About

The Phantom is out!
We want to thank you for your support. As a small studio, working on a beloved and historic character like the Phantom has been both an honor and a privilege. We've poured our hearts into making the Phantom look as good in the game as he does in the comics.
While the game is out now, our work on The Phantom hasn't stopped. We're hard at work and have a big patch on the way that addresses the community's feedback.
Thank you so much for being a part of this journey. For more info on what's coming, see the discussion boards.

While I really love the artwork and storyline, its sad that "The Phantom" the superhero of the game, is the slowest character on the screen. Getting the character to turn quickly seems impossible as is running or any combo move. Perhaps Art of Play should focus on soccer games as the only way to seemingly be effective in completing the level is to kick your way through it.
The Phantom: The Video Game is the first major console/PC game from Australian studio Art of Play, and while it has a lot of potential, the fact that it’s the studio’s first big game shows. The game has often been compared to Streets of Rage 4, but the comparison is a bit unfair due to the larger budget and team behind SoR4. The Phantom feels more like an older brawler, moving more a little slower than some modern counterparts. Many have said they there are not enough moved in The Phantom. This is untrue as a said-by-side count of the moves available here compared to Sor4 show that with special moves counted, the two games are on equal footing. Still, there is certainly a feeling of "old school" to The Phantom's gameplay. To carry forward the Streets of Rage comparison, The Phantom feels more like playing the original 16-big Streets of Rage rather than the newer fourth entry in the series. Please note that I am not suggesting that this is a bad thing, as I feel this is still a perfectly relevant style of play. And in-level character animation and the environmental art is a highlight, showcasing unique locations, with all the characters presenting a wonderful sense of personality. However, the comic-panel cutscenes could have been better, feeling akin to old-internet Flash animations. The soundtrack is excellent, evoking the different cultures and atmospheres the game explores. Unfortunately, some of the voices and sounds in cutscenes are muffled behind the wonderful score. The gameplay is enjoyable but sometimes attacks lack the impact found in other games of the genre. It’s a shorter experience, taking around 2.5 - 3 hours to complete on medium difficulty. While boss fights present a cool idea in the form of horse/ bike/ car/ etc chases, they can become repetitive. Guns, while available, don’t feel overpowered and are more used for stunning enemies and setting of traps. This is in line with the lore of the comic, where the Phantom doesn’t kill. Fans of The Phantom will likely appreciate the numerous references, but non-fans might find themselves confused by certain plot points and lore-heavy moments that aren’t explained clearly. The game does wear its comic inspiration and love for the source material on its sleeve which, in this era of comic book games redesigning characters until they are nothing but a hodgepodge of homogeneous styles, should be commended. Ultimately, the game is fun for those who are already fans of The Phantom and/or those who enjoy older-style brawlers, but it may not meet the expectations of those looking for something more modern or polished. The devs are constantly refining the game, however, so things may improve over time. Personally, I reckon it's certainly worth checking out.

They released a broken game full of bugs and freezing, barely address any concerns, gameplay is worse than Streets of Rage 3 from 90s, hell worse than ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Data East beat em ups in the 90s. Devs promised to add features but nope, they dissappeared
The game fails to connect with my Xbox Elite 2 controller very often. Too glitchy and buggy.
Too many technical issues. I am going to refund because I cannot even make it past the 3rd stage without the game glitching. And having to replay the previous stage only for it to happen again.
The game is buggy. But it looks very nice. Recommended because I have a strange fascination with not quite good games. Based on the credits, there were not any core programmers, they are listed in 'Supporting team'. This might explain how the fighting system is juuuust there. It works, but you get bizarre issues like enemies sliding or teleporting. The worst bugs I encountered was enemies spawning one car back on the train level. The player can't backtrack cars, so I couldn't punch them. Luckily the wolf summon worked. The other bug was the final boss just didn't reappear after his second rest on the shipping containers. So I had to restart the level. After the boat chase level, I exited the game after making it to Australia, then when I came back the next day it put me back at the boat chase level. Gameplay wise, it's acceptable. You have light attacks, heavy attacks and a selection of attacks that use a super meter. Maxing out the gauge lets you perform an invincible super that brand enemies with the skull ring. You also have guns, but they are fairly weak and not worth using. Since they don't do much damage, I thought that maybe they would have some use as crowd control, but they don't penetrate enemies. The boat chase level is particularity weird. Your boat hitbox is skewed to the bottom of your sprite. The villains boat can just drive over their own mines, hiding them from your view. Bosses are not threatening on their own, but they summon lots of mooks so it's kind of like a normal stage with one 'leader' enemy that you need to beat up to progress. ..Also, as of this review of the games release in 2025. The official twitter account still reads 'Official account for The Phantom video game, coming to all platforms in 2024.'
The Phantom video game has just been released, delivering an action-packed side-scrolling adventure with an engaging story. This challenging game keeps players on their toes as enemies vary their attacks and defenses against our playable heroes—The Ghost (The Phantom) and Diana Palmer Walker, his fearless wife. Each character brings unique skills to the battlefield, making every encounter dynamic and strategic. Whether you're a fan of classic comics or thrilling action games, this title offers an exciting experience that shouldn't be missed!
Super cool game, any issues from the initial demo seem to be fixed. Game looks great and plays well. That high kick is nasty.
I cannot play this game beyond the Player Selection screen. I tried multiple times to reinstall but only with the same effect. Time to get a refund.
The game is about a once famous hero. It is necessary to save the world by breaking the hordes of enemies. Good hand-drawn graphics, you play, but it feels like you're looking at a comic book. Fans of platformers should definitely play.
