This was a letdown. even taking as much time as i could it only took 30 min to complete. and by that i mean lose, becuase theres this wierd timed section at the end that makes no sense. the biggest issue here is the hands shown in the trailor are not what you get in game. you have no body either, just floaty hands that dont match finger tracking and dissapear when picking up items. then we come to the woman which looked fine in the trailor, shes not even in the game!. The demo showed multiplayer but thats not here either. in fact the demo was probably this game, just a couple parts cut out. i mean theres only 4, and if you try you can beat them easily under 10 minutes. i took 30 but that was with finding everything i could and trying every tool and item on everything. which only felt good a couple of times. like at one point you cuaterize your hand with a flamed knife and to do so you just stick the knife into your hand and hear a sound. no visible things happened. i felt a little scammed honestly. when the trailor does not show what your getting then you walk into sketchy false advertisement terrirory. also i never even saw the killer. i have no clue how to beat this game and dont want to honestly. im going for a refund on principle(tired of vr devs wasting my refunds) There was one part where you have to spin around and watch story elements unfold through black and white cartoons. 1st you have to actually spin your body in a circle to get it to continue....... then thats all the story there is. just a another vr dissapointment to me.

Here we embody a policeman who gets into the clutches of a serial killer during his research. While we are trying to escape from this unfortunate situation, trapped in a creepy hut, a task force is already on its way. But this all happens too slowly for us, so we decide to meet the team halfway. To make matters worse, the nasty serial killer has poisoned us ... The story in The Poisoner sounds quite exciting and there are not many escaperoom games with background in VR. If you watch the trailer, it is full of action and cool scenes and you think you can expect a really good title. The graphics are decent, even if a bit too dark, but that fits well into the atmosphere of the game. The story is told between the four different rooms. In a kind of black and white comic pictures and words are inserted and a narrator explains the story. But the player has to turn with the fade-ins to continue the story. A nice idea. But, the trailer of The Poisoner unfortunately doesn't show the current game. It starts with the fact that e.g. the shown arm models of the player are missing. That's not that bad, but arms usually seem more immersive than just faded in hands. Much more blatant is the fact that the second protagonist, the policewoman, who is presented in the trailer, does not appear in the game The Poisoner. I find that quite brazen! You could call that misleading advertising. The controls in the game are teleportation controlled and can also be played with the index controllers, but free movement would be nice at least as an option. If you finish The Poisoner after 30 minutes a scoreboard is shown and that's it. There is no exit button and the game has to be ended e.g. via the steamoverlay. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1844768021 I cannot recommend this game. It looked so promising and then it was a big disappointment. But according to the developers, the game should be worked on further. It is also still EA. But the price and the length of the game and the misleading trailer make me give a thumbs down. A game with potential is about all I can say. Unfortunately it has a lot of early access issues. Game is setup with 4 interconnected escape rooms. Porch, Cage, Basement, Cabin. Difficulty really depends on how well you are with puzzle solving. I will say this, the porch literally takes about 10 seconds to complete once you know what to do. The three after that are more challenging. Entire game took me about 40 minutes and I don't consider myself to be a very good escape room player. Played on HTC VIVE with Index Controllers Pros- -Works with both Vive standard and Index controllers. -Graphics are good and it's got a good creepy scare factor. Some good jump scares. -Game concept and idea is solid -Level selection is nice -Good for showing house guests as it's short and simple. Cons- -Teleport walk only which works fine for the concept but free motion would be nice to have too. -No menu options like movement or audio and brightness adjust which is really needed. Game was too dark to see what I was meant to see. Maybe increasing the flashlight and candle outputs would do the trick as well. -After you die or complete the game you're presented with a scoreboard and can't return to main menu. You're stuck, you have to exit game and restart if you want to play again or anything. Gotta fix that. A pause and return to main menu option as well. -No real intro video and yet the trailer with the male and female characters clearly has some decent cut scene material that could be used to build a nice video intro to the game. -Store Trailer vs Actual game differ. There are not two police officers. Just you. None of those video cut scenes you see in the trailer are there either which is a bit misleading to buyers. -Tutorial started talking about looking for a symbol but didn't tell me to look at my watch to see what the symbol looked like. Better directions maybe. -More escape rooms. The game is just too short. Conclusion- I can't recommend this game in it's current state. If they could fix the things I mentioned above and either drop the price or add more rooms then my opinion would change. I will be keeping an eye on this one as I liked it enough to keep it on the radar. It really does have potential but needs attention.
Experienced on the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers
You can view my video review here: https://youtu.be/I0sCJdxcfA8 I have to admit, I saw the store page photo and teaser trailer and was immediately intrigued by the female cop with the short shorts. Unfortunately, she's not in the game. Talk about your bait and switch! Anyways, I bought this for $4.99 USD during the Steam Winter Sale 2019 and I think I got my money's worth. However, I'm not sure it's worth the normal price. This is a low-budget VR puzzle escape room with voice overs and a campy, simple film-noire type story. You're a detective hot on the trail of a serial killer and you're tasked with going inside and ... you know what? It really doesn't matter. You're just here to solve the escape room puzzles. Who the killer is has no bearing on what you do. You're just told at the end whodunnit. Whole game takes about 20 minutes (if you're good at solving puzzles) to 1 hour (if you're bad at solving puzzles). There's an option by default to give you hints on your wrist watch (I would advise against using this option). The puzzles are pretty straight-forward and all made sense. So if you're a complete puzzle beginner this may be the perfect game to play your first VR escape room type game. However, if you're a puzzle pro / veteran then you will probably not like this game. Teleportation is the only locomotion and there is snap-turning as well. The interactions are very basic, just highlight the item and press grab or trigger. You may have to tap on the item with your other hand to activate the item (cell phone). There is this one part at the end where you do have to move to fall down so you need a little bit more than standing room to play this game. The game ran smoothly for the most part. I experienced no bugs. You can select scenes at the main menu. So if you get the bad ending (because you didn't solve the last puzzle in time), you can restart near the end. The voice acting was just okay and the story was basic. I believe there are a total of 6 scenes if you count the tutorial and introduction. Sale Price Rating 6/10. Buy on deep sale only recommendation. Only for casual puzzle fans or beginners to the puzzle / escape room genre.
I was real pumped for this game graphics are point but i thought this was goto put me in the world as cop try to find clues and make chooses have some puzzles along the way but these is more just a escape room game with little story.
Gameplay Videos: Part 1 Part 2 Here's the basics: Horror-based escape room game where you find yourself trapped at the house of a prolific murderer. There are quite a few jump scares which are effective but a few of them are rather cheap. Pros: - Good atmosphere - Graphics are solid - Some clever puzzles and mechanics - Loved the black and white story advancements Cons: - Some assets are extremely basic and out of place - Short (beat the game in about 40 minutes) - Voice acting isn't quite professional - Only teleportation based movement - Pricey for what the game has in store Overall, I am recommending the game because I enjoyed my time in it and that's worth $9 for me. For most people though, probably too expensive for the limited amount of gameplay. Game is in early access though and I expect a lot more polish and options as it progresses.
Cool atmosphere!
Im not sure how well this plays with other vr controllers but I have the Valve Index. Items constantly fall out of my hands when I dont want them to, the movement is bad (teleporting) Sometimes youre teleported across the room without hitting the teleport button, Items you are holding will teleport across the room. If the issues with items teleporting and dropping from your hands randomly plus the movement was fixed this would be a good game.
I haven't finished this game yet, but what I've been playing for is just what I expected. Good graphics, good atmosphere ... I'm going to start the fourth stage, but I've requested a couple of clues.
