this game is sick its like ready steady cook on steroids absolutely a monstrous experience i had no idea what was going on or if i won or lost
My Experience I found the Odd Neon Void when looking for new, experimental games that seem like they touch on psychology. The game certainly has a unique throwback style, and it is clear that your protagonist is experiencing SOMETHING, but I found the game neither enjoyable nor engaging. You'll spend most of your time slowly moving through large mazes, attacking bugs that seem to teleport around you as you approach. The hit detection on your weapon is awful and always out-of-sync. You'll eventually locate an exit, where you'll be teleported to another bland maze. You can also locate written letters in each level, that are intended to give you some context for your current predicament. The letters were the most interesting part of the game, but the rest of the experience was so slow and un-engaging that I wasn't very motivated to find them. I think I found perhaps two during my time with the game. I also had one of the 3D encounters (like the one you see in the screenshots on the store page), but this wasn't much better than the 2D "real-time" combat. I think I "finished" a playthrough of the game, but I'm unsure. In the description, the developer mentions that there are multiple endings. However, I wasn't inclined to hop back in for another ride. The other reviewers seemed to enjoy the game, so perhaps my opinion is a minority one. Either way, I'd recommend that the developer make the levels a bit more interesting, tighten up the combat, and provide clues a bit more regularly as to the surreal or metaphorical story he or she is trying to tell.
Ok I'll leave a short review since this game seems new and I think it needs it. First of all it is not really worth the full €2,39 price, I'd suggest to buy it when it is below €1. It is a very basic maze game with three levels: The first one is the one I'd call the real "Neon Void", with vaporwave colors and the highest number of monsters The second one is a forset, which I couldn't rellay explore that much since I found the exit pretty quickly The third one reminds of a sunset for its colors and I guess it is when you get to choose wether you get the bad or de good ending depending on your actions in this level. Battles consists of few random encounters with basic battle commands. I didn't really get how to improve your stats because I only have one full run at this moment. The "plot" (touching one, which I however will not spoil) is delivered by some notes you find hidden in the levels; sadly I missed all the ones in the forest since I found the exit sooner and didn't feel like exploring that much since I'm pretty bad at this. It's an ok game, worth half its price. Buy it for almost an hour of old DOS games nostalgia and an important message.
Found this game while it was on sale - I'm sorry for the dislike but it's much too bare-bones — with it lacking any music and poor fighting mechanics, but having what seems to be notes in some parts of the levels presumably attempting to tell some kind of underlying story. It's not terrible, just needs improvement is all. The walk speed is far too slow. It's unclear whether what I got was an ending or not, as it softlocked the game and I had to alt-f4. As of the time of writing, I haven't gotten any of the other endings besides the one where
Jack takes his pills and gets back to bed.
But to anyone seeing this review, don't let this negative view discourage you from playing the game, while it needs improvement, it's not horrible, just a bit tedious and feels somewhat unfinished. I really do think it's still worth a play or two, but maybe catch it when it's on sale like I did.
yeah its odd but not really in a good way
The Odd Neon Void is an experimental indie adventure RPG developed by Conmtrast and published by LGV, designed as a surreal descent into a hostile, glowing dimension that feels deliberately alien and disorienting. From the moment the game begins, it becomes clear that atmosphere and retro stylization are at the forefront of its identity. Rather than offering cinematic storytelling or contemporary design polish, it embraces an intentionally primitive aesthetic inspired by early home console and computer eras, presenting players with a neon-saturated labyrinth that feels both nostalgic and unsettling. You step into the role of Jack, a character who finds himself inexplicably trapped within the mysterious neon void. The world is composed of stark corridors, flashing patterns, and minimalistic dungeon spaces inhabited by aggressive creatures known as bugs. There is little exposition to explain how or why Jack has arrived here. Instead, the narrative unfolds indirectly through scattered notes and environmental clues. This sparse storytelling approach reinforces the sense of isolation, encouraging players to piece together fragments of lore while navigating an environment that offers few comforting answers. Gameplay blends light RPG progression with exploratory dungeon crawling. Movement through the void is straightforward, and combat centers on direct confrontations with the hostile inhabitants. Defeating enemies allows Jack to increase certain attributes, providing a sense of incremental growth as the journey continues. Collectible items and stat boosts scattered throughout the dungeons offer additional progression paths, though the systems remain relatively simple. The experience emphasizes survival and endurance rather than intricate combat mechanics or deep character customization. One of the defining characteristics of The Odd Neon Void is its visual presentation. The environments are dominated by intense neon colors, flickering lights, and repeating geometric patterns that create a hypnotic effect. The minimal resolution and retro graphical style are clearly intentional, evoking early Atari and Commodore-era aesthetics. This design choice contributes heavily to the mood, transforming the void into a place that feels abstract and almost dreamlike. However, the bright flashing visuals may prove overwhelming for some players, and those sensitive to strobing effects should approach with caution. The sound design complements the visuals with synthetic tones and ambient audio that heighten tension. Rather than providing melodic comfort, the soundtrack leans into unsettling repetition and sparse electronic sounds that reinforce the feeling of being lost in an artificial, unstable dimension. Together, the audio and visual elements create a cohesive atmosphere that defines the experience more strongly than any individual gameplay mechanic. While the game offers multiple endings influenced by player decisions, its overall structure remains linear and compact. Replayability stems primarily from uncovering alternative outcomes and experimenting with different progression paths. However, players seeking expansive content or highly varied environments may find the scope limited. The mechanical depth does not evolve dramatically over time, and the repetition of corridors and encounters can make later sections feel similar to earlier ones. Reception to The Odd Neon Void has reflected its experimental nature. Some players appreciate its commitment to a bold retro vision and its willingness to prioritize mood over accessibility. Others find the rough mechanics and minimal narrative unsatisfying, particularly when compared to more polished RPG experiences. Ultimately, enjoyment depends heavily on whether a player values atmosphere and stylistic experimentation over traditional structure and refinement. In the end, The Odd Neon Void stands as a niche indie project that prioritizes artistic intent and retro homage over mainstream appeal. It offers a surreal journey through a hostile digital landscape, blending simple RPG progression with an intentionally stark presentation. For players intrigued by abstract worlds, minimalist storytelling, and the aesthetic of early gaming eras reimagined through a neon lens, it provides a distinct and unconventional experience. Those seeking deeper mechanical complexity or narrative richness may find it limited, but its identity remains undeniably unique within the indie RPG space. Rating: 5/10

The Odd Neon Void is a surreal experience of a... game, you are told nothing about how to play other than through trial and error, the bugs can teleport to "nothing personal kid" you, and the ending breaks the game to the need of alt f4.
