Beautiful animation and music make up for the sluggish dialog and movement. If you're in the mood for a true slow-burn mystery, I recommend this. I did look up some hints as a few of the puzzles required painstaking backtracking which I don't have the patience for as much as I used to. But this game is a true beauty. Hope to see the developer make more like this in the future.
5/5, recommended to my OXENFREE discord. would play again. perfectly paced and captivating story. the art is also so rich with color and depth, and i love the character design.

The Night is Grey is a captivating point-and-click adventure that combines psychological suspense with emotional storytelling, creating an experience that feels more like an interactive animated film than a conventional horror game. Developed and published by Whalestork Interactive, the story follows Graham, a man fleeing through a dark forest filled with mysterious wolves. His desperate escape leads him to Hannah, a young girl taking refuge in an abandoned lodge. Together they begin a dangerous journey in search of safety, but the deeper they travel into the wilderness, the more the line between reality and illusion begins to blur. Rather than relying on constant scares, the game builds tension through mystery, character interactions, and a carefully paced narrative that keeps players questioning everything they see. The game's greatest strength lies in its storytelling. While the opening presents a familiar survival premise, the narrative gradually reveals itself through meaningful dialogue, environmental clues, and unexpected twists that continually reshape the player's understanding of the events. Graham and Hannah develop a believable relationship that gives the story genuine emotional depth, making their journey feel personal instead of simply serving as a vehicle for puzzles. The plot also explores mature psychological themes involving fear, trauma, trust, and loss, allowing the mystery to unfold naturally without resorting to excessive horror clichés. As the truth slowly comes into focus, the story becomes increasingly thought-provoking, rewarding players who pay close attention to every conversation and detail scattered throughout the world. Visually, The Night is Grey is one of the most distinctive indie adventure games in recent years. Every character is animated by hand, giving movements a fluid, expressive quality that recalls classic animated productions. The beautifully painted environments are equally impressive, featuring dozens of carefully illustrated locations that range from eerie forests to abandoned structures, underground passages, and forgotten buildings. Subtle environmental animations bring these scenes to life while maintaining an atmosphere of quiet unease. The artistic direction successfully balances beauty with tension, allowing every location to contribute to the game's haunting mood. Even during calmer moments, the visual presentation constantly reminds players that something unsettling is hidden beneath the surface. Gameplay stays true to the foundations of traditional point-and-click adventures while presenting them with modern polish. Exploration, item collection, dialogue, and environmental puzzles make up the core of the experience. Most puzzles are logically designed and encourage observation rather than random experimentation, rewarding players who carefully examine their surroundings and think through each obstacle. The progression rarely feels disconnected from the narrative, as every puzzle contributes to the journey or helps uncover additional pieces of the mystery. Although some solutions may require patience and the deliberate pacing may not appeal to players looking for fast action, these choices reinforce the game's emphasis on immersion and storytelling instead of constant mechanical complexity. The audio presentation further enhances the atmosphere with a beautifully orchestrated original soundtrack that adapts to the emotional tone of each scene. Rather than overwhelming the player, the music subtly reinforces moments of suspense, reflection, and emotional vulnerability. Ambient sounds such as rustling trees, distant wildlife, and the silence of abandoned places help create a convincing sense of isolation throughout the adventure. Combined with expressive voice performances and detailed animations, the sound design elevates the experience, making every encounter feel more intimate and every revelation more impactful. The Night is Grey is not designed for players seeking action-heavy horror or nonstop excitement. Its slower pace, focus on dialogue, and narrative-driven progression demand patience, but those willing to embrace its deliberate rhythm will discover an engaging mystery supported by excellent writing, memorable characters, and remarkable artistic craftsmanship. Whalestork Interactive succeeds in delivering a thoughtful adventure that values emotional storytelling just as much as puzzle-solving, resulting in a game that remains memorable long after its conclusion. For fans of atmospheric adventures and psychological thrillers, it stands as a rewarding and emotionally satisfying experience that demonstrates how powerful independent storytelling can be when paired with outstanding visual and audio design. Rating: 8/10
I won this game in a give-away on X. Didn't know what to expect, but now after playing it, I do recommend The Night is Grey. It is a tribute to classic point & click exploration games. The story deals with psychological trauma so do heed the trigger warnings. The stylized art and the music is beautiful. The writing intriguing, with moments of insight and dark humor which lend more impact to the odd (and more chilling) musings or hallucinations of the main character. Rarely, if ever, have I had such ambivalent feelings towards a main character. Strangely, it enhanced my immersion as I was fully vested in getting the little girl (Hannah) to safety. There are a number of puzzles to solve and they are of medium difficulty. One or two of the puzzles reminded me of Myst. Perhaps a good idea to take some screenshots or make notes to save you some trouble. The maze translates well into the story, as you are in a way also navigating the inner dialogue of Graham, the protagonist. Yeah, I did get lost, but I have a natural tendency to do so in such environments. It is important to also note that interactions with objects are done with left and right clicking. If you forget to do both in some situations, you may not get all the relevant information you need. I was... completely satisfied with the ending.(Granted it took me several hours to internalise it afterwards!) I have a feeling that this story will linger in my mind. The story does not endeavour to judge or preach. it is more like a mirror, reflecting a situation and the interactions of those in it. It is up to you to decide what that reflection tells you. Considering that this is a first-time project for a small Indie dev team with a limited budget, it makes it all the more remarkable. The Night is Grey is a work of art and the team should be very proud.
Oooh boy. It's a typical point and click as far as mechanics but the story takes you to a place that you may never see coming.
i streamed this game and the devs came in and where super nice! love the art for both the characters and backgrounds, the puzzles had a good mix of difficulty and the music fit the scenes very well! definitely worth a play if you like silent hill or horror puzzle games!
Its good.....
this game was not fun at all the i ended up searching up a walkthrough half way through just to speed things up because this character walks so damn slow and the puzzles became absurdly hard and non logical that they gave me a headache from thinking so hard it was agonizing plus the story was terrible made me think the wolf was mutated from the water when really it was him in the end just murdering the little girls mother. don't waste your time on this one.
it was okay
Short but compelling point-and-click psychological thriller. I was a tad frustrated by the slower dialogue & character movement animations and the puzzles at times, because I felt it was not always clear how they worked mechanically, but overall I enjoyed my time with this game. The artwork is beautiful and the story is pretty gripping, with the whole picture only becoming clear after you finish the game and reconsider all the chapters. One thing I will say about the story is (spoilers)
that it kind of plays into stereotypes about mental illnesses that can be harmful. I don't mind having an unlikable protagonist, but some of the conclusions this game comes to are a bit disturbing without providing any sort of counterweight.
