The Myth of the Godslayer is an action RPG in the vein of 16 bit classics like The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Landstalker, and Soul Blazer. I can confidently say it's worth the purchase price, delivering many hours of breezy puzzle solving, challenging enemy combat, and an addictive resource gathering / crafting loop.
As a kid my favorite NES games were Crystalis, and of course Zelda. Hitting the PS1, I played the hell out of Alundra. But as for top down solid Action RPGs go, I have to give this game a high recommendation. There was so much content, it was amazing. I know it's a fantastic game when I don't want it to end. This was definitely one of them.
A pleasant hidden gem
This game is the wet dream of every millenial indie dev : an sophisticated zelda clone. Except that this time it is a well made success. The game is extremely polished and feels like an AAA console game from the 90s. At the same time it keeps a bit of amateurish vibe, especially in the art and portraits, which is very personal, but it gives the game a certain charm. The music is very good. The gameplay is very complex, maybe too complex sometimes, the amount of subsystems is impressive, but everything remains manageable if you take the time to read the tutorials. The game has a vertical factor which is kinda fun when you can find hidden areas by jumping over objects. Like what you should expect from a 2D zelda clone, there are dungeons spread in a large area to explore. I found the difficulty rather high (at "normal" difficulty, the second out of four). Although the initial story seems a bit simple, the lore develops very well and will satisfy those who are into narratives. The more I play this game and the more I find it interesting. It has its small problems, for example a lot of the combos (specially those that involve directional rotations) can be difficult to pull off. And the game would need a low level map, it has a general map, but you need to remember all the layout of the various rooms in every area and it can be overwhelming
(follow my curator page GenXPlayers for more retro and indie reviews)
well i started this game some days ago and have 8 hours and i am not someone that grinds for materials or items so its 8 hours of just exploring and story and i am according to the game only about 25% done so you will get your moneys worth if alone trough the story. the only thinks somewhat bugging me is the perspective that sometimes makes the platforming sections feel weird though that could be a me thing. the closest i would compare it too gameplay wise would actually be legend of zelda gameplay wise you have some dungeons the ones i had were all elemental themed for now and as you progress you unlock new artifacts that enable you to reach new areas and sections locked of before. oh and exploring is actually quite helpful, i found something that made the lava dungeon much more easy and the game didnt even hint at it. so if you play this game just explore around you might find something useful
This is a good game. Like others have said, I felt 50/50 whether this was a winner or not. Im happy with my purchase. If I were to mention negatives it would be - The in game map - Sometimes its difficult to tell what is higher or lower ground. When I was on the 2nd dungeon i started climbing up a wall and I had no idea I could even do that. Oh yeah that reminds me. Some things are not very well explained. - the difficulty. Id like to know if the only difference between difficulties is a numbers thing but personally its on the easier side and I had the diffulty jacked up. Idk, thats me personally. - There's 4 skill trees and at the point im at in the game (end of 2nd dungeon) you can only use one. Whats odd is the trees arent a mix of health, strength, dex, ect. Each one is specifically 1 trait. So your stuck with 1 skill tree. I have not played for 42 hours but im gonna say 20 of that is actual game time. I accidently left the game on a couple times. Meaning I really like it!
Loving this game. 100% recommend
this is really beyond oasis-like, rare as unicorn game. Please, consider checking it, if you like old zeldoids too. Update, i`m closing to 100% on hard, please don`t repeat my mistakes - select easy\normal for first run. Lategame bosses + optional challenges are REALLY hard, but puzzles and secrets are done really really well.
Excellent zelda-like/rpg. Bon gameplay, bonne histoire, bonne musique. Quantité de contenu énorme pour son prix. Solide 9/10.
