This is only a part of a game and not complete. Just as things were picking up and getting interesting you get hit with a, "To be Continued..." and the credits roll. I paid full price, almost $20 Canadian, and was sold a full game. It had great moments, wonderfully fitting music, and I can tell the passion put into it by the solo developer. The setting and story is interesting and unique, but if you were expecting a full game here, beware. My honest hope is the developer will put out an update and complete The Mine. If that happens, I would gladly change my review to positive and support this developer further.
Full review at: https://thegamehoard.com/2024/02/04/the-mine-pc/ The Mine would work as the start of a larger adventure game, its puzzles sound if simple and the alternate problem solving paths an interesting approach to designing progression, but unfortunately the game ends before it really had a chance to get going. Seeing “TO BE CONTINUED” almost right as a larger plot is starting sucks the energy out of an experience that already didn’t have much going for it. A moody introduction to the mine itself is a standout moment to be sure, but puttering around town doing small interactions isn’t compelling enough to make up the entirety of this small point and click adventure.
This is such an awesome point and click adventure game, set in 17th century Sweden, with a very strong western vibe. I enjoyed every minute of it. - First of all, the story writing is really solid. We're jumping into action right away and it lies a nice foundation for our character's backstory. There's a lot of information about the town and people we find out by interacting with NPCs, gathering collectible journal pages, and exploring the map. The townies are memorable, they have distinct personalities and they're interesting to talk with. - The atmosphere of the game is really immersive thanks to beautiful surroundings, mysterious places, and fantastic music. It's so impressive that the music in game is an original soundtrack made by the game's developer. It's a little masterpiece! - VOICE ACTING IS AMAZING! Each character is voiced, there are many dialogue options to choose from, and the game has some really good humor in it. I had a lot of good laughs. - The characters' portraits are SO FUN and I love the art style. - I love that the puzzles are a challenge, but they're logical. You won't be running around trying to click each item on everything, because the game doesn't leave you clueless about what to do. - The mysterious events/plot points in the game are SO interesting and I cannot wait to play the sequel to find out more about what's going to happen! - The only "con" is that I need a sequel now please! I want more!!! Great work.
This is an fun and enjoyable point and click game set in 17th-century Sweden. You start like an guy called "miner", waking up from an horrible nightmare. You find out that something is alittle odd, and trying to figure out what is going on, in this little town. This game get an big YES from me! Thanks for letting me test this gem of an game. KetMas
I am thankful to have gotten the opportunity to try this game for free, and definitely recommend it! Right out the gate the story captured my interest, the opening scene was well done and served to set the tone. A lot of hard work went into this and it shows! I really enjoyed the music, voice acting, and little trials. I'm also happy any time horses are added to a game, and they even got the anatomy correct(difficult to do on a good day) Also any game that is based on true facts or history always intrigue me, so this being a real town in Swedin is very cool! Throughout the game the visual perspectives changed to fit the story very well, distance was drawn with the camera and enhanced the movement in a fluid and enjoyable way. I also really appreciated the hand drawn portraits for the characters, instead of the usual 3D models or digital art, you can truly feel the labor of love. What I would consider "Mini games" were a unique take, between the owl and the blacksmith I was pleased with the variety of mechanics offered, making this more than a simple "Point and click" without losing any of the charm and character that I love. I can't wait for the next chapter, the lead up has my attention, and like any good story I want to know what happens next! If you enjoy folklore and an enjoyable point and click mystery adventure, absolutely give this a try and help support the next installment!
Pretty fun indie game, short and sweet experience. Liked the music, the voice acting, and sense of humor.
This is a really short game for the price I paid. Found it hard to navigate in the tunnels. I really now regret paying and playing this game.
I’m always very pleased when game developers manage to find some cool new setting to be used in their games. The Mine might not have the most original title, but the world the game takes place certainly is. You are part of a Swedish mining crew in the seventeenth century. The massive copper mine is your second home, but as point & click traditions require, there’s a whole lot of other stuff you can do besides working. The town of Elsborg has its fair share of eccentric characters you can interact with and puzzles to solve. Let’s start with a positive note. The soundtrack is great, as it fits the mood of the game spot-on. The music does compliment the historical setting quite well. The Mine almost feels like western. I’m also pretty impressed by the fact that there are several different solutions to puzzles, which does create variety and replay value, which is not that commonplace in adventure games. The overall design of the puzzles is also pretty good, although there are some exceptions. Sometimes the clues are a bit vague, and I couldn’t find one key element of one major puzzle without the help of the developers. The game is done in 3D, which does create a set of problems. The camera angles tend to change quite rapidly, and there are some issues regarding the pathfinding of the player character and NPCs. The camera angles in particular are annoying. They do tend to mess with your sense of direction. This becomes a big issue in the second part of the game, which takes place in the mine itself. Navigating in the tunnels is hard, as changing directions is needlessly difficult. The game would greatly benefit from gamepad or keyboard movement, especially in the tunnels. While the music of the game is great, the same can’t unfortunately be said of the rest of the audio. I’m really impressed that most of the game is voice-acted, which is no small feat for a small indie studio. This is completely a personal preference, but I did turn off voice overs pretty much immediately. I tend to do this in nearly every game I play, but there are some amateurish qualities to the voice acting, which was a bit off-putting for me. The 3D graphics get the job done, but they could’ve used an extra round of polish. Animations are a bit janky, and there are some graphical glitches here and there. I didn’t mind the visuals that much, but generally I think this could’ve worked better as a 2D game. I really have to complement the developers for putting in the effort of different solutions to puzzles. This does create replay value for the game, which it certainly needs, as the adventure itself is quite short. I could’ve easily played through twice or triple the content, as there are only a handful of puzzles to complete. If you are a point & click veteran, you can easily plow through the game in one hour. In terms of content, I don’t think there’s enough of it to justify the 13 euro price tag. Every finished game is a miracle, and I hope the developers will use the experience they gathered while making The Mine on their next one. Just add polish and content, but keep the setting, and you’re good to go!
The Mine has a great and intriguing story line that really draws you in. The characters are fully voice acted (and hilarious), and the game has some solid point and click mechanics! Check out my full review of the game here: https://youtu.be/Pv9D43Teu18
