren't very good and i would randomly not be able to jump and would get stuck. /spoiler A lot of the jumps seem to be too much or extremely just witch makes it unsatisfying. able path in the moon one? The game is cute, some things seem unfinished but it seems like someone put some care into it I think the creator did well, but there is defenetly a lot of room for improvement
GLOWS: The art was amazing, the music was awesome, the story was entertaining, and the levels were very creative! GROWS: Sometimes, it's hard to control Shortie--there's a delay between inputs. Also, Level 9 is buggy--jump mechanics don't work very well with the spinning platforms :( Overall, great first game! Keep up the good work :)
While this game is super cute and visually appealing, quite a few things could be improved to help it be a more enjoyable experience. As far as plot is concerned, I don't think there needs to be a clear plot; in my opinion, platformers are best with a simple plot and objective. The biggest issue I had with this game was the feeling of movement. It was rather slow with no option to sprint and felt somewhat unresponsive. Deaths often occur without any actual contact between the obstacles and the character. The second biggest issue I had was how indistinguishable the platforms and interactive items are compared to the background - there is hardly any difference in depth. Similarly, I was unsure what elements were interactive and which were just there as environmental detail. Lastly, the UI is a little too simple - there is no explanation of controls (though it is easy to figure out since there are only three), no option to quit (I had to window out of the game), and no main menu (only the level menu). I tired of the game in almost record-time, quitting shortly after reaching the second level. I can see what the developer was intending to create and can appreciate the effort. However, I felt disengaged almost immediately and abandoned it with no intention of opening it again. Unfortunatel, I would not recommend this game to others for the reasons I mentioned.
The movement takes a little getting used to and the hitboxes are frustratingly large sometimes, but that aside its a very cute game and i quite enjoyed it 10/10 would bread again!!! (also at the last interaction with the bunny there's a typo from the bread)
And I'm a Rabbit. Not a Bunny.
A cute platformer I really wanted to like, but its flaws are just too glaring for that. It looks very adorable with its style and the varied pastel colour palettes, the cherry blossom map being a visual favourite of mine. The consistent theme for the enemies being either other food items or birds is very nice as well and while simple it is all very charming. Though not that memorable the music is pleasant in its soft cheerful tone. However the controls are what drags down the experience and introduces frustration to the gameplay. Movement is slippery and imprecise at times. Meanwhile you can also randomly get stuck on nothing, which is even more troublesome than getting stuck on the corner of platforms. Although the levels are short, given how easy it is to run into an enemy by just a pixel, some checkpoints would have been nice at least in some of the slightly longer levels like the whale level or the duck level. The enemies are great in their mechanics as much as they are visually appealing. Each enemy type does something unique and creates solid takes on classic platformer obstacles. Their hitboxes also seem to be pixel perfect which is well done. There is not much substance to the plot though there doesn’t need to be for this kind of game. Still there are some humorous lines of dialogue. Overall a lot of effort and love has clearly been put into this game which shows in most of its aspects. Yet the controls, which are one of the most important things in most games, and some obstacles that allow for only a small margin of error, which seems out of place for a game that is supposed to be relaxing, drag it down. Given how short and what a visual treat it is, I would say play this game still if you are interested in the things it does very well, so I will give it a thumbs up with an asterisk though if there was a middling rating option I would give it that. Seeing as this is the developer’s first game I also want to add my encouragement to keep going with game development. It really is just the controls that need some work, everything else is lovely. There is clearly a lot of potential here.
