A delightful game. I was made aware of it through One Short Eye's video on it, My wife and I played it together as we do many games like this, we do the voice acting ourselves. It was genuinely laugh out loud funny and just a very fun experience. Some of the puzzles stumped us, but thankfully nothing too moon logicy. Really loved the relationship between Oliver and Englebert. Felt very sincere, even when they were being sarcastic. Really hope this gets a follow up. We want to see what happens next. Great job man. You clearly put your whole heart into this.
This is one good looking and incredibly funnily written adventure with two of my new favorite protagonists in gaming. Oozing with so much charm and passion for the genre it snuggly fits itself right into, that I have a hard time not recommending this to anyone who likes a fun and well-crafted narrative. The Phantom Fellows stands proudly next to some of the great classics we all reminisce about from time to time, at least in spirit, passion, and writing. Not to mention the absolute banger of a droning synthwave soundtrack. No need for an external walkthrough either, as many of the older games almost require nowadays. The Phantom Fellows feature a neat way to ask one of the protagonists for help, letting you inch closer to figuring out what to do next if you get stuck, instead of flat out spoiling the fun. This is such a delightful experience that deserves way more love than it currently gets. I also have to recommend the podcast The Classic Gamers Guild, on which two of the people behind this game, not only talks about adventure games in general, but also got a few episodes that chronicles the development in a way I find invaluable for any aspiring creatives. Pick it up, leave a review, give the podcast a listen, support cool creators any way possible <3
简介
《The Phantom Fellows》
Really enjoyable adventure, the humour is great and now I'm really looking forward to the next one to see what's next for the characters.
One of the most effortlessly funny games I have ever played.
Pretty fun dialogue and puzzles.
Soweit so gut! Mal sehen ob bzw. wann da was passiert.
Puntaje: 7/10
I really enjoyed the style, atmosphere and dialogue in this game. I love the way clues are often dropped in the dialogue and the way some puzzles have multiple solutions. It definitely has the feel of older adventure games, without being as frustrating. I also particularly liked the parts involving animals.
I really wanted to like this, since I love the Darkside Detective games. Phantom Fellows is not for my taste, though. I am not saying the game is terrible and encourage any reader to weigh positive and negative reviews before making the choice to buy this game. With that out of the way, this is my take: I found the text really annoying, like it is trying too hard to be funny. There are good jokes, but most of them are just forced and/or reeeeeeally long-winded. This could be tolerated, if not for the fact that in the middle of many of those overly elaborate, drawn-out dialogue there is, sometimes, information that is useful for solving the puzzles. So the player must pay close attention to all that nonsense to fish out the obscured information. Oh god. Comparatively, not every Darkside Detective joke makes me laugh either, but at least they are harmless one-liners.
