About

Five years ago, The Viscount and its crew set sail through The Pale Passage in search of absolute magnetic South. The ship and its crew were tragically lost to the ice, never to be seen again. Her sister ship, The Temperance shall follow in her path, hoping to find answers where The Viscount failed.

A polar exploration game set in an unforgiving frozen wasteland where you embark on a treacherous voyage across the ice and through the Pale Beyond. It’s a stunning yet harsh landscape that can change at any moment.
Every decision matters and the ice doesn’t care.
As the expedition unfolds and the Polar Winter approaches, every decision you make will have a meaningful impact on the story as you navigate your way across the ice.

You didn’t ask to lead this expedition, but here you are. Stuck in the ice, Captain missing, miles from civilisation. Someone has to take charge.
Manage your meagre resources, balance safety and morale, make the hard calls, and head in the only direction you can - through The Pale Beyond.
Keeping the crew (and sled dogs) safe, fed, and warm during the expedition is imperative. Surviving the ice will matter little in the face of a mutiny. Every vote will count. So keep the crew on your side.

Featuring original musical compositions, shanties and accordion tunes that will dynamically evolve alongside your journey.

Saltstone Studios is located in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Their first game was The Pale Beyond, a story-driven survival management game.
The team is interested in exploring novel systems-based narrative games that combine the kind of deep choice and consequence narratives you find in interactive fiction, with extensive systems more common from other genres - all designed to bring in-depth worlds and characters to life.
Each title draws direct influences from the complex history of Ireland and Britain, with extensive literary and historical research. Every pixel, sentence, and musical note, is hand crafted in house with care and attention.

Połączenie The Banner Saga i Frostpunka. Bardzo dobra gra polecam.
I think certain mechanics of this game could have been introduced better, however this was so much fun! I also bawled my eyes out, so yeah, definitely looking forward to Saltstone Studios' next game
Amazing 10/10
The Pale beyond è IL gestionale story-driven migliore a cui abbia mai giocato.
The Pale Beyond has a lot in common with Pathologic 2, in terms of what playing it feels like. You're constantly making decisions about how to handle the people around you and trying to keep them alive with your meagre resources.
⭐ Rating: 4/5 The Pale Beyond is a gripping narrative survival game that kept me invested from beginning to end. While the survival mechanics can be challenging at times, it's the story and characters that truly carry the experience. What I Loved - Excellent Storytelling The narrative does a great job of creating tension, uncertainty, and emotional investment. Every decision feels meaningful as you struggle to lead your crew through impossible circumstances. - Memorable Characters The crew members feel distinct and believable. Watching relationships develop and seeing how each person reacts under pressure was one of the highlights of the game. - Strong Narrative Focus The game excels at making you feel the weight of leadership. The choices you make aren't always easy, and that's what makes the journey so compelling. - Replayability Multiple choices and different outcomes give the game solid replay value. It's the kind of story that encourages another playthrough to see how events might unfold differently.
An excellent survival game with a really gripping story and narrative. And hey, I always love Frosty Hells.
Worth your time.
I loved the dense narrative, the game very much felt like an interactive version of the great series "The Terror", including great characters & writing and a ever growing sense of danger while the story is unfolding. I liked how much care was given the game; some decisions really matter, and even small decisions lead to different outcomes.
