A legendary arcade game developed by Dimps in 2005. This fighting game gained popularity for its smooth visuals powered by S.M.A as well as the high level of strategy driven by its 2-gauge system. And with the addition of new current-gen features it's even easier to play.

Despite it initial release, 3goo have been doing this game justice by releasing tons of QoL fixes to the game. While its still annoying that all 3 boss character that was unlockable in the original arcade version and are fully playable in the nesicaxlive version of the game are STILL paid dlcs; the game overall quality is still a lot better as of now. Things about reviews, most folks don't go back to update them when something changes. Despite my steam hours I have put a lot of time in this game on the original Naomi version and the updated NesicaXLive version that this is based on. TRF2 is a good game that deserves all the love and attention it can get. Do I recommend this game: Yes, especially rn during the Winter Sale where the game is half off as of writing. I can't bring myself to recommend it at the 29.99 USD price tag because of the boss being excluded from the base game. So if you happen to see this after the sale, just hold off on it or get it from somewhere else cheaper.
The game is a lot better now that most if not all of its launch issues have been fixed. You can turn off widescreen and enable 4:3 mode with sidebars to play the game as you're supposed to, matches against other players no longer kick you back to the title screen and let you rematch, and lobbies have been added. As for changes to balance, this port is actually based off the NESiCAxLive rerelease of the game, which came with a balance patch that is regarded as being better balanced than the Atomiswave original (at least according to the Mizuumi wiki). That's all good, but making Greed, Hazama, and Beatrice DLC when they were unlockable in the arcade versions for free with the flip of a switch is still a very scummy move. It does not replicate the arcade experience of having to "enable" them but rather cuts three characters who were in the game before and resells them to you for no good reason. The game's also a bit too expensive for a game that originally came out in 2005 and doesn't have much content beyond arcade, time attack, survival, training, and online. The publisher is quite frankly incompetent, both with the DLC practices and for botching this port's launch in the first place, and it very well might have ruined this port's chances of being popular and successful thanks to a negative first impression. At least they handled the launch of The Rumble Fish + a whole lot better from what I've seen. So in conclusion, the game is fixed. It's a well-balanced and very fun hidden gem that's well worth a buy if you like fighting games (though not at $30, but it tends to go on sale somewhat often), but although this is a positive review, I can't really forgive the publishers for the abysmal launch and the presence of DLC characters who should've already been in the game by default. At least they're $4 each, but still.
More people should play this. They have addressed a lot of the initial criticisms in patches.
The Rumble Fish 2 is a very neat fighting game. Since the first release on Atomiswave, the NESiCAxLive version had two updates that genuinely improved the game. There's definitely more that could still be improved, but the game has a cool cast and mechanics. This port of the NESiCA version is sorely incomplete and flawed. Based on my testing, it seems like this port is actually just of the NESiCA 1.0 version and not the more updated 1.1 version. In addition, the game has a huge change from its arcade versions, in that its in 16:9 perspective instead of 4:3, which significantly changes the gameplay for many characters and messes up many combos and strategies. I'm totally fine with them making additional changes to the previous version, but they should've honestly gone further to add more additional balance changes from even 1.1, which I think could be improved upon. As I stated earlier, in my testing, this appears to even be based on the old NESiCA verison and not even the 1.1 update. EDIT: After doing more testing, I can confirm that this *is* working off of the 1.1 version and not 1.0 like I previously thought, a few interactions I was using as a testing basis were functioning differently because of the view change. That's my mistake. I do still believe the point stands in that this is functionally a distinct (and worse) offshoot of NESiCA 1.1 because the view change messes a lot of things up. If they wanted to change stuff about the game, they should've gone further to improve various characters, moves, etc. None of this is to mention the predatory locking off of characters freely available in the 12 year old NESiCA version, aka Hazama, Greed, and Beatrice. Instead the developers are trying to charge extra money for them as "DLC," even though they are already present in the game. In addition, the game is missing essential features for a fighting game, including: damage data, stun data, hitstun/recovery data, damage scaling data, frame data, recording, *working* auto guard, and more in training mode. There's also the fact that there's no lobbies for online play (a staple for growing the scene and ensuring enjoyable play for groups) and no rematch option (besides just kicking players out to a game over screen after the match is over). It really feels like the developers had no idea what standard users expect in a fighting game. I highly recommend the developers communicate directly with competitive fighting game players *BEFORE* attempting to make improvements, as it's clear they don't know what they're doing.
The RUMBLE FISH 2 is a great come back but with a some setbacks. Pros 1. Arcade Mode 2. Local PvP 3. Online PvP with (Roll Back) 3. Sound track still hold up 4. Controls are smooth Cons 1. (DLC) characters roster that should be in base roster 2. No story mode Overall: The Rumble Fish 2 is a classic that has return after along absence from the fighting scene and it still hold up with the latest version having quantity of life updates. Tho It unfortunate to see that the story mode wasn't given a translation and added to the rumble fish 2 and also seeing 3 of the characters lock behind dlc. The rumble fish 2 is still a great game and still hold up very well in 2023 and not one to sleep on. 🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟
A cult classic fighting game that was originally released during the "Dark Ages" of fighting games by the OG SNK Team now under "Dimps" right before SF4 revived the FGC which you could argue at the time was on life support. This port when it released here on Steam was unfortunately completely botched from the pricing including the DLC monetization, bare bones touch ups for PC play, and things like the stages not having arcade perfect spacing in 16:9 so certain combos wouldn't work as they should. I mean you could argue at least there's rollback so online play is decent (If you could get matches here lol). But this seems like a lesson in how not to release/re-release a fighting game. Now RF2 is sitting at a "Mostly Negative" rating and has been left to dry. I will commend the devs for at least addressing most of the problems if you look at the series of patches they released over time, and finally marking down the MSRP down to 14.99 USD and the DLC characters at .99 cents a pop. How the game is listed today is how it should have been on launch, but it's too little too late in a way. Now the default place to play if you want to run sets is fightcade. Glad this exists even though it was sadly DOA, but hopefully this is a learning lesson for everyone involved. I think for fighting game devs they should really run a public early access period for players to test and then during that time get feedback and fix any issues/add certain highly requested features/QoL before doing a true "official"/Final release when trying to bring back old games like The Rumble Fish 2. This is just my 2 cents. Conclusion - Cult Classic from the "Dark Ages" of the FGC that everyone who likes fighting games should try, unique cast and system mechanics. Cool yet sometimes uncanny character animations. Completely botched release by the publisher and devs that destroyed any momentum this official port could have had, but the most important issues seem to be fixed now including the pricing. Unless some notable FGC streamer tries to revive this official release fightcade is the only way to get online matches now and for the foreseeable future.
