Que locura de juego, hermoso de principio a fin. Me hizo reír tanto como me hizo pensar. Me llevó 7 horas terminarlo. Brillante idea y ejecución, me encantó.
Sad that one of the final achievements is a bit broken, but i got it in the end with a bit of troubleshooting. I had a fun time going through the notes and learning the lore of the game bit by bit. :3
This game ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ rules. While not much of it is an RPG, TRoTEoTGRPGoAT is a fun and puzzling journey into *should* we remake games that we love. Why we love those games in the first place. The positives and negatives of nostalgia. All beneath the guise of an RPG with, honestly, a very fun and interesting combat system that is more about solving the puzzle than anything. There is a lot of meta commentary here, and often it comes off as camp or B movie, but while that was initially a little grating it did not take long for that to become part of what I loved about TRotEotGRPGoAT. Absolutely going to be one of my favorites from this year. No idea what this team is going to create next, but I'm already seated for it.
This game really impressed me. For context, I tend to be harder on games with a meta or self-referntial component -- there's just so many ways that this kind of game can be trite or cloying. But this one somehow manages to avoid all the pitfalls and create a narrative that's really compelling. Perhaps it's because this game embraces it's meta-elements so strongly -- it goes just hard enough. Gameplay wise, this feels a bit like an escape room, with puzzles that are generally not too hard, but do force a bit of out of the box thinking now and then. Honestly, it's the perfect vehicle to do deliver this kind of story.
please play this game.
6/10 highly recommend
Really fun so far. Feels like the cabin escape room exploration from Inscryption, mixed with RPG like secrets from games like tunic. Cool love letter and mashup!
Is the gameplay and time worth the price? Debatable. Is the story being told worth supporting? I very much think so. I would have very much liked to see the "full version" metroidbraina, or the game this is based on; But that's kinda the point, isn't it?
Reading the reviews, this game seems very divisive. It appears to have carved out quite a narrow niche for itself. Without spoiling too much: if you’ve played and enjoyed Daniel Mullins’ games, such as *Inscryption*, you may find yourself wondering why the game’s tags are what they are. It’s not quite an RPG, which seems to have confused some people. The game also wears its inspiration (e.g.
Tunic
) on its sleeve. Almost literally. But I’ve gotta say: I was hooked from the beginning. I fully enjoy the niche this game occupies and what it is trying to do. For me, this is one of the greatest games of all time. The developers’ work is creative and fresh in a way I’ve rarely seen before. While the game isn’t perfect, I’m eager to see what they cook up next. It’s a commentary on remake culture, overly attached fanbases, game-development culture, artistic vision, nostalgia, and so much more. For example, how far can a “fix” go before it becomes intrusive and compromises the spirit of the original game? The meta elements are handled beautifully, especially at the very end (
And wow, kudos for the undercover GDC talk! I sat there with my mouth open, watching the chaos unfold!!
). You never know how many more layers are going to be peeled back. If you dabble in game development (even as a hobby), follow the industry or development scene, or have ever played a game with developer commentary enabled, this game is absolutely for you. I know this game is for me, and I’ll be telling my grandkids to go play The Remake of the End of the Greatest RPG of All Time.
Great RPG-Puzzle game with an excellent story!
